In today’s video, I’m going to share with you how to build arm strength and throwing velocity using nothing but a band and 3 quick rotator cuff exercises.
Bands are one of my favorite training tools because they are safe for any player at any age and they’re super convenient. You can throw them in your baseball bag, they don’t take up a whole lot of space, and you can even use them at home.
What we’re working on with the bands is our braking system in our shoulder. The rotator cuff is what slows down your shoulder and protects it. There’s so many different exercises you can do with bands. But I want to show you a few of my favorites.
The first exercise is external rotation burnouts. This is my modified version of the regular external rotation. Start with your elbow tucked into your side. We’re going to do a complete rep of external rotation, then a half rep and stop at the top. We’re going to jump out to overload the muscle and slowly control the eccentric movement. That’s one rep. Do 10 reps before moving onto the next exercise.
The next exercise is elevated external rotation burnouts. You're going to need to adjust the height of the band to around your shoulder. Similar to the last exercise, you're going to do a complete rep, then a half rep, then stop at the top before jumping out and controlling the negative part of the movement.
The last exercise is reverse throws. Place the band at a low setting for this exercise. Act like you just finished a throw with your chest, chin, and nose over your front knee. Your arm should be near the ground as if you just completed a throw. From there, you're going to whip your arm in a reverse throwing motion. Again, pause at the top, jump out to put more stress on your rotator cuff, then control the movement back down.

Can you do this for side arm. I'm trying to add clubhead speed to my golf swing.
You are welcome and your the best

thank you so much for this video. Im not a pitcher just someone with shoulder issues . Really helped alot
I Remember this in high school dan Cortes drafted by Seattle but never made it far. But yeah he coached us a bit. I was in varsity with Vince Velasquez (now he plays for Philadelphia SP). I sucked lol 😂
Would these help even if I don’t play pitcher like 3rd base and catcher

Thanks man! Yes, they are great exercises!
Luis Avila how much did you arm velocity go up with these exercises?
It went up a good 10mph and my pitches were more effective so there is your answer.
Luis Avila how long did it take for 10 mph to jump?
3-4 weeks but thats cause i would spend at least 3 hours a day doing it and on spare time i would kick in as much time as i could so there.
Where can I get the bands? Or what are they called?
Where can u find these bands?
I’m looking to get back into baseball. It’s been a few years, and now that I’m playing again, my arm hurts every time I throw the ball. Would these exercises help me get back to being able to throw without pain?
I don’t pitch as much but when I do I throw hard for me not pitching much. But how do I throw harder as a catcher my pop time is quick with my feet but want to get stronger arms to gun people at second
How many days a week should I do this
How many times should I do this a week
Love your videos and i also have some more ideas like yesterday it was what should be in our bag today i have another one your highlights so you have a gopro on your helmet so we see how you play you are so awesome can you also shout me out next video please thankyou
Thanks for the feedback Brendan and I appreciate the support!
Where can I purchase that band?
for 12 year old should he do both arms just for muscle balance( if that’s a thing)?
What age group are you suggesting these strength exercises ?
Name of the equipment?
Could you make a video on how and when to dive/lay out for a ball in the outfield?
I'll try to make a video covering this soon. I think a lot of it is instincts. You have a pretty good sense of whether or not you can get to a ball. Never dive just to do it or to make it seem like you hustled - that's not smart baseball. Attack the baseball and let your reactions take over.
Ultimate Baseball Training
Thanks!
Ultimate Baseball Training indeed. I loved diving when I was young but it’s all in your instinct. You can try to practice by maybe someone hitting the ball or throwing it at certain distance that you may have to be challenged and maybe you practice on better instincts.
Tahnk you for another great video. Could you come coach a practice for our team????
That'd be awesome Mike. Unfortunately I'm probably not even in the same state as you.
I know we aren't in the same state.
What state are you in?
How long do you think of doing these stretches would take to see velocity gain?
1-3 months
Can you do a q&a
That's a good idea!
Where can I order some bands like this
They are called j bands and u can find them at like academy or dicks
Should these be done before, during, or after the season ??
Thanks Keith. I agree.
YES! All the above. Bands should be done multiple times per week and they are safe to do throughout the entire year.
Where do you get those bands?
There's lots of different companies that make them. The ones I'm using are J-Bands from Jaeger Sports. You can find them online or in some sporting goods stores
Where can I get the band at?
Jaeger Sports
Wish I would if subscribed 3 years ago
Whats the earliest age you recommend these drills for?
EPL HITZ how old are you?
Steven TheGoat it’s for my 7 year old.
I don't have a hard answer for an exact age, but I'd say maybe around 10-12 years old. At 7 years old I would just focus on having fun!
Make a video of fundamentals
That's what I try to teach in ALL of my videos!
Where do I get this resistance band?
jaeger
Where can I get that band?
Online they’re called J-Bands
if my arm is sore after just throwing a little bit, and I mean every time I throw, should I still do these exercises?
Start by doing them before you throw. They should really help build up more arm strength and stamina.
Alayna's Crazy Life I suggest you do external rotation exercises 24-48 hours after you throw, you don’t need any bands to do them you could use weights as well
Ultimate baseball huh
Sounds familiar
im just watching this for more speed in beat saber XD
What if you don’t have enough money to buy that
For things you truly want in life, you'll find a way to make them happen. Mow lawns, set up a lemonade stand, walk dogs around your neighborhood, etc. There's plenty of ways to make a few bucks
Buy a tennis ball tube, fill it with dirt and do external rotations with your elbow level with your shoulder, front raises, and lateral raises. You will get the same workout
