- In this video we review another legendary Springbank. The older Springbank 21 bottlings have a big part in creating the big fame that Springbank has today and for good reason as they were incredible whiskies.

Great review! Thank you very much for the additional time for this review. Got myself a bottle waiting from me in Germany. Very much looking forward to receiving and drinking it!
Thank you. Cant go wrong with that purchase my friend as they haven't spiked up in price as much as I would think. I can easily see them double in price soon. Let us know it is and always remember that each batch of these is different but they all seem to be great.
All things must change I guess...that's what marriage does...cheers guys. Miss your great reviews.
Hey Cato, we will be back soon. Just been so hard to get together for reviews since we live far away now. But we have lots of epic whiskies to review so stay tuned. Cheers bud.
Man you guys never fail to impress with the expressions you have collected over the years. Great stuff!!
Thank you bud. These old whiskies make it hard to buy current release bottlings for high prices.
Malt Reviews yup. Slim pickings these days. I went to “Whisky X” at a Santa Monica Airport hanger last Friday. What a blast. Early entry allowed for some nice sampling before the masses arrived, it was a zoo by 8 pm we were gone. Whisky is popular!!
Sounds like a good time. What were a couple of the highlight bottles?
Malt Reviews Highland Park did a special bottling for the event -very tasty. Compass Box had some nice offerings but I really liked the peat monster - I hadn’t had it before. And there were a couple of local Los Angeles distilleries that offered some interesting, albeit young, expressions. Most of the bourbon offerings were standard and uninteresting. In all my buddy and I each tasted about 20ish whiskies before we split.
Sounds like a fun day Cato. Im hesitant to go to whisky events these days as they are not what they used to be but I know there are a few good ones from time to time.
Congratulations on 1k subs, keep up the good work 👍
Thank you. Appreciate it.
had tried a sample of this baby, much much better than the current version. Fantastic
Def much better. Glad you tried it. Cheers
Cheers guys. A very cool review. Springbank are a great, and I mean really great, distillery. I'm alarmed that these days they are part of the whisky elite and so any reasonably interesting expression lasts 5 minutes before it's on the auction sites. I'm old enough to have bought great bottles but they weren't easily available back in the day. Unless you lived in Glasgow, Edinburgh or London you wouldn't even know these whiskys existed. My compliments amigos. WT
Thanks bud. I hear you, very hard to get the best springbank bottles. Def becoming very popular to say its peoples favorite distillery these days. Good thing its been our favorite for many years so we were able to get some gems. Cheers brother
Springbank is my favourite distillery too, after watching your last review of the 21 i had to get one and recently bought one at auction.
Very nice my friend. The dumpy ones are epic whisky. Dont find that kind of sherry anywhere and this tall one is obviously excellent as well. Cheers Kieran.
Cant say i have seen the dumpy bottles of auction before. This on is all sherry, a really dark colour, having a mix of bourbon and sherry would be nice to try also. Cheers.
IT'S TIME!
Sounds great gents, this one is on my hit list this Springbank festival ( See you there amigos :))
Awesome man. You will love it.
Might this be the 21with the Scalloped or Jagged labels , I can't tell.
What are your thoughts on some of the old Strathislas botteled by Gordon Macphail?
They are very good. Especially the 1950s and 1960s bottles. Some can be incredible quality. They are not cheap anymore though, unfortunately.
Hi Guys, so I'm a big Springbank fan and there's a couple websites selling this bottle for $1,900 (700ml) & $2,500 (750ml). I would love to try a Springbank that was distilled back in the 70's. Are these prices even reasonable for this bottle? 😅
I'm torn. Thank you for your input.
To think I hesitated the time they were still available for around 150 euros in France (ok say more than 10 years ago, probably around 2004/5...I was a very small collector & connoisseur at that time & it was quite some money..."regrets, regrets", lol...Can't really complain though as I had the chance to try many great stuff back in the days...They are in my memory bank, or virtual senses library if you like...funny when you know I'm working in a library, which is interesting when I read a tasting note saying "old library room" or something like that...A stunning bottling for sure...
I hear you my friend. But like you said 150 for whisky was a lot of money back then for whisky. There was really no way to know it would 10x like this.
So you def know that tasting note better than all of us. Cheers!
@@maltreviews Thanks !
Yum yum
Indeed brother. When you coming back to do reviews?
I'm not sure but your drams are motivational. Active with my group. We're close to 15,500 strong now. Come by and visit Scotch Addict :)
Thats awesome. I never go on facebook personally to be honest but I want to check it out.
Now it gives you a reason brother :)
Awesome review boys. Have you picked up any of the Longrow Reds? If either of you are willing to jump into a live on my channel Tuesday. We can talk Springbank and Longrow.
Thanks brother. Not recently but I might have a bottle or two at my whisky storage. Im usually not a fan of wine finished whiskies but cant remember if I have tried any of the Longrow ones. Which one is your fav?
I will def let you know by Monday latest if I can jump in. Il let you know either way.
How much would you pay for these on auction?
I wouldn't go higher than $600. The dark Dumpy ones I would go to $1000+.
How much is the bottle worth?
In the $800-$1,000 range
Cheers. Fantastic review. Do you know if there are many fakes with these tall 21s?
Thank you Johan. Of course there prob are some out there but not many as this bottle doesnt demand crazy prices like old macallans or even some other springbanks. If you get from a reputable auction house that helps too because they have experts who look at these bottles before they make it to the auction lot. There is batch variation as some are more sherried and others more on bourbon cask side.
Thanks. There are a few at this months SWA. I'm planning on bidding on one. Cheers.
I saw that. One is very dark, its drier in style and sherry driven obviously. The ones that are very light I havent tried.
April 2018: “AB InBev, has purchased Atom Group for an undisclosed sum.”
MOM is dead guys ☹️
cato I know. I am still really pissed about this as MoM was the main shop we would order regular bottles from. Going to miss the samples and special releases they would offer.
no more whisky reviews?(
Sorry we haven't released a video in a while. We are getting together some time next month to record more videos. So stay tuned.
Nice to hear!)
