    I like that. I’ve recently started using this popping style and though it goes against the majority thought and style of putting it is effective. I would add to always focus passing your putter head over a point slightly ahead on your chosen line. Focusing on the putter head passing over a spot on line provides a better consistency than focusing on trying to get the ball over the same spot.

    Thanks! This is the best ever putting lesson.
    I anchor my left leg.
    I aim then lay the putter slightly behind (not close) the ball, like Moe Norman.
    My putter leans like Phil Mickelson.
    I stroke my putter like Mr. Cohen's instruction.
    Very good result!
    Thanks again, Mr. Cohen!

    GREAT advice for those who take their golf seriously, his advice is there to help ALL fellow golfers out there, so no need to be sarcastic remarks! But he is so right in what he say's, but the key in keeping the face of the putter square is to following though towards the hole, don't stop the head of the putter once you have struck the ball! Follow through square! Say you have a six foot putt, you take the putter head back square a foot then follow through two feet square towards the hole, you will be amazed in the results I promise you, the measurements I have given you is just an example, find your own feel and distance, the minute you let the putter head turn on your back swing, the harder it is to square the putter head back, try it for yourselves before making some silly remark!

    I always look at short putting as a mini battering ram hit squarely and precisely on the ball to pop towards the hole

  • @Herlongian
    @Herlongian Před 8 dny

    For short putts, shorten the stroke to 1-3 inches backswing and 1-3 inches follow through keeping clubface square and exactly perpendicular to your stance. Address square, backswing square, contact square, follow through square. The short stroke makes it easier to keep square. So just pop in the 5 footer. If it misses and goes by 3 feet, pop that one in same method. This method is so reliable that even with an occasional miss, you know you have a high probability of making the next putt with same technique.

    Good video. The best putters in the past, for examples, Palmer, Player,Trevino, Watson et.al. gave the ball a hit or pop.
    Not sure if they were obsessed with a square club face, seemed more to do with accelerating thru the ball with a “bolder hit” so it held it’s line and they didn’t have to give much of the hole away.Nicklaus swore by taking a smaller backswing and a bigger follow thru to get the job done.

  • @FlyingSolo77
    @FlyingSolo77 Před 7 lety +7

    I use for lack of a better term, the pendulum method. My arms and club hang straight down and I let the club swing freely rocking my torso for power. Longer puts have longer arcs. It's all swing--gravity keeps the putter in line. The club face is set and then there is no timing. I have to get the line right, the amount to swing back, and be completely relaxed put for this to work. No real timing.

    NO putters are built straight up and down like a croquet mallet, they ALL have a lie angle, greater or lesser. The ONLY way in which a putter (or any golf club) could be swung "straight back and straight through", or remain "square to the line" for ANY appreciable distance, would be: A. if the putter is built like a croquet mallet, or B: with extensive manipulation by the hands and forearms during the convoluted stroke that would result (Note, this seems to be what Cowen is advocating in this video, I think?). Golf putters ALL have a "lie angle" which has the putter's shaft slanting up from the putterhead toward the golfer. This makes it necessary for the golfer to swing the putter, like any other golf club, AROUND himself. It is a circular motion! There are no straight lines in a circle! When you truly swing the putter (vs. manipulating it with hands and forearms) around yourself it's face WILL remain square to the center of the circle (you) and also square to the arc that it is swinging on, time and time again. If you set up with the putter aligned with your center (ie beneath your sternum) and the ball just ahead of the putterhead, you can roll the ball online all day long.

    Here’s my opinion on putting……. If you can take a practice stroke for speed, and then repeat that, then all you have to do is start the ball perfectly on your line. So, however you can do that is entirely up to you. People get too hung up on mechanics, and technique, when putting. I, personally get behind my ball, and read the putt. I point the line of the ball directly at my starting point. I then address the ball, until that line looks correct to my mind’s eye. This may be different for everyone. Some people may feel better slightly open, or eyes not directly over the ball, etc. I then take a few practice strokes imaging that I hit the ball for speed. I’ll then repeat that stroke. I then use the line on the ball to pick out a small specific spot about 3-5 inches in front of the ball. That’s it! Start your ball exactly on that line, and don’t stress about the outcome. You’ll be shocked at how many actually go in. It will change your game forever. Try it! P.S. This is similar to how Clair Hogle putts.

      @Bob-nu3xe Před rokem

      yes Jamie I like what you say, my approach is very similar, see it hit it! tip - don't second guess over the ball why? because once you have picked your line from around the green then address the ball your view changers stick with your original line.

I tucked my right elbow in, and sorta felt like I was pushing the ball onto my start line. I know this sounds crazy, but the result was 23 total putts(that’s 13 one-putts). I shot 7 under(65). I don’t care how ridiculous it looks, this is now my new putting method. lol

    What you don't understand is that by the rules of golf, the putter shaft must be offset to the blade. It is not allowed to be a croquet stroke. This means the stroke is on a tilted plane. In a proper stroke on a tilted plane the putter face stays stays square (unrotated) to the target, not to one's perception as it relates to the ground. And a putter face that stays UNROTATED and square relative to the TARGET at all times both arcs and opens and closes during the stroke. It that is not happening then the blade is being rotated relative to the target and will be totally inconsistent. Few people understand this except ALL of the touring pro's. Build yourself a wooden putter with a square shaft and ride that square shaft on a stair step edge (which is straight back and through). What you will observe is that what I say above is exactly true. You will see an arc and you will see the putter blade open and close even though it is riding on a straight edge and can't rotate. This is why ALL touring pros use some form of the Super Stroke grip. It helps to understand this. The people who own "The Putting Arc" actually sell a clip on device to help people understand this same thing. Very few people do. They just make CZcams videos which advocate something which generally is not true. A short "pop" stroke will help people who are lousy putters in the first place. But it is just a band aid that fails when you get older.

      @@tatchy1001 If you prefer to go by Pelz go ahead. A scratch golfer myself, the man only cost me 20 years of bad putting as he did millions of others. If you want to listen to people who do know how to putt, start with Crenshaw. Dave's theory is correct but holds no practical value. Using his techniques everything is important. Using Crenshaw's techniques almost nothing is important. That's because the club stays stable based on it's own momentum (inertial force). This is how literally all tour players putt today. A totally RELEASED putter. Even Tiger used basic Pelz ideas through about the year 2000 when he pitched them forever as he won at Bay Hill. He even stated just that in the post win TV interview.

    • @mesillahills
      @mesillahills Před 3 lety

      @@tatchy1001 That's exactly true, and it illustrates why all tour players eventually went to his technique. With a putter blade that is in it's own inertia, nothing much else is important. It's totally released. Nothing else counts. Crenshaw made everything with a lousy stroke. With the Pelz method everything is important. It does not work when one gets older. I changed and I will never go back. That bastard cause me years of lousy short putting after I hit 50. Just look at how fast they all hit the ball today on short putts. They are all "Brad Faxon's" and just rip it into the hole with a released putter in it's own momentum. But it does not work until you truly understand the stroke as told on "the Putting Arc" website. You have to work out shaft rotation. That is why Tiger is fanatical about his right hand only drill. I can make 100 in row that way from 6 feet too. Once you get the rotation out, releasing the putter works.
