The Salvage-o-Matics might NOT be the deal you think they are

  • 3 of the highest rated items in terms of convenience are the Copper-Fed, Runecrafter's, and Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matics. The Copper-fed will help you declutter your inventory and all 3 will make it so you'll never have to worry about buying a Salvage kit ever again.
    But if we look at them from a pure cost point of view, they might not be all that they're hyped up to be. So buyer beware!
    I personally have all 3 and am glad I do have them. But I often see people asking the question whether it's "worth" buying them. Each person's case will be different when it comes to convenience. But when it comes to cost...

    A small trick to save you money : don't salvage trinket (ring, amulet) obtained from green unidentified gear with the runecrafter. They don't have an upgrade amd won't yield anything. Use the copper-fed instead and save 27 copper for each

  • @Luke-mb4rw
    @Luke-mb4rw Před 7 měsíci +26

    Not explicitly mentioned in the video, but the "convenience" also includes saving bag space (who only carries one kit?) and not needing to go to a vendor to buy the kits every time you need more. Which is even more of a detour once you get any of the unlimited use logging/mining/harvesting tools. IMHO, the copper for blue and green items and the silver for the yellow and better items are must haves.
    The runecrafter one is much less necessary, get it once you have more gold than things to spend it on.
    The copper and silver ones were the first 2 items I added to my shared inventory slots and haven't left since then.
    I'd recommend anyone to at the very least get one, copper or silver. It's a no brainer. Bag space is quite valuable.

    I've had the copper and silver fed feeders since they came out. I thought for sure I would have at least reached the minimum salvages to pay for the feeders BUT I've only 729 salvages under Agent of Entropy, lol. I have gone back and forth with salvaging and selling due to what other's have told me was the "right thing to do". I'm not blaming them I'm just stating that I'm wishy-washy when it comes to this stuff so it's nice to have you make a video about it all. Either way, I too purchased mine for convenience. Good thing too or I might feel like I got scammed ;p

      I personally bought mine for convenience as well, so I'm not too fussed about ever reaching a breakeven point. But the amount of salvaged required is indeed an enormous amount, I doubt many players will reach.

    I'm using only Copper-Fed for blue/green items and silver-fed on rares.
    I bought Runecrafter just for relize, it was waste of gems. 🤣
    Biggest reason why I'm not using Runecrafter for green items is, you are paying 30 coppers per use, but in 99,9% of cases you get only one or two Lucent motes _(one cost 8 coppers)_ as the "bonus" and in-game they are consider as "garbage".
    About value of tools - their main purpose in-game is as the quality of life change, not profit.
    Its same case as indestructible gathering tools, bag slots etc.
    Personally, I'm so glad to have them _(bought for money)_ , if you put them into shared slots, you save for yourself huge amount of time and sanity, when you are playing mutliple characters and you are salvaging hundreds or thousends of items.

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Fully agree! I felt it was important to include the profit/cost value point of view as well though, as I've been seeing a lot of questions about that particular aspect as well. But it's hard to put a price on Quality of Life!

  • @kropovs
    @kropovs Před 7 měsíci +7

    I think it would have been an interesting point to compare Runecrafters + Copper vs only Copper. To my understanding salvaging green gear on copper vs rune loses about 70 copper per item. And doing some quick math it starts paying back after ~30k green gear. For newer players there might be better things to invest the same 500 gems into some other convenience items like gathering tools, bank slots etc. first.

    Always good to have a piece like this come around to make you take a look at your habits.
    I use a Copper-fed on Blues, a Runecrafters on Greens, Mystic Salvage Kits on Yellows and Black Lion on Exotics. This came about when I was trying my hardest to accumulate Runes and Symbols and I never stopped even when I realised what a fools errand it was to try to stock up on such by salvaging. When the prices for Greens is high then I do tend to sell them on the TP if I have a lot in my bags ... because I can't be bothered with the whole salvaging process with limited bag space :lazy:

      @phandrel  Před 7 měsíci +5

      Thanks! I do try to contemplate on my (past) purchases every now and then and figured I might as well start sharing them.
      I believe your process is the most on point when you take bag space into consideration, if all salvage kits were 250 slots, I think I'd have to make a vastly different video.

    I'm at 2,332 for agent of entropy. I've had copper and rune crafter for the longest since i don't mind processing my gear. I have been using the mystic salvage kits this whole time but with the changes to log in rewards the stones became more unreliable to get so I ended up buying the silverfed just recently

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před 7 měsíci +5

      Yeah, I think long term the Mystic Salvage Kit will get harder and harder to craft, unless they introduce the stones one way or another again.

  • @Somebody374-bv8cd
    @Somebody374-bv8cd Před 7 měsíci +4

    I've known that the min max way to salvage greens is to open them, then ONE BY ONE put them into the endless upgrade extractor to remove the upgrades and use the copper fed/basic kit to salvage the upgrade, but there's no fuckin way I'm going to do that tedious micromanagement. Runecrafter is fine by me.
    My agent of entropy completion is 2020. However I did quit this game numerous times (longest was from sometime around dragonfall release till somewhere after the EoD launch trailer - I missed the entirety of IBS)

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I tried for a while, but it is indeed soulcrushing to process greens optimally. I'm cool with using a Runecrafter and being less optimal.

    Pretty sure you misread the fast.farming research at the end there.. You compared profit from salvaging with the various kits and selling results on TP, against the "Current Price on TP". But the "Current Price on TP" does not factor in the 15% listing fee. You should have compared against "Sell on TP (15% taxes)". With that in mind you will make more per gear to identify and salvage vs selling unid.

    Exactly 4:43 I mostly got the permanent salvage tools for QoL. I hated the amount of inventory space I was wasting on stacks of the vendor purchased ones which held back my salvage work. I had 30 stacks of various unidentified gear and could not even imagine trying to work through that with the vendor purchased ones. I saw someone say to just sell the unidentified gear without identifying it but I've always thought that was a loss of gold.
    The problem with using the agent of entropy achieve is it now also counts the times you used a research kit. I wish they would have made a new one just for researching.

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před 7 měsíci +1

      For me, personally, the QoL trumps everything, and I'll always subscribe to that notion. But I do understand others not valuing it the same as I do and finding these expensive.
      In certain cases, it could be better to sell unids, but it's heavily player dependent. I am a big fan of identifying and salvaging myself because it doesn't involve the TP, and thus no TP taxes.

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I love mine for convenience, but I would argue that silver-fed is a lower priority than runecrafter's or copper-fed.
      Runecrafter's is unique in that it has no other equivalent. Copper-fed purely has convenience due to how many blue unids you tend to accumulate.
      The reason I would put silver-fed behind those is because of the Mystic Salvage Kits, which do the same and have 250 charges.
      But if you run out of mystic stones or never want to worry about having a kit around, silver-fed is still one of the better QoL tools this game has on offer.
