Don't think I have ever had greengages. I don't like jam; but strangely I do like Marmalade. I think the dislike of jam stems from school dinners - way back in primary school. The dinners were excellent but I did not like any desserts (or 'afters' as we called them at the time) that had jam - in particular a huge blob of the stuff in the middle of our rice pudding. Great book you picked up - I read a lot of war books, it's one of my favourite genres. Treo passed in 2015. There are some lovely CZcamss of him prior his death - and your book is on one of them !! A lovely bronze statue of Treo stands in the community gardens near where he lived after his retirement. I just know dogs go to heaven - bless him.

@@Kay-ph1kb Aaw that’s sad that Treo passed in 2015 . I am going to find the videos about him and watch . I just know my husband will love the book ! I never tried a greengage until about 10 years ago when we stopped at a farm shop on our way back from Hastings ! Apparently greengage trees used to be plentiful in Kent but a lot of them were chopped down , I suppose because they only last for a couple of weeks . We thought about trying to plant one in our old garden , but apparently they need to be near a Victorian plum tree , so that meant two trees in quite a small garden . Our garden here is even smaller ! As for school dinners, I hated them until secondary school , they were much nicer ! I remember rice pudding with jam , utterly vile ! X

@@rusticramble yes I was sad - dogs don't live long enough. But I think he enjoyed his life - he was certainly very popular as many people in the community where he lived gave their time and money for the statue - which is absolutely beautiful - Amy Goodman, the sculptor, really captured he essence of him and a great likeness - there is an article on it. I am so glad you found that book !

@@Kay-ph1kb I am tempted to read it now ! Dogs are amazing aren’t they and it’s very sad that their lives are so short !

@@rusticramble true, so true. Having my first morning cuppa and looking out over my own garden - it is a quarter acre block so takes a lot of upkeep, but I enjoy gardening immensely. Couldn't grow greengages though - too hot in my area. Never even seen them in the shops.

Hilarious that you worry more about Pete than your children !
When you take Wilson out for a walk, you should hang a sign round your neck.
    'Sorry,can't stop to chat !'
Will have to give greengage jam a go,if I see some.
