Chiefy Born 1924 Chapter 4 The Final Chapter
Hi Rach long time hun. Sorry I haven’t been around. Beef dripping, I remember them days my mum used it quite a lot. I never ate it was never keen. Hope you are doing well. Xxx
Pork dripping is the soft one.. I have sum in the fridge.... You are not a fan because it's pork dripping folk eat on bread.. as i do x
Aaw that’s where I went wrong ! Love pork crackling ! Mine never seems to be successful X
@@rusticramble it's still freely available.. local butcher's or Heron.. if u have one near by.. x
Beef dripping makes great fried bread.. or fish n chips x
@@rusticramble or roast tats x
@@JonnieGS1200 Lovely , absolutely love fried bread !
My mum always saved the fat from roast meat in a pudding basin, and she would use it to baste the next roast. I always thought the dripping was the bit right at the bottom of the bowl though, where the meat juices would settle. I never knew anyone eat just the fat.
We just used the white bit ! My Mum had hers in a pudding basin too , occurred to me I don’t even own one ! I have frozen the dripping which apparently you can cook from frozen for next time I roast the spuds ! Yes my sister reminded me how we used to eat it with marmite and lots of pepper x
I couldn't tell you the last time I had bread and dripping. Around 45 years ago probably. It was a favourite in our house and was indeed kept in a pudding basin. I think we used to take it out of the fridge to sit for a while prior to spreading it, so it wasn't so hard. We always put salt and pepper on it but never marmite. I think the eating of animal fats has become taboo these days - despite it didn't seem to do us much harm back in the day - when nothing was wasted. I also well recall my mother buying suet at the butchers - to make dumplings for our beef stew. Not only did they taste great but they made the meat go further. Thanks for uploading this one and evoking lovely memories from the past - of bread, dripping and dumplings. There's no place like home ♥.... ps my brother loved sugar sandwiches 😃
Hi Kay , I used to love suet puddings ! Wonder if you can still get the goblin meat puddings? Going to have a look out for
@@rusticramble yes, we loved those - pudding in a tin. Alas, I certainly could not find them when I last visited.
@@Kay-ph1kb Aaw what a shame ,can’t beat a suet pudding !
Very well done on the record and for raising the money. I am full of admiration as I have never been good at any type of sport involving connecting a bat with a ball - the eye/hand/ball coordination is not one of my gifts !!
Am the same Kay , definitely not a sporty person , my boys take after their Dad X
@@rusticramble 😀
Doing the rally in the pub sounds like a hoot ! I think just the thought that I couldn't stop for a wee or a poop would immediately make me want to go. Sorry for your loss of your granddaughter ♥
Aaw thank you Kay ! I wouldn’t last an hour without a wee ! Yes when they did the record the first time my nephew was handing them Jaffa cakes ! That was 10 years ago , mad how the time flies !
@@rusticramble 🙂 they were eating Jaffa cakes whilst simultaneously playing - how cool is that !
Wooo new world record 🙌🏓
Whoop whoop !
😂😂😂
Well done them
Thanks Funky 🙏
is chairman dan's dad?
Yes he is 😊
Amazing achievement. Hope you've all had an awesome day. 😊❤❤❤😊
Thank you so much 🙏
Poor man’s soup 😂😂😂
My son was a very poor sleeper and also a light sleeper as a young baby. That changed as the years rolled round. Your wardrobe looks a bit like mine - it was heartening to see I am not the only one that needs a clear out and tidy up ! Never iron these days 😃. The Guinness Book of Records used to be a popular annual present under the Christmas tree for some. Including one relative who at family gatherings used it to test us kids on what we knew about records. For some reason he thought that was an indication of how we were going at school. I expect it has gone digital now.
I intend to tackle the wardrobe today ! I remember buying that book for one of my sons , think he had asked for it on his wish list , don’t think he ever even looked at it ! I struggle to sleep , always have , but once I am asleep I am out of it completely!
@@rusticramble 😊
I was so relieved the pickled cabbage and tinned fruit didn't make it in. Once that welcome news emerged I was able to un-wince my eyes. I noted the cup of tea (maybe coffee) served alongside - as per previous video 😃.
Haha imagine tinned fruit in a soup ! There was leftovers so he had that the following day as I was out ❤️
@@rusticramble 🙂
When I still lived with my parents and younger brother - many years' ago, we always had tea with our tea. And tea with our dinner because we had our dinner around midday or between midday and 1pm. And we had our tea around 6pm. And every kid's mother yelled down the street 'come in fer yer tea'. I don't remember when dinner became lunch and tea became dinner. I think Friday's cuppa tea with tea always went down the best because it was fish and chip night - which somehow has a particular affinity with tea, in my opinion. We never had coffee in our house.
We called the evening meal tea as well ! I think we had our main meal lunchtime too and then my Dad had his heated up when he got in from work ! I don’t drink tea but my husband has to have tea with his fish and chips X
@@rusticramble How similar family life was in those halcyon days - I had forgotten about the heating up of dinner for dad's tea on those occasions when he was on a 'shift'. No microwave - it went into the oven between two plates !
@@Kay-ph1kb It did Kay ! And I still remember my Dad’s shifts ! 6-2 , 2-10 and 11-7 and remember what a worry it was when he was on a 3 day week ! Funny how some things stick with you !
@@rusticramble absolutely they stick. And that's why I loved this posting you made on your channel - it triggered so many happy memories - and all because of poor man's soup and tea ! Thank you.
Just catching up here. I like soup but I don't like too much of a mixture so don't know how my stomach might go with this 'chuck it all in' approach. I certainly could not put pickled onions in - even though I like them. I don't doubt it might taste alright but my mind could not cope 😃. Perhaps I am not quite poor enough - but getting there given prices keep escalating.
Hi Rach malted milk biscuits are ok if you dunk them in your tea or coffee, ❤❤
My grandaughter likes them which is great because she’s poorly so only eating very bland things like plain crumpets and toast x
😂😂😂
Looks like a rip roaring success. Millionaires Soup - it's a keeper. Fruit cocktail and evaporated milk for Pete's dessert tonight ?!
Yep it’s going be Millionaires Soup every Tuesday from now on ! Eew evaporated milk ! Wonder what that’s like in a soup !
Hi Rach thank you for sharing this. Now I know what to do with my left over veg! 😅 looks nice! 😊 xx
It really was Dezzie ! Used two pints of chicken stock and there’s enough for Pete to have tonight as well . I am not in tonight so he’s fending for himself X
Are you sure - fruit in the soup ? There's a reason it's not sold in the Supermarkets ! Make sure you taste it,before anyone else ! Good luck with it.
An apple and a plum ! Perhaps an out of date tin of fruit cocktail ! I have definitely added a plum to something before but I can’t for the life of me think what ! But fear not , if it’s horrible we have what we like to call Dead Man’s Soup in reserve !
Hi Rach, Love those iced buns even better with jam,l will have to look out for them. I used to buy the white ones. When you go out your back garden you can wave to me 😅.The vicar of your church was murdered St.Mary the Virgin it was,12 years ago but made big news as the bloke had already murdered a pensioner.John Suddards was the vicar.I will be watching the poor man's soup sounds good,Have a lovely week X
Thanks Sheila , yes I know we had a real life murder at the vicarage ! The killer died last year ! There was a programme about it , I think it was on Britains Most Evil Killers or one of those programmes! The church is absolutely beautiful, hard to believe that such a dreadful crime happened there x
Hi Rach ❤ I don’t think you’re weird at all. We eat around 6 pm. I don’t like eating too late myself unless it’s a weekend 😅 what’s poor man’s soup? Is that for someone that’s on a budget? Looking well hun. Great to see you and hope everything is ok with you. Xxx
Hi Dezzie , poor man’s soup is soup with leftovers , I am going to have a go at making it tomorrow! It’s basically vegetable stew …but with a twist ! Alls good in the hood thanks Dezzie , hope you are well and your son had a lovely birthday X
Lol no thanks. ❤
Haha ❤
Just get some grass in, sorted x
Also thinking about boiling socks in it !
@@rusticramble will add a nice bit of seasoning that 🤣
Your Waffley videos are my favourites. I hope that soup tastes better than it looks ! I'd suggest adding some red lentils to thicken it up. Looking forward to your Nigella video, not just a pic !!
Thanks Susan , I can’t wait to do it ! I feel like bringing shopping day forward ! X
Don't ask Pete to rate it.We all remember 7/10 Sunday lunch !!!! (still makes me laugh)😂
@@susanhogarth5507 He was in the dog house for weeks because of that !

Lol my dog either loves or hates our cat 😅 cat will only stand so much before she gives the dog smack round her face 😊 He's a lovely dog I bet he's strong though ❤
Very strong 💪! Hes ok as long as a cat is still , but as soon as it moves he goes crazy ! 🤪
Aww bless Wilson! Love him! ❤ xx
Hes such a cutie ❤
@@rusticramble His adorable! 🥰
I visited chatty June - she is indeed a hoot. And she freezes celery - I wonder why I have got this far in life without ever freezing celery. I am going to try it - Chatty says it is good in stews and such. Children grow up so fast. I used to do a lot of entertaining; not so much now. Did you ever have a hostess trolley I wonder; so popular in the 80s. So naff it now seems. I have still got mine ! A Phillips - in rosewood ! I only have to look at it and I laugh - memories of Victoria Wood (RIP) and her song - 'bend me over backwards on me hostess trolley'. Rude I know, but funny all the same. And Sindy had one - so it must have been the height of chic once.
I remember the hosting trolleys ! I am glad you watched Chatty . Victoria Wood was a genius , I loved her in Acorn Antiques . Good ol’ Sindy ❤️
@@rusticramble yep, VW was indeed a genius - and gone far too soon, a reminder to make the most of every day. Sindy and Tiny Tears - memories. Thanks for your reply - have a good day.
@@Kay-ph1kb I had a Tiny Tears ! Do you remember the tiny tears song , I suppose it must have been a jingle from the commercial! I was thinking about Victoria Wood the other day . Rewatched Billy Elliot and of course Julie Walter’s was in it and she worked a lot with Victoria ❤️
@@rusticramble yes, I well remember the song in the Tiny Tears commercial - and your other memories. On reflection it was a time that seems, to me anyway, much simpler. Perhaps nostalgia distorts my memory - but I'll take it nonetheless. Best regards from afar.
Lovely boy. My beloved little furbag was the same if he saw a cat in the garden - much smaller than Wilson, his hearty bark would lift him off all four paws at once 😃. That said, my son's two large cats certainly put him in his place when they came to be minded during holidays.
I would love to get a cat as well but I think Wilson would make his life a misery ❤
@@rusticrambleAgree, Wilson is a little too interested in chasing them I expect. The same reason I resisted the temptation - prior my dog I had always had cats. Looking after my son's two on occasion was a challenge - but given their large breed they had the upper paw - and would come at him in a pincer movement if he stepped out of line 😃.
@@Kay-ph1kb Good for them ! 😊 x
Lovely Rachel - thank you. Made me cry again for my beautiful boy who left 2 years ago - sadly missed every day. Reminded me that I am not alone in my grief. I know he will come to get me when it is my time - I have read that many people see their beloved pets just prior to passing. And their loved ones. This has indeed occurred with my elderly relatives who passed. My mum said her father was there. My aunt had her sisters with her. I wonder what others think. Blessings on all those who grieve. On a happier note - sun is shining and birds chirping in my garden - A reminder to live in the day - our time on earth is a short one.
Aaw lovely Kay ! Enjoy the sunshine ☀️ X
Thanks Rachel, That was a sad but beautiful letter!! Two years ago I lost my Golden Retriever and my Corgi 4 months apart. They were both old and had had good lives but it doesn't make it any easier. Now have a year and a half old Corgi who is full of it!!! Still think of the other 2 often. We just have to enjoy the moment with our beloved pals!!! Mary
Hi Mary, they really are our best friends aren’t they ! My dog definitely feels my heart with joy and makes me smile every day ❤X
How difficult that must have been, losing them both, I was sad to read that. But I am gladdened to hear you have 4 legged company again, and fond memories still of the two departed. Agree with your comment to enjoy the moment. And, like you, I focus on how happy my little boy was - he certainly made the most of every minute - whether he was walking, playing, sleeping or eating. His joy for life was infectious. Best wishes.
It’s working now! Not sure what happened there! Sorry about that hun. Xxx

Late to this one, as I often am - but never to late to see that lovely doggie's face❤.
He is adorable isn’t he ! X
Lovely to see Wilson so happy with his ball - beautiful boy. I recently had the 2 year anniversary of losing my beloved little dog. Still find it difficult to walk the favourite places we used to walk together. Need to toughen up I suppose - I was so blessed to have the happy days of his company over many years. Looks like you live in a beautiful area of England, with open spaces to enjoy.
Aaw bless you Kay . We moved here three years ago and I still have to pinch myself at how beautiful the countryside is and how lucky I am ! Always been a country girl at heart ❤️ x
I love a bargain, but prefer Facebook Marketplace these days; although have a few favourite sellers on eBay. Good news re that little rascal Wilson. Made my heart happy. The small artwork of the London bus caught my eye as I love anything like that, hope it's not rude to be looking around. Is it a particular artist you collect? Sorry I can't offer any advice re the AI - I am hopeless with anything like that; can only use the basics on my own iPhone !!! Sending good wishes across the miles.
Hi Kay , oh thank you so much . I bought the picture from a charity shop last year .I have been meaning to get it out of the frame to see if I can find anything more about it ! I will have a look and let you know x
@@rusticramble thank you for reply - what a find ! I also like fossicking around charity shops. I am always taken with whimsical style (for want of a better description) artwork. Indeed, I am having a go at some myself ..... got a lot to learn 🙂
@@Kay-ph1kb I would love to be able to draw and paint ! Love rummaging around charity shops , you never know what you will find ! I bought that picture when I was feeling a bit home sick so it arrived at the perfect time and I just love it X
@@rusticramble you should have a go - I am not very good but having not long retired am trying out all the things I never had the time for previously. Homesick is just one of the reasons why the London bus caught my eye.
Hi Rach, l think a lot of stuff on ebay people buy and sell for higher prices.l wanted to order a bleach for my hair someone was charging 24 pounds it usually cost 8 !!! .Couldnt believe it l messaged him and asked what his game was he replied thats the usual price.Anyway E bay made him reduce his price. That was awful about Geoff Kitchen from Thornbury he was the passenger who died when they had turbulence on way to Singapore it was going to be a dream holiday.Thunder on way here its gone really dark.! Spoke to soon its just started.Hope you are ok.xx
Hi Sheila , the days of getting a bargain on eBay are long gone . It’s good though for finding things you can’t get in the shops though . Have just watched the news , that poor guy and his poor wife Xxx

Hi Rachel. I'm glad it's sorted . Looking lovely as ever, sis xx

Thanks Susan , totally agree X
Hi Rach, so pleased you have got things sorted, you seem much happier today.A shorter lead does help, you seemed so worried in the last video.Alls well that ends well.Love tbe colour of your hair it really suits you ,mine needs doing my hair was jet black earlier days, but have had it blonde for years covers the Grey.No sun here today very overcast.Enjoy the rest of the day.xx
Aaw thanks Sheila , much much happier today ! My hair gets lighter as it grows out , hairdressers next week but I need to keep an eye on her next time , she took too much off my fringe last time . It’s the same here , overcast and still a bit chilly , in fact back to two quilts on the bed X
Giving up on such a young dog is unfair to him. Dogs need exercise they need to go on walks a garden is not enough. I had a dog I rescued at 7yrs old he'd been roaming and feeding himself I guess on squirrels judging by his reaction to them. On my first walk with him he lunged the lead caught on my knuckle and broke it. It took 18 months of patience and persistent positive reward based training to get him to ignore squirrels, ducks and cats whether he was on lead or off lead. It can be done.
Yes I know ! Since making the video I have now braved the walk with two leads and a harness and also avoided the road where we see the most cats !
Love bananas, don't like banana sandwiches, hate jam of any kind. No way I could eat a jam sandwich. However, I love banana spread (must be spread) on toast with a sprinkling of salt.
Banana and salt , that’s controversial! Tempted to try that !
@@rusticramble give it a go for brekkie - Aussie favourite 🦘🦘🦘
I had to have my beloved Maltese x Poodle put to sleep a couple of years ago - very elderly and had an untreatable cancer. Don't think I have fully recovered even now, I miss him so much. When we were out walking in the forest near my house we used to see a lovely chocolate Labrador dragging his owner for a walk. Exactly what you said - dragging him through hedges forwards and completely unmanageable. Owner a middle aged, strong looking man so dog did not actually break free but it was a fight to control him. They went to dog training classes and it really helped. Last time I saw them he had really calmed down, like a different dog.
Aaw Kay, so sorry to hear about your dog. Thanks for your words of encouragement, I took Wilson out today , used two leads and avoided roads where I knew we had seen cats before and when I spotted a cat in the distance I reversed and walked a different route X
@@rusticramble Thank you, me and my Maltipoo were inseparable since the day I got him from a Rescue. Anyway, sounds like you've got a strategy. Must put you on edge though 🐶❤
@@Kay-ph1kb Aaw your little Malipoo sounds adorable! Yes am on high alert now when out but glad we did it ! Trying a new lead tomorrow but going to take the second lead as back up from now on anyway X
@@rusticramble Thank you. Yes, he was adorable in every way - not to say he didn't have his mischievous side. When the going gets tough Team Wilson will win ! And I fully expect to see him taking First Place for obedience at Crufts next year. (Or at least at the local Town Show !).
Oh, poor Wilson, I love him❤ Poor little soul looking out of the window. Hopefully, you will find a good local trainer for you both. Good Luck😊
