- There's nothing more embarrassing than taking your parents to a have a massage on their first visit to China, only to have the massage girl try and propose a "happy ending" to your dad! How does one avoid these sorts of situations? What does a legitimate massage place look like? It may sound strange, but finding a place where you can get a good clean massage here in Shenzhen is actually fairly difficult, so in order to avoid any embarrassing situations, how do you tell a legit massage parlour from a dodgy one? Well you could simply go out and try them via trial and error or you could watch this video :)

While living in China, my wife and I had a same room couple massage in Shanghai. We were both offered a happy ending (100 RMB extra each) even though we were right next to each other. It was embarrassing and we said no. However, the masseuses were very casual about it like it was no big deal. Just part of doing their job and maybe making a little extra cash.

the dodgy small massage place get raided every once in a while because they don't make enough money to bribe the police. I don't think that's a situation you'd want to be in as a foreigner. especially since they might revoke your visa if they catch you.

Hi Winston! That is an ultrasound machine to check your 'inside' for e.g. pregnant women ;). You can also use ultrasound for skin treatment (tightening). One of the companies providing that technology claims that it will 'enhance' the production of collagen and elastin.

Hi Winston, I was in Shanghai about 5 years ago and a legitimate one hour massage in a comparatively nice place, cost me about 8 usd.
Is the average price now really 28 usd for one hour? Or is this for especially posh places?
But if yes, is China in first tier cities now roughly three times more costly for most things in usd than it was five years ago?

Winston I would say the first machine you showed was a Electric Muscle Stimulator if it is truly that then they use it to stimulate different muscle groups without over working the masseuse using waves of electrical energy ... The second machine I am not sure honestly ( could cheat and look up on the internet )but could be a infrared inducer used to heat up local spots relieving muscle aches .. I am glad to see you are taking care of yourself . As a motorcyclist I pretty much know you been in quite the few scrapes which reeks body and muscle strains and sprains . I found a place in Shenzhen many years ago where there were many beds all next to each other. The masseuse assigned to me was a blind man, and I had not often felt such pain as he was kneading my muscles but after it was all over my body was incredibly relaxed...

I like it hard for my shoulders, less so for my back, and farily light on my legs/arms. I used to have a really good masseuse he would work my shoulders about half the massage because they are always so tight. Unfortunately, she moved away, and when the place started offering happy endings, I stopped going.

Hi, Winston Fyi, about 15 years ago, my sister brought me to an old grandma traditional massage(home style) for my right leg(muscle pain). waited for a long queue. whats most unforgettable is that grandma age over 70 but her finger are so so strong. After asking my sister, i learned out that she use strength from darkside(similar to voodoo in africa) to power her hand to help/healed patient in need(with a small fees) and she isn't the only massage grandma around my area here. but this grandma is the most coveted one in southern part of Malaysia(very near Singapore).

not sure what this service is call but its definitely works for my muscle pain... see those long queues and even pregnant woman also went there too..... in my country these grandma known as "bomoh" (has their own status in their own community and belief).... they are male bomoh too... i only went to see 2 female bomoh before, 2 different ones too... incredible hands.....

While living in Portland, Oregon; I had a tough day at work, i felt drained and dead due to stress, and to make things worse the traffic was just awful. I saw a "Chinese Foot Massage" sign, next to the place i was going to eat. I went in after the hour of the most amazing massage, i felt like the massage did more healing than a doctor and his pills. I started going once every 2 weeks. Felt whole and healed, the foot massage masters are amazing. It was more than just a foot massage, it was Sinus Passages, neck, arms, chest, hips, feet , flip over and go back to the head. They had as much skill and knowledge as many Physical Therapists, and chiropractors, and cost only 20-25 USD for an hour of work! WOW. But now that i live in Alabama, i can only find the "FAKE" hand brothels,in Georgia, or One way too overpriced place 70 mi

Very interesting... I go to a "Physiotherapist", here in Canada... A Chinese clinic. After an incredible massage I have "Cupping" done. Apparently, cupping suck toxins out of one's body... For the first few treatments one's skin looks like they've been attacked by a huge Octopus... Like "Hickeys", but after a few treatments, they don't appear anymore... Great stuff :-)
Another treatment is using Electronic muscle stimulation... A bit like Acupuncture but with an electric pulse, which causes the muscles to spasm... I am given a sort of volume control and I alway turn it up to the highest setting... It's awesome! I could go on, but I'll shut up now :-) Great video :-)

When I was leaving early or arriving late, Instead of staying at a hotel, I've slept at a massage parlor for a few hours instead.
Went to a place EXACTLY like this last week in Kunming (which is a tier 3 city in the south). They don't take men but my girlfriend asked and as she has been a member for a very long time they allowed me in. It's not enjoyable. But it's good for one's back.

There is in australia, but the Thai massage places most of them are just trained by one person who did the diploma course, no disrespect in any way, thats how i learned too, but my clients testimonies from thai places are always polarized.

When I was with my Wife in Sichuan, her mom had a similar "card" membership at a local massage parlor(?). They actually hired people with "disabilities." One guy was albino and the other guy was blind. It was interesting to see an albino Chinese person. Regardless, they both did a really good job. I had a pretty awesome experience. It had the hard massage that you were talking about Winston. But, you really feel great a few hours after the massage.
