I did the same thing Pedro. Tried to sell Kirby on the appointments that were set offering a free carpet cleaning. Demonstrated the machine, zero sales and cleaned people's carpet with it for free. I lasted about a week also. This was at least 30 years ago. 😅
My ex husband sold one Kirby vacuum cleaner as far out as Scotland prior to us moving to America. He told me he received a check from the client for first payment. He asked me what he should do. I told him he needed to return the check. That was 32 years ago. He never looked back. I know he did the right thing.
I remember Kirby coming to my house. My grandma bought one. I didn’t have the money. Thank you for sharing your story. I am grateful my grandma and her twin told me to work for state and local government. It hasn’t been easy but I earned my pension and will be retire from that career in 3 years. I DoorDash with my hubby and son on side. Keep your dream alive. My worst job was telemarketing and trying to sign up people for magazine subscriptions. It was terrible I felt stressed and only signed up 3 after 8 hours scouring phone books. It wasn’t for me at all.
Thank you my friend you really spoke to me on this one Thank you so much 🙏❤️i just recently picked uo something i feel a little down about but it was the only place that hired me and the good point is im blessed because im not homeless anymore
I did Kirby for 2 months. I hated going into peoples homes for a "free room cleaning" session. Never sold 1. Kirby paper advertisements like to not tell you that your selling vacuums when they are trying to hire you. They just put out ads for "you to make lots of money" .
Never did that type of work. I have mostly done retail and call Center work, but I also did do some factory work, work at a computer shop, worked with my dad in his heating and cooling business, and did some restaurant work. Not doing the gig stuff full-time, I really appreciate the flexibility of it.
My daughter Ruby I told you about yesterday was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 9. She’s 15 this July 20th. On top of her 22q chromosome deletion and heart defects, type 1 diabetes is devastating brother. I know that hell.
I went to one of those types of job sign ups but it was selling knives door to door lol. I was like when is this going to be over and when I walked out of there I was like nope!!! lol.
I had a job once going door to door trying to sell people water softeners for a company called ecowater and it was absolutely miserable. I only did that one for a few months before I found something else.
I remember a lady demoing it to myself and my parents when I was a kid. They did the cushion demo where they put a couch cushion in a plastic bag and have the vacuum stuck out the air. My parents didn't buy lol
Worst job ever: 4 months while trying to learn to car sales at a dealership. Was promised to be trained by one of the sales managers. Nope. Sink or swim environment on my own. Broken promises and then made fun of in front of the entire sales team in a meeting. Quit the next day.
pedro you are gonna make me cry i do remember kirby vacuum lol my mom bought one on credit and forgetting how to put it together with all the attachments only use that thing once lol lol !
Thanks for this video Pedro, I used to sell cruise trips with Mob guys from N.Y. It kept money in my pocket if I sold. Everyone has to start somewhere man.
Yes, I have heard of Kirby my grandmother had one in the 80’s. In the early 90’s a young man was trying to sell us one. He had us show him the current vacuum we had which was a Hoover. He used the Kirby on our carpet and did the white paper demo. He said to us “welcome to the Kirby family” took our Hoover opened our door and sat it outside. We didn’t sign any agreement; told him we weren’t interested. Few days later a guy called from the Kirby office asking my hubby for a payment for the vacuum to be delivered. Hubby was upset went to the office to find out that the salesman had forged his signature.
6 years as a security guard and finally quit because the pay sucked and they would rather have guards doing overtime than rise pay to attract the guards that were needed to cover the extra shifts. We were always deficient 1-2 guards and they just take their sweet time finding replacements even if we have to do overtime for 3-4 months. These companies do not understand what a market is.
Right now I've had it. $10/online hr on uber in the DC metro area its ridiculous I want out. Trying so hard to get to a point to be able to save to start a landscape biz
Good perspective on things. I was full time driving a few years ago when things were great. Went back to W-2 in early 2022. Right now I've definitely hit a low point and while i don't want to go back to full-time driving I might just to get by. Grass isn't always greener, happiness is.
I started at a scam loan modification place. I knew within the first hour that they were scamming people for money and not doing anything to help them modify their loans. Went to lunch that first day and didn't go back.
I did something similar - door to door sales. Turned out to be a multilevel marketing (MLM). I'm wondering if Kerby was like that too. The deeper you go into an MLM the more bullshit you find. I was there for only a week as well. I wasn't selling anything and it just began to smell more and more like a scam.
Electrolux door to door was one of my high points of my life! Six years in that business. Had it down to a master. One out of three of the houses I got in, I sold. I was so good!
I’ve heard about this exact sales gig. The machines themselves were supposed to be top of the line. I never believed they could be that good otherwise you would see them on store shelves like any good item in a free market. The direct sales model in general always struck me as a bit scammy but whatever works for a product I guess.
Pedro I’m the same age as you born same year same month, I believe you are 12 days older and I too got a job trying to selling Kirby vacumns 20 plus years ago and I lasted like 3 days before I quit. Every job back then was either referred or through the newspaper ads. My point is it takes a while to find out what job you are meant to do sometimes. Anyone feeling down about no job, crappy job; I promise it will get better. The key is you have to go get what you want to do and not sit around doing nothing about it.
I trued doing tupperware sales....got a few friends to hold a party, and I made some money... but im not a salesman, abd it forces people to pressure people to host a party, and earn gifts, it wasnt for me.
First mistake calling it a Kirby vacuum machine. It’s a vacuum cleaner and has been forever. There’s thousand dollar vacuum cleaners today and people swear by them so not me but there are people who do.
In my early 20s one day i was working for an aerospace company on a team developing cryptograph equipment to jam radar, got laid off, was totally stunned and got a temp job two days later and was picking up trash. The temp work only lasted 2 weeks and there were some other different but equally "trashy" assignments during that stretch. But I was putting out resumes as i did the temp work and luckily got picked up by a technical manufacturing company and within a year i was managing a crew of 50 technicians on a national scale. But to this day, i remember the shock of realizing picking up trash was my job and also realize it helped shaped the work ethic i still have today. Though im technically retired but not really.Even though the company that laid me off did pay severance the thought of being unemployed was unacceptable. So i picked up trash for 10 days. Lifes lessons. Never be ashamed of hard, honest work. Ever. Doesnt matter what it is. Its a bigger picture thing.
I recently was more or less forced to start drawing SS; I'll be 63 in Sept. While I was working a full time job; 48 hr/wk., I've been ddashing the last 3 yrs; but not that often. Sometimes I wouldn't even do it for 3 or 4 months at a time. So, lately I've been doing it more often; & made top dasher for the month of July. The pop. in my town is only 24,000; but everything is usually 3 miles or less; with the occasional out of town 5-6 mi. delivery. My goal for July is to make $100/day. Sometimes I do it; sometimes I only get close. Sometimes I make the $100 but it's like pulling teeth!! Thinking about getting a part time job to supplement my SS; & only do dd once in awhile. I definitely don't want to DD 6-8 hrs/day; every day, just to try to make ends meet! Yes; I've heard of Kirby! My rich step-dad had 1 when he met my mom, & he swore by them. I've never used 1 myself.
And I would have to say my worst job ever believe it or not, was selling Tupperware. And tupperware sells itself, and I could not sell one piece. So I can convince myself that day that I could not sell water to a man on fire. I found a job running a CNC machine for 25 years, and I love it.
I did door to door energy sales (those people that say they can help you save on your electric and gas bills). Got suckered in when I was right out of high school. Money was good for a couple months but then every energy company and their mom was out knocking on doors too. Hated it. I didn't really understand it at first and really thought I was helping people save money. Did some research and learned that wasn't usually the case. The whole office culture that goes with it made it feel like a cult too.
Doordash uses tip amounts to determine driver payout. For example, if you have a $10 order with a $7 tip. Instead of you getting $17, dd will reduce the $10 down to $3, resulting in you getting only $10. The other companies do this all the time.
What do you mean a $10 order? I don’t think that’s how it works. If that were the case, then we would see some no tip orders that have $10 base pay. Those don’t exist
@@SiriusV21by $10 order they mean an order that needs to be $10 before it should be taken. It is their way to steal the tips. Base pay is $2. Absolutely nobody can take a $2 order and make money. The only reason that exists is justification for stealing tips. They have to bump up the base pay to say $5 before it gets taken. But instead, the customer tipped $3 and therefore DoorDash can steal that $3 and only pay $2 when the driver needed to get $5 regardless of tip or not.
@@SiriusV21he has no idea what he is talking about… Ive had orders with $8.00 base pay and high tip… in my experience there is no rhyme or reason to the way they calculate pay
@@TheDoorDashCam In my experience, DoorDash rarely bumps up the base pay. That’s why you see so many low no tip orders. I have noticed Uber increase the base pay a lot though if an order sits out there for a long time or has been unassigned by previous drivers. I have also gotten DoorDash orders with $20 tips before going just a couple of miles. If they are stealing tips, then it must be selective because they aren’t doing that with every order.
My lowest point was when I worked for someone else. We foreigners don’t work for other people, we have our own business. Foreigners help foreigners get ahead. That’s one thing Americans don’t have and remain broke living paycheck to paycheck.
I quit KIRBY before I started back in the late 80's I do still remember the "Head and Scalp, & pet massager, drain unclogger, light bulb changer, attachment LOL
yea i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when i was 15 yrs old back when we still used vials and had to draw up the insulin and test 4 times a day. thank god we have the cgm monitors now and the pens lol.
I sold Filter Queen vacuums as well as Culligan water softners. Sold the heck out of both but got burned out on taking advantage of people who couldnt afford them but bought them cause i made them feel like they needed it
In 2020 when the pandemic hit and I just graduated high school. I worked as a grocery store greeter/sanitizer person. Would sit at the front of the store 8 hour shifts cleaning cart handles for people. Really made me question what I was doing especially when my friends were attending college. Eventually they did promote me to work in the bakery and meat department but those were the longest shifts of my life. Just remembered they also had me track how many people were in the store I had a clicker. Apparently due to the pandemic a certain amount of people were allowed in the store at a time.😂
I did the same kind of thing. I was the only one that got picked out of 10. LOL I was so excited until I realized it was BS. I lasted exactly 2 days. I was riding in a big van and told them to stop and let me out
Heard of Kirby...lol, we owned one back in the 70s and 80s. We had the Kirby sales people, the encyclopedia sales people, the Bible sales people. Now we just get the security ones every other day and disconnected the doorbell. ROFL. I've worked fast food, cleaned hotel rooms, been a desk clerk, worked retail... here there and everywhere, now I'm too broken to even doordash anymore but I guess it's part of getting older.
Some of those vacuum salesman and the like would "bully" elderly women into buying. My grandma was one of them. She was to small to handle the vacuum they sold her and they cut the cord on her current vacuum.
really funny that DD put an ad on your vid! hahaha! you still made money from DD.. they still love ya! My Dad got caught up in Kirby way back in the early 1970s. He would go out all dressed up suit and tie to try and sell those expensive vacuums. My Mom got into "Vivian Woodward" make up, which was an expensive take off from Avon which she ended up going to and did that thru her life. The Vivian Woodward make up never sold..it was just too expensive.. Many years ago I picked up a Kirby at the thrift store for $15 and was so damn excited only to find out it didnt work all that well and was really heavy. My Dad's effort to get out of the Military was short lived, he signed back up and did 23 years. Got a real good retirement pay.. and medical care..
I sold Kirby’s door to door straight out of high school in 2007z we used aerosol air fresheners instead of candles tho. The white vans are all too familiar. Getting dropped off in a random neighborhood always felt pretty sketchy. Being straight out of high school tho I just quit and moved on and didn’t really think much of it. Too funny to hear you talk about Kirby. My low work moment was cleaning toilets and showers overnight at a gym. That was horrendous work.
For me, it was right around the time my ex and I broke up, and I was working for a temp agency at a warehouse, and I just didn't feel it and walked off the job.
I worked at an inbound call center for a luxury auto company. The customers who called in were so entitled, condescending, and downright mean. I hated the job so much I would pull into the parking lot every morning and have to talk myself into going in the door. Each phone call was so stressful for me that I was developing an ulcer. I hated it with a passion. The only plus side was I had some great coworkers that I made lasting friendships with.
I sold Kirby vacuums for 6 months also in my twenties as well. I had fun doing it. All of our appointments were set by phone people. The reason I quit, is that all of us salesman drank too much and I had to stop hanging out with them. I have actually thought of selling Kirby's again. I made good money selling those machines.
I had a similar experience selling meat out of the back of a truck 🚒 it only took me about 45 minutes to figure out I didn't want to do this but I was riding along with the guy that was supposed to be training me so I stuck it out for one day😊
Kirby, Cutco been there lol, still remember the dirt from my mom’s rug she was pissed!! Didn’t have any Kirby sales but a did have a couple for Cutco!!!
I still have a kirby i use to this day, looks like a robot pink enamel, my grandmother bought it for my parents when they got married in 1976, still works perfect.
Thank you for sharing that with us, Pedro! I sold Cutco knives when I was 19. It taught me what I DON'T want to do for a living! Take care... Jennifer in Dallas
That was the name of it! LMAO oh my god, that is a flashback! Yeah I went to that meeting for that and they described it to us and I think I never went back I think they even called me once or twice and I never answered LOL.
@@Mr.Betonyou tried it for 2 weeks, way back when I was a teen in the 90s, had no luck, anyone not making sales would get cussed out by the boss, dude looked like Mario, ha, definitely was not destined to do that job/hussle.....
Lowest point my life working 5 years at a place that rhymes with Bamazon.. In a fulfillment center. Becoming a top network performer in outbound pick. Having my manager's motivate me and push me to work harder and faster. Making the leaderboard daily. And even competing on a network wide level. Getting promoted to various positions and ultimately getting promoted into management. And I think of all those items I picked. And then you start doing the math. You start thinking wow I'm making decent money. But then you start realizing how much you're getting paid to pick one item. Literally pennies. Well doing DoorDash I'm still a picker on the outside in the wild. And I'm getting paid more than pennies to pick
It's just not worth it brother. Sitting in your car fighting traffic. The heat. It's so stressful on a car to have the AC on in the city traffic and we're just being taken advantage of. That's why I quit 2 weeks ago

If door dash reactivates Pedro today…I will bet you $10 that Pedro will hop back on door dash tomorrow
But U wudnt? 😂
@@UltraInstinct-yn1ft fo sure I would
Thought he got reactivated.......
I would in a heartbeat if I had his market
Wouldn’t really blame him. It’s money and content.
Sir ped,are you using mini van,Doing deliveries.😮
Nope
We had a Kirby growing up!!!
I like this video. My older cousin sold Kirby vacuums in the 1980s. It was good at first but by the 1990s he said shite and a scam.
Right now I've had it. $10/online hr on uber in the DC metro area its ridiculous I want out. Trying so hard to get to a point to be able to save to start a landscape biz
Personally I love DoorDash. I don’t like the negativity 😂
Good perspective on things. I was full time driving a few years ago when things were great. Went back to W-2 in early 2022. Right now I've definitely hit a low point and while i don't want to go back to full-time driving I might just to get by. Grass isn't always greener, happiness is.
It was the super close-up photo of a dust mite that sold me!
I started at a scam loan modification place. I knew within the first hour that they were scamming people for money and not doing anything to help them modify their loans. Went to lunch that first day and didn't go back.
Funny you brought this up. I was 18 when I was selling Kirby vacuums. I sold one to a sweet old lady. Quit shortly after that. lol
I appreciate this video Pedro🫡
I did something similar - door to door sales. Turned out to be a multilevel marketing (MLM). I'm wondering if Kerby was like that too. The deeper you go into an MLM the more bullshit you find. I was there for only a week as well. I wasn't selling anything and it just began to smell more and more like a scam.
Electrolux door to door was one of my high points of my life! Six years in that business. Had it down to a master. One out of three of the houses I got in, I sold. I was so good!
My best month was 36 units sold. Made $10,000 with bonuses I also hit. Those years were good!
I have an $80 vacuum that works great on my area rugs.
My brother in law used to do door to door Rainbow vacuums. 30 years ago.. People financed them and they were like 2 to 3 grand. Definitely a scam.
I sold cutco 30 yrs ago. I suxed at it. I still have the knives.
So we can’t deny that they were good knives for you to still have them?
Good product, but they were nit giving you a job, they were selling you knives.
Pedro, this was a very good video. 99 percent can relate. thanks bruh👍
Glad you liked it!
I used to sell tools over the phone back in the early 80's. Cold calling from a big phone room in Los Angeles. Very tough work.
I sold Kirby in my early 20's. Didn't make much money but gain a lifetime of experience.
And I would have to say my worst job ever believe it or not, was selling Tupperware. And tupperware sells itself, and I could not sell one piece. So I can convince myself that day that I could not sell water to a man on fire. I found a job running a CNC machine for 25 years, and I love it.
Sir, this is your best post yet.
I did it. I knew it was BS at the orientation 😅 Never went back.
@@SiriusV21 just using that as an example.
I own 3 business and i do the same except im white and American born so i only help fellow white American born people and thats all i hire.
@@CTECheetosamen to that!
I bet that Kirby lasted forever though. My parents bought one when we were younger and we loved it
I quit KIRBY before I started back in the late 80's I do still remember the "Head and Scalp, & pet massager, drain unclogger, light bulb changer, attachment LOL
yea i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when i was 15 yrs old back when we still used vials and had to draw up the insulin and test 4 times a day. thank god we have the cgm monitors now and the pens lol.
Apparently due to the pandemic a certain amount of people were allowed in the store at a time.😂
When I was a kid, my parents bought a Kirby machine. It sucked.
I use todo kirby
Im feeling defeated Pedro
Your best video to date!!
I did the same kind of thing. I was the only one that got picked out of 10. LOL I was so excited until I realized it was BS. I lasted exactly 2 days. I was riding in a big van and told them to stop and let me out
This week have been working outside in logistic in festival and i feel so good be not in delivery
Those really were good vacuums... we had one in the early '70's, with lost of attachments.
For me, it was right around the time my ex and I broke up, and I was working for a temp agency at a warehouse, and I just didn't feel it and walked off the job.
I was one of the suckers that bought a 800.00 dollar on credit 35 years ago, but I did pay it off! Thank goodness
Same here 1500
I worked at an inbound call center for a luxury auto company.
Cutco is not a scam...Cutco did a demonstration at Costco where I live not long ago.
Ok
They would make you purchase a complete knife set for the honor and privilege of being able to go door to door with it.
I just always wonder how much Mary Kay was sold every time i see a light pink Cadillac.
Cutco wasn't a bad product, the scam was getting you to buy a knife set you could demo.
@@nunninkav I still have a couple cutco knives your right they’re good knives for sure
My family had a Kirby. They were like the Mercedes Benz of vacuums back in the day…80s
They were loud and heavy af
So heavy
All vacuums are loud
@@nedg3740 actually…no
I still have a kirby i use to this day, looks like a robot pink enamel, my grandmother bought it for my parents when they got married in 1976, still works perfect.
Door to door selling subscriptions to the newspaper lol...that was rough....
I once bought a sub for mags from a guy
The volume with DoorDash is not there anymore in the DFW area
It's just not worth it brother. Sitting in your car fighting traffic. The heat. It's so stressful on a car to have the AC on in the city traffic and we're just being taken advantage of. That's why I quit 2 weeks ago
