He could be that, but I think it's that he was talking to an Aeon; The place he talks about to the unknown person on the monitor, World's End Tavern, and the planet of Epsilon are host to a Faction of Worshippers, the Masked Fools.
The Aeon in question is Aha, the Elation. The theory I ride with is that he's related to the Masked Fools. As for the scene, he could be 'speaking' directly to Aha rather than the player. I would actually guess that a connection to Aha would coincide to explain his Nihility Path in a way as Aha sees the futility of life to be alleviated by simple Laughter.* He could have despaired at a point and found joy in laughter, hence why he's kind of a jester-like character in the story by popping in and out while being light hearted the whole while. And why if he failed to bring a smile, it would 'break his heart'.

*Fun fact about Nihility, by the way, there is a Faction that worships IX the Nihility, who is a sentient black hole for lack of a better descriptor, called the Doctors of Chaos. Their goal, contrary to their Antagonistic sounding name, is simply to show Nihility that life has a meaning and that everything is not doomed for failure and to go to waste. Which, you could say, is perfectly in line with the Path of Nihility as a Fruitless endeavor of wasted effort.
For anyone who wants a non-gacha version or just wants more Starrail, the game owes its entire identity to the long-running Trails series right down to the combat systems, worldbuilding and style of humor. The director's gone on record to say so themselves in an interview alongside the Trails writer.
Isn't it kind of illegal to completely nab an entire game series like that though? Or is copyright just that bad in China 💀

Actual game differences aside (Starrail being an intergalactic pilgrimage and Trails being a Dark Tower-esque continental conflict), what sets Trails apart is doing what other companies consider too much work - an absurd amount of attention to detail. We're talking giving the average NPC better character writing than some games give to their main cast, to the point that the per-game average word count passes 800k (for reference, that's just shy of what FFXIV has with all expansions), and that's ignoring the focuses on geopolitics, music and lore. You can't copyright putting hard work into things people don't usually care about.
Tl;dr There's enough differences to give Starrail its own identity and even then the Trails devs are cool with it (I was personally delighted that another company finally decided to do something similar)

for clarification with dialogue speed: you're unable to skip through it if the dialogue line has "dramatic" camera shifts or position shifts from the characters speaking. if a dialogue line is just the characters standing still speaking, you can skip it, but if it's the characters talking while walking, you cannot until the walking ends. this is also the case in genshin
its even worse in Genshin in a lot of cases where a character has been done talking, but the animation isnt done playing and its a longer-than-the-dialogue animation.

Literally most people disclose sponsorships at the end of their videos. Are you stupid? (That question was rhetorical, we all know the answer..)
One thing love about the game is the text messages you get every now and then. Some lead to side quests, but others are nice or funny conversations between characters.
After being burnt out by Genshin due to how grind heavy it has gotten (plus the fact it now eats up like 30+ GB on your phone), hearing the announcement of Honkai Star Rail had me worried that it would be more of the same. As of this comment, I still have yet to play it. I want to play it because of how much I enjoyed Genshim, but I don't know if it's worth downloading because I don't have time to dedicate all my free time to one game anymore.
Star rail requires much less grinding I've made significantly more progress in star rail then genshin in less time and as mentioned in the video upgrade materials are no longer restricted to certain days also it seems like you get significantly more star rail passes(the thing's required for the gacha) than intertwined fates in genshin
The auto battle is a godsend and daily's only take a minute or two.
It's going to be the same ol shit. It's made by the same people after all. Ignore comments that say otherwise.

2. Insane log into reward and daily expectations
3. Gotcha system tying roles and elements to characters?!

@@destroyer4929 Equipment grind is the exact same, you're still gonna be spending thousands of stamina trying to get the right main stat and sub stats.
I guarantee you, if it isn't as bad as Genshin is right now, it will be within a couple of years. Gacha games always become more predatory over time.

Yeah, MHY probably took the idea from the Galaxy Express 999 in Leiji Matsumoto's work. (The guy who did Captain Harlock.)
I can remember like 10 space trains off the top of my head. Someone else said Starrail was literally ripped off of another space train game. You can make a space train, just don't have it be the exact same as Starrail.
Also, you could even make a fanfiction of whatever you want, change everything's name, and sell that fanfiction as your own work. Know how I know that? 50 Shades of Gray was a Twilight fanfic. There are like, a dozen published books that are just ReyLo fanfics... done by ONE AUTHOR.
If these completely unoriginal stories can become bestsellers, then guess what? You can make your damn space train.

Ah, I see he didn't get far enough in Simulated Universe to unlock using his own characters. The rest of this is pretty accurate though.
Its possible he didnt get far enough in the Story itself. You dont unlock full access to it until after a while in Jarilo-VI and idk if he was playing a limited version for sponser or his own account.
I can't wait to watch the internet go through the same cycle as genshin but with this game.

I know it's kinda hard for variety in a 3 action style RPG, but tagging along with friends like Genshin would make some interesting battles and strategies in the Rougelike mode or even just exploring the towns.

I want artists like Scott to be well and get money they need to live comfortably. Putting the sponsorship at the very end of the video is not great though is it? To his credit, it is the first line of the description. If you’ve seen his other videos, you can tell he dialed the salt back here. I don’t know what his revenue is, so I can’t judge him for these types of things as I see so many other YTers that I enjoy have very similar things in their videos or just as videos like this. I hope he’s doing well off enough with the other streams of revenue he has soon so that he doesn’t have to make videos like this often or ever. This is assuming that he wasn’t 100% truthful in here, and I also can’t know that. Hope you doing ok Scott.

and then you get her as a trial character and can use her ultimate as much as you want on the space station
I think there might be an editing mistake in this? At the end you say "thanks AGAIN" for sponsoring when that's the first time you mentioned it. It has to be said both in the description and the beginning of the video.

The text thing is kind of weird in this and Genshin. You can skip or speed up a bunch of text, however the thing that can prevent you from moving the text forward is specifically character actions. If a character is going to move, pose, or do an action, the game will not let you move forward until they finish that movement. Probably to prevent you from getting dialogue with weird actions.
Must be a weird thing that comes from running the cutscenes in their engine.

Also wanted to add on the topic of daily check in to actually get all the rewards for the daily stuff it takes maybe 5-10 minutes per day. Which is really nice for that busy schedule. The weekly stuff with simulated universe takes more time but those are more of the when you have time.

I think my only gripe is the UI should have more color and nore clear spaces where you claim things from. The travel guide for example means "map" to me. All the panels are black and white though and ping a red dot whether its something new or obtainable, so its easy to get confused where things are.

Quick small correction: Himeko drinks coffee when she shoots that death beam. There is an achievement locked behind using that ult in a single battle multiple times and your character chats with Himeko about expensive and fancy coffees over text messaging.

I just started this game on a whim the other day, it's so much fun, I already love it!
Recently just got the game and I spent two hours on the tutorial. Coming from Genshin it was a bit of a drag, but when it got to the form of combat I realized I enjoyed the turn based combat instead of the hack them up.

Fun fact: Thought this game has Honkai in the title. The only connection it has to Honkai impact 3rd is a character who traveled from that universe to this one. There are also a bunch of characters that look like and/or named after HI3 characters but are practically different people. It’s essentially an AU
