  • This video will discuss the Brotherhood Outcasts!
As with any faction that exists in the Fallout Universe, those that have joined together under a single flag will have a shared reason for their unification, be it safety, money, power, the Brotherhood of Steel are no different. Their first and foremost purpose is to recover advanced technology to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. But what happens when an Elder, the highest ranking member responsible for guiding a Chapter, goes against everything it stands for? The result is a schism, a brutal rift where the group can no longer continue and divide in fear of facing an inevitable collapse. This was something that happened in 2276 to the Loyalist Chapter that was sent from California to Washington, 2500 miles across the country.

For those wondering what the meaning behind the canon insignia is: The gears represent their engineering knowledge, the sword is their will to defend themselves, the wings represent the uplifting hope that the acquisition of lost technology represents for mankind's salvation following the devastation of the Great War, and the circle represents the fraternal unity that makes the organization a true brotherhood.

It's because the broken steel DLC added in new stronger enemies and Bethesda forgot that they will kill NPCs. This was a problem in Oblivion as well when you reached higher levels. NPCs outside of cities would easily die to stronger enemies.
Skyrim still had some issues but not as bad. If you took down dragons fast then you will be fine. They patched the vampire attacks out.
Fallout 4 the merchants will just go down but not die. But they can be killed if you hit them, so be careful. Especially if you are using explosives. I found out because I used missiles and notice the doctor merchant died so I reloaded and used a gun and he survived. As the missile explosion had affected him and killed him. So I try not to hit the merchants now when I see them fighting enemies.
Fallout 3 at later levels, you may lose all those traveling merchants to high level enemies, which sucks. Glad they changed it in Fallout 4 at least.
It was just poor balancing by Bethesda. I didn't mention New Vegas since it wasn't made by them but NV mostly kept enemies in territories so it was never a problem in NV.
Albino radscorpions, feral ghoul Reaver's and super mutant overlords all were damage sponges from broken steel so that we had tougher enemies to fight at higher levels. Bethesda just forgot the NPCs were vulnerable to them.

@@TheMelancholicWriter I mean disregarding the Vault Tec side, imagine it as a pre-war military tool. You strap it on, it jabs your arm, it meshes with your biometric signature, then it keeps track of basically everything for you. It keeps track of important dates, notes, mission info and parameters, vital signs; it can administer stimpacks directly into your bloodstream as well as alert you to damaging ambient ionizing radiation.
Losing one of these would be a massive security risk - imagine you're killed in action and the enemy gets their hands on it? All your potentially classified data is there, your biometric data which might include security clearances is there, your contacts, possible info on experimental tech, etc etc is all there.
If it were a military tool, or a tool designed by Vault Tec based off existing military tech, then it makes total sense as to why it would become inoperable unless voluntarily removed by the wearer; forcible removal would destroy it and everything on it which protects against theft/falling into enemy hands, it prevents misplacing of this highly sophisticated piece of equipment, it prevents mix-ups because until reset by the current owner it cannot be used even by different users who also own a pipboy. I imagine in a structured setting where it was originally implemented there would be harsh punishments for anyone caught removing their pipboy or worse losing one.

Which is why the chapter did not split the moment the course change happened. It was after months and months of fruitless fighting and dying whilst ignoring every other objective they hold sacred. The Outcasts did not disagree with fighting mutants they disagree with Lyons 'going native' caring more about fighting the DC super mutant infestation than any anything else and getting good Brothers and Sisters killed for it even recruiting wastelanders into the faction just to make up the bodies he was throwing into the grinder.
Honestly if you take a step back and look at the whole Lyons brotherhood they are a troubling case of an old mans obsession getting alot of people killed fighting for what sounds like a noble goal, when you know if they had stuck to their job of scouting sites around DC for valuable tech they would have found the source of the muties.

    • @TheMelancholicWriter
      @TheMelancholicWriter Před rokem +18

The split didn’t happen right away, but took a bit of time. After The Pitt they were all strained and on edge. The reprioritising of goals was the first step toward the split. Lyons brotherhood had more technology, firepower, manpower, training, skills, influence and stability than the outcast ever have. And that’s when stopping super mutants was top priority and technology second. It really shows how time has changed and the brotherhood have to adapt just like new vegas tells us.
I believe the west would have agreed with Lyons to some degree if they saw the numbers ( properly ) and how there’s a super mutant factory.
We know that lot of the elders felt like that in the west. Interplay wanted to change Brotherhood elements as seen in fallout tactics ( which is reference a lot in fallout 4 ) and fallout brotherhood of steel ( which also reference a lot ).
Another thing fallout bible isn’t entirely non cannon though.

With the Fort Independence mod that expands the sub-faction of the Outcasts I roleplayed that my lone wanderer agreed with them, worked for them, was made a initiate, and became as mission objective oriented as them. My character was to the Outcasts what Sarah Lyons was to the Brotherhood. Since my character met the Outcasts before the Brotherhood, I roleplayed into that further by acting aloof towards many of the Brotherhood members for their foolish savior complexes. Pretty fun roleplay I must say. You go from wanting to save the wasteland to a technology obsessed isolationist that will gun down scavengers and raiders for scraps of energy weapons or power armor. You also start buying and trading for every piece of advanced tech you find. It makes scavving and trading far more interesting than you'd think.

Honestly a fallout game with rad spiders instead of rad scorpions would be pretty cool. Their both of the arachnid family, quite possible spiders get benefits similar to scorpions when the bombs fell and FEV altered their DNA. What’d be crazy is not only the venom you could harvest from their fangs in possibly some spears or crossbows, but also their webs. Think about it: the webbing from spiders mutated on the scale of rad scorpions could quite possibly have webs as strong as steel. They’d have to be to hold up spiders that big and honestly could play into the game as a resource for weapons and armor crafting.

With the mod Fallout Wanderer's Edition, which is a very good overhaul for F3, many raider bands had "Fallen Brothers" with them which were basically outcasts who deserted and wen't mercenary for the Raiders.
What was cool is that the mod tweaked with the armor statistics and if you fought with an enemy in Power Armor with anything less than 5.56 full auto ammo and/or your weapon skill was below circa 60, the fight with a "Fallen Brother" was always won (if at all) by the skin of your teeth. This made encounters with raiders very interesting, especially in the first half of the game because every group of raiders could have at least one "Fallen Brother" in it.
I remember that when I faced one of them in Wheaton's Armory , I had to use all of my mines and grenades to get the dude to a near death state and even then it took a considerable amount of .44 and 5.56 ammo to bring him down.
I had a ton of fun with these fights, they were really exciting.

The "normal" brotherhood of steel should've been the outcasts.
The Current Outcast brotherhood stands for everything that the BoS from Fallout 1/2 stood. The BoS in 3 accept and willingly protect wastelanders.
The original didn't. They only accepted the Vault Dweller because of desparation.

So outcasts left because they didn`t want to secure the area (Washington and outskirts) with technology in it?
Super mutants seem like big enough threat to attempts to find tech anywhere. I understand that they REALLY want that old tech, but super mutants already managed to kill some amount of BOS. Going out of relatively well defended area with smaller group just so they can say "I am actually doing what BOS people supposed to do" seems short-sighted. Yes, they have that fort and patrol some other areas, but they don`t have people to secure them. So that tech can fall into anyone`s hands. So they splintered basically because they wanted to stroke their own ego.
And no recruiting is just plain stupid. All of them are going to die at some point, so there just going to be some pointless robots left. Very helpful in a mission to secure tech and show those people in the citadel that removing relatively big threat to your operations is not necessary for your continued survival and success of said mission.
I think some outcast says elder "gone native" or something similar. No, he isn`t (at least not at the start). He tries to find source of and remove actual threat, while outcasts walk around and stare at tech that they can`t get. And act like assholes to natives they need to get to tech.
Then plot happens, threats and okay-ish leaders are removed, so BOS and outcasts reunite to build that dumb blimp and go to somewhat annoy people in the commonwealth. Guess someone at BGS remembered that outcasts were a thing and gave them a conclusion. Undeserved, but they are gone anyway.
I played FO3 a long time ago and my memory isn`t good, so I don`t remember much about outcasts and using my understanding of this video as a base.

If the mutants aren't stopped, then it doesn't matter if they're gathering tech, there will be no humanity left to save.

Perhaps this new group of Outcasts would then more resemble Lyons's vision of the Brotherhood.
