You all are making it very hard to resist starting a 4200 build. I have too many projects now but this is so cool. I love everything you are doing with this engine.
I think I may find a 06 up tb go ms converter th400 narrowed 8.8 Caltraks… probably do pretty good.
I’m in agreement with you especially when I have one in my collection of vehicles!
@@kurtwilson1578 this guy on my street has one that hasn’t moved in his driveway for the 3 years I’ve been living here. That’s looks like a good place to start for me :D I have to get ls swap rx48 done and sold
You are doing an amazing job promoting the 4200 keep it up before to long there will be complete forged bottom end kits for them
Steve Morris Racing Engines is machining a complete lower main girdle too.
Those cast stainless turbo manifolds are amazing. They make them for a bunch of engines and seem to be a very solid option
For sure!
ZZP makes a very nice one for the ecotec too
Thank you for promoting this engine. I hope that 4200 swaps become the new hottness on CZcams. With the extreme cost of the Barra, 2jz, and rb26 it only makes sense that there would be demand for this engine.
Cost for the barra? I can pick them up for $50
@@TheMrkylester101 I'm in the US so all the parts and the engine would have to be shipped all the way to the US. Not very economical.
Hahahah I've got 6, 2 of which look like lawn ornaments 😆
Now talk someone into making reasonably priced steel oil pans please
This definitely will make a project more convenient.
Gahahahahaha DUDE, EPIC Manifold Fabrication Designs, and EXCELLENT *Credit-Where-Credit's-Due* Recognition of this Artec Freshness. I'm pretty staggered to think that these actually exist all these years later!!!! These are *NOVEL* days!!!!!!!!
Just discovered your page from 1320’s latest drop and I’m here for the atlas shananigans 👀
You are winning at CZcams sir
Parts for showcasing them on your show !!!
Thanks!
Good idea on the taper allowing you to upsize wastegate if needed, never seen that before. I have a 50mm electronic on the Barra, tight fit but a nice fit.
Thank you Artec Performance!
Don't undersell your own work. The manifold you made looks dam good man. You made what you needed and it worked as intended.
What a great piece for the 4200
Love the MCM clip :D I'm watching the update to that video after your video here! Turbo Yoda just loves those Hondas lomfl
Yeah. He's great. Thanks for watching!
This is very encouraging to see. May do a 4200 swap on my 67 f-body and will use this. They need to make an intake manifold and an oil pan too. Hope they take the dive.
Thank god new developments are still coming along as the 4200 begins to die out
Still a ton of 4200s in our area. We have a little bit of time.
This thing is awesome! Thanks for all the great Vortec 4200 info.
That's a nice looking manifold!
Great video dude
Here
These videos make me wish to see the 4.2 in any Brazilian-made platform, just to imagine what a "second generation" I6 powerhouse could have been...
You guys would have modded them and done everything that could be done before I ever had a chance to touch one. Lol. Love what you guys do with the 4.1L
Impressive 👍
"WHHHY HAM HI SAHING WHHHAT WHHHeird?" say cool whip "Coohl WHHHip" Love it man! I need to patch my exploded intake manifold and I'm scared to do it myself with my cheap harbor frieght spool gun welder. Such a great piece, thanks for sharing!
Lol. Thanks for watching bud
Hit the nail on the head on pricing. Welding labor and material isn’t cheap. I’ll be buying one of these asap even though I have the tools and skills to build one of my own. Time is money!
Thanks bud!
For 1700$ dollars though that’s a lot of money when I can make one in 4-5 hours with like 200 dollars of quality pipe
@@Agilepickleunite 4-5 hours…you should go into business and sell them to us for $400
Wow, that's a beautiful piece!
I think you did great at showcasing the advantages of the new manifold. Now let’s see a dyno!! 😂 homemade vrs artec.
It's coming.
@@Calvin-Nelson did they mention msrp? I see the 2j stuff @about1500$
@@hondatech5000 they said same price as their Barra manifold. I think it was $1720
Oh god now i gotta do it lmao, time to take out a loan and build the turbo trailblazer
So, I'd love a video just showing what you can now buy versus rig up. I think you have access to the only cams. No roller rockers available or coil packs, so you made your own? Actually, getting support is great! I need to go through all of these again and make a list for getting a basic stage 1 build with cam and injectors started
Now we need cams that aren’t regrinds!! Oil pans too!!!
Yup. I think we will be getting some soon
Very nice piece.
This looks awesome
Im going this route for my foxbody instead of an ls. Im inspired
Australians love boost, no wonder they built a 4200 manifold 🤘
Badass. Keep it going.
Now all we need is a nice intake manifold
Yup!
I remember you saying the 4200 swap takes an oil pan modification. Once I figure that out, this may make the 4200 a swap for my next project.
Hopefully we can sort that out soon.
How cool would 2 of these engines be mated together as a V12 configuration !
Manifold looks great, I will be buying one 😁
Thanks bud. I can't wait to hear how it sounds.
This is so cool. Thank you.
You're welcome!
@@Calvin-Nelson I will be watching to begin my Trailblazer's transformation.
Looking good
WOW that is nice!
This is the beginning of the Vortec 4200 being a real thing.
Awesome man..
Thanks. Artec should be proud
Now intake manifold
I have a barra with a g45 and a 60mm waste gate and boost control is terrible, minimum boost is 28psi so I’m going to try one of these, they are ment to work very well on a barra!
Artec makes great manifolds. He has assured me that it will control boost fine with a single 50mm wastegate.
I'm pretty sure you're the Sheldon Cooper of the car world 🤟😆
Bazinga. (I'm not upset about that. Lol)
Is ARTEC interested in manufacturing an intake manifold for the engine?
This is crazy had no idea it was you talking on my post on fb abut how much boost I can throw at a completely stock motor 😂😂😂
Yep. Hi.
At $1700 they better be a work of art! Damn
Got to love inflation.
The thing keeping me from doing a 4200 is the oil pan. I know you can fab your own one up but I'm no welder and I don't even know if there's anyone in the Kansas City area that would make one. Last I knew, the folks making the cast pans stopped production.
I totally get where you're coming from. I'm trying to get some folks to make the oil pans too.
@@Calvin-Nelson I'd think they'd be a good seller as more and more people consider the swap.
now we just need them to make an intake
sleeper trailblazer builds right now
I'm tempted.
You have to take the artec mainfold and put a quick spool valve in ;)
Oof. That would choke half the engine at low RPM.
I’m jumping on one of these before they become impossible to buy.
Ummm...manifold🥰🤤
Any links to some trailblazer turbo builds? All I can find are ones about LS swaps
I noticed in the tb picture it looked like an 02-05 engine with the p10 ecu. I was under the impression that you couldn't tune that ecu for a turbo and I was wondering how they sorted everything out? Im just curious because I have an 02 envoy that im looking to potentially turbo.
Ha! When they do come out send your old manifold to holdNer and see which makes more POWER!! LOl
We may just do the comparison ourselves.
So I have a 08 trailblazer, and I want to do so modification to it, but I don't want to turbo it as I want to keep it as my daily. Besides getting some cam out of it, what would you recommend?
About fit into the PV. You can just plug the WG port on the manifold and weld a WG pipe to the exhaust house of the turbo. Saves a lot of space. (And works great :-))
Nah. We'll just cut the wastegate turb down a bit a angle the wastegate over top of the frame.
Awesome video! You've Inspired me to attempt one of these swaps... I got a 87 hardtop Camaro I'm wanting to try and swap a Vortec 4200 into, just wondering how hard it'd be to reuse the factory ecu and wiring to make it work with the car..?
Not hard. This will help sites.google.com/view/vortec4200wiki/home
Okay thanks! Can't wait to get it running, just going to keep it as a stock motor for now then eventually turbo it
Holy shit that things $1700! That’s insane price lmao!
You get what you pay for. It's a work of art and it will be very hard to duplicate at the same quality.
That is a nice setup. Have you heard about the new LS 4 cylinder crate engine?
Yup. They seem like a really cool package.
This is a fantastic development! I guess you're just begging me to see if the fitment works on a G-body now ;)
I'm sure it will fit. Are you planning to install a 4200?
@@Calvin-Nelson honestly, planning on putting it up for sale soon. But of no one buys it at the price point after, I will think long and hard about that swap
@@Str8sixfan if you do, and you can fit one of my older turbo manifolds, we could work something out. Send me a message on Instagram if/when you decide.
I thought it might have been a SPA Turbo manifold before getting into the details. Glad to see the aftermarket is starting to consider this engine. I know that's been a big goal of yours Calvin, and for everyone else watching.
Edit* Not that I have any background with this engine (yet at least), but I was thinking about this the other day, and the question is, what GM platforms (besides the OEM GMC's) does this engine fit well into? I've always wondered why the Ford/Foxbody stuff, even though I've always wanted to do a Foxbody Barra, but that idea is what spawned interest rather in our stateside contender here.
Thanks! They fit great in Foxbody Fords, but also fit GM G-Bodies, A-Bodies, and lots of different truck platforms really well. You can make them fit judt about anything if you are determined enough. See our Fiat build. Hopefully we will have oil pans that fit common muscle car platforms soon.
@@Calvin-Nelson 👍 yeah I was hoping to get your advice with it, while the G-body was what I was curious about, though I figured it had the practical size in engine bay to accommodate.
@@kylecurry6841 Rule of thumb. If it came with an inline 6 from the factory, it will most likely fit pretty decent.
@@Calvin-Nelson makes sense! I remember you saying that with regards to the Foxbody. I know Ford was just getting into V6 packaging during the 80's, and I know the Foxbody was prevalent in the form of the Mustang/Capri, Thunderbird, Fairmount, and quote me if theirs more, but I never knew Ford's I6 came in the Foxbody, rather I always thought of it as the econo engine for non-V8 Pickups.
Calvin can you check to see if the manifold scavenges?
What do you mean by that?
As your builds are always are very budget minded, would you have paid $1720 for it instead of making your own?
Calvin, what rearend come factory trail blaser?
I believe it is a 14 bolt of some sort.
Not going to be cheap but might take a lot of the work out of building a better manifold for some people.
Looks great, do you know what the MSRP will be? How does it perform?
Haven't tested it yet. They said the same as their Barra manifold $1720
Wow! It’s a very nice piece, as anyone could tell from the video, but not cost effective for the “cheap” build…but you are right…you get what you pay for. I am interested in test results.
Will they offer a split version for parallel set ups?
If there is demand for it, sure.
4200 prices are going to go up within the next year i bet😭
Doubt it.
I’m sorry I’m still building like 10 welded ones before I spend 2 gs on that
I hear ya!
Now one for the 5cyl
Not enough demand unfortunately
@Calvin-Nelson I know bud. But i can dream. At one point there wasn't a demand for the 6
Fancy. First
Do you know who makes lower compression forged pistons for the 4.2?
No one, but there is a wiseco subaru piston that is very close, which is coming up soon in a video.
@@Calvin-Nelson which one? I guess some machining is involved to get it to fit.
Calvin do you know if they are going to offer a non divided version?
They do not
@@Calvin-Nelson Curious to see what it'll sound like then. Would be awesome is 6boost made something! Their manifolds sound amazing on the barra stuff.
Why is the waist gate set up so odd? Maybe I am just not adjusted to I6 engines. But wouldn’t a waist gate turbo be better? And how much work would a VGT turbo be to put on and tune? A electrical vgt or boost regulated waist gate turbo would be a huge boost (pun intended) to the stock 4200 performance and economy. I am more interested in making a street light to street light Chevy trailblazer than all out power. Or a 4200 swap into a older Camaro.
Putting the wastegate on the turbine will provide good boost control, but cause the turbo to spool slower. Turbos with internal wastewater are just not great for good turbine flow.
That's an outrageous price. 🤦🏾♂️🤯
Time is definitely money, but these suckers are north of 1700 bucks. I wasn't even planning on spending that much on the engine at this point.
To be fair, they look like a great piece for sure, and I don't begrudge them that price, but it's definitely a little steeper than I was expecting. My local scrap yard has several of these engines, and I really badly wanted to put one in either my K10 or c20, but it looks like it'll be LS swap at this point.
Do they have one to fit my Hummer H3 3.5 liter (5X5 ) 5 cylinder 5 speed manual transmission ?
They do not. Maybe they will in the future.
@@Calvin-Nelson Thanks for the fast reply !

Is it better or just more compact?
Runner geometry is way better.
Stronger also
Come on holley. how about a terminator system for this, please.
Probably won't happen unfortunately

👍💪😂😂😂
too bad the price is sky high goddamn my om606 fully cast manifold cost me 650 shipped
Awww shit only 1700 guess who's trailblazer is getting a tuebo
what do the atlas engines weight? fully dressed from factory?
Not sure on fully dressed, but a bare long block with no oil pan is 320lbs.
@@Calvin-Nelson thank you for the fast reply. wow that’s light👍 i’m thinking about putting one in a 1999 new edge mustang. building another budget drag n drive car. thanks for all your hard work and great details in your videos. 👍
To bad they don't make one for the 5 cylinder atlas.
I bet they would if there was demand!
@@Calvin-Nelson Has anyone ever used the new style ignition coils on the older camshaft cover?
@@Hummin_Along yes. I sell a kit to do it. www.paccracing.com/store

Yes. They're great. We will do another soon.
Wow only $1700
Yeah. If you don't know how to fabricate, it's pretty fair in my opinion. Fits great in lots of chassis'
Too many people get hung up on "equal length". It doesn't mean jack or make anymore power. David Vizard blew the theory away years ago. People should go watch his video on tube length. Pretty educational.
We've seen different. Can't argue with the sound either.

its nice but not $1700 nice. especially knowing its cast. can be made super fast and easy. i'd rather spend way too much of my time makingmy own before spending $1700 on this.
Yeah. I don't agree. It's investment cast stainless steel. Not cheap.
Still getting through it, but I don't watch MCM, so it looks like Moog is still pulling the same boring stunts with someone who doesn't need jokes like that.
I love MCM. Good clean fun.
@@Calvin-Nelson I stopped watching when The skid factory came into existence, Moogs childish acting about smells, always buying the newest "budget" performance car, in the case where I stopped, the mk6 golf r, then going to a sponsor and throwing parts at it. Nope. Just showing how much they make from CZcams, just looking at views, it looks like others are finally bored with them too. I mean two expensive engine swaps in a few months into a pretty new car is also taking the Mickey too.
But I also went past Thier Level they broadcast too, I love technical information and how it was done videos, not getting someone else in to do the work. And there's so many more channels now to watch than 5 years ago when skid factory started.
