I think this game came out when i was in 3rd or 4th grade.. i remember having anxiety attacks just playing it, really creeped me out, one of my favorite games. watching this has been seriously nostalgic.
It works in ultima underworld 2 as well. I've used it myself to finish the second game. Even though it is a bug and it is cheating, it doesn't actually ruin the game, it just makes the game(s) easier to complete. And there is a lot of gameplay in these games, so not having to worry about potions and spells running out only serves to condense the more enjoyable parts of the game while eliminating the minutia.
What a way to break the game. What was that turning things into smoke all about? This is probably my favourite game of all time, it never occured to me that you can basically beat it without fighting anything.
Are you "glitching" through walls as well? I presume you are burning scrolls, and their effect continues to work, while the ash does not get consumed as the scroll would. Funny thing it, I still remember the password "deco morono" and a fair bit of Thepa from the mute. "Tossa yessor click" etc. But I also remember the rune castings for many of those burned spells. Vas In Lor, for "daylight" for example. XD
No offense, but it would be MUCH more interesting to see a speedrun without resorting to game glitches (ie pile of debris). With that said, how did you manage to open the back door to Tyball's quarters?

@whplague One of the scrolls he burned probably was a reveal spell. That should do the trick.
@GreenBusble No. She doesn't give you anything. She just teleports out to warn her people. But it still is not nice to not save the princess. :-)

It's a glitch, they are destroyed items. They aren't supposed to work.
