Great timing on the rain. It may be getting a little late in the planting season so that could be why supplies are limited. It's been pretty mild around here so far, not cold at all, the soil temperature map shows we're around 50-55 degrees which is still right in the sweet spot for ryegrass germination. You should get a good stand of ryegrass for your efforts. Keep us updated.

How does overseeding grass work? My pasture the clover took off and is great but i would like more grass. Thinking of broadcasting some grass mix in it
Hello, thanks for watching. Rye grass is a winter cold weather grass. It’s also one of the simplest to sow. You can broadcast or drill the seed. It just has to touch the soil to germinate. It’s a quick way to get a fast growing winter grass. We use it to supplement hay.

Friday I saw a whole bunch of people pulling fertilizer buggies behind their trucks in North Hunt County to put down fertilizer ahead of the rains. We didn't get a lot of rain this weekend but hopefully more to come this week. We need it.
Hello, our calves are born in January-February and we push the heifers to be ready at 15-16 months of age. We only keep the largest/fastest growing heifers and bred to a calving ease bull.
People don't know all the things that go into having cattle. I never asked, and maybe you can tell your story on the next Drifter Live, but why don't you live closer to the farm? Not my State, but why don't you fertilize instead of spreading Rye seed?
Hello Mike. Good questions. I’ll have to elaborate on next live. 1. Both my wife and I work during the week in Dallas. Pre COVID, I was flying out of DFW almost weekly. Our family had multiple generations with land near the Texas/Ok border. So, that is where the ranch is. About 1.5 hours NE of Dallas. We look forward to retiring there one day. For now, it’s a great getaway. 2. Rye grass is a winter grass and grows through the winter and dies with warm weather in May. Our native Bahia grass or Bermuda dies in the fall and comes back in the spring. The two together really supplements one another. Hope that helps.
