Well there Is a scientific study about SUGAR killing the bacteria base in the digestion system. Which effects the digestion as these digestion bacteria helps chop the nutrions for us. So future on don't quote "sugar is harmless", because that isn't true. Also after 3 hours eating sugar I would add more good digestion bacteria to balance the digestion system.

He has a PhD in nutrition so his information is scientifically based and from a nutritional standpoint@@bibmo84 A ketogenic diet is fine for short term goals of weight loss according to basic nutritional guidelines, but leaves out to much in the macro department long run (I have a Masters:specializing in eating disorders. Our information doesn't make us liars, but is simply how we learned about nutrition. The Mediterranean diet is the healthiest diet out there for long term sustainability and satiety. But you do you. Whatever works for you is what people do anyways.
I'm on yr 3 of my fitness journey which I started at age 40 during the pandemic, and Layne was one of my informational pillars. I am now in the best shape of my life, and it really does feel like the death of a previous version of myself and the birth of someone new, like a second shot at life. So happy you invited Layne to the podcast. His diet/nutrition videos are the best!

I did the same as you when covid came, and lost 10kg slowly rathe than starve myself, just doing the things this guy has said, weighing food and stop lying to myself. Wish i had seen this guys videos before, he is talking a lot of sense. People have no portion control, huge amounts of carbs! Dont go on a diet, change the way you eat by slowly replacing foods with alternative foods.
With so many followers on your channel, maybe you could consider sharing your journey so far to inspire others.

Consider seeing an obesity specialist. Obesity is a complex disease that requires a multifactorial approach. Diet culture does not address it adequately. Be kind to yourself and seek the help you deserve.

The last part really moved me to the core. Layne is one of the most beautiful people I've ever heard speak. The fact that he's so full of questions (innate curiosity which coincides with humility) and gratitude is such an inspiration for the kind of person I want to be. To, despite the complexity and pain of a relationship with someone who no doubt survived a lot of trauma, only want to ask questions and say thank you, is so gorgeous it almost shocks me, so unused as I am to seeing such humanity in someone.

He has no idea about fasting, that's all I listened to so could be more.. I'm on hour 93 of fasting with some light training and I've gotten shredded as well as losing an abscess I had.
@benmorgan681 congrats on your weight loss and health improvement. I did IF and extended day fasts for many years. Initially I got good results but long term I started to lose muscle mass probably because I was not taking enough protein. Also because of the extended days fasting like 72h or 5 day fasts.

@@AmirKhan-lp1tl appreciate it man! After my 5 day fast I don't believe I lost muscle and I think it's because I continued to work out. I definitely lost a bit of strength but I was ripped day 5 so that's why I don't think I lost any or much but I should try to measure it one day. I'm tempted to try the one day eat and one day off fasting approach with 3-5 days every few weeks.
I am a huge admirer of Layne Norton. He advanced a lot the knowledge in fitness and nutrition for average people, as he says, but way beyond that.

So glad Layne is getting this exposure. The man is a total treasure and a badly needed voice to counter the misinformation so rife in the world of fitness and nutrition. Hoping this gets him even more subscribers.
Consistent trauma sustained over a long period of time creates a combination of PTSD & CPTSD.
You can heal from it, reduce the intensity, recognise when you are triggered and can calm down enough to be able to respond over reacting to triggering situations.

I did not study near as in depth as Dr Layne but he’s one of my go to podcasts when I want to listen to something relevant to health and science. I did my health coaching certification and personal training but I have a ton of respect for him! So glad he’s been platformed in this way. It shows me what I need to work on. After my older son was killed by a negligent driver two years ago, I let myself go. My excuse was grief. This went on until my daughter came home and read me the riot act. She has a nice loud on pitch voice. Our whole small town knew she was pissed at me and why. That did not have any immediate impact, however it did propel me to start taking care of myself. Your decency and honesty for a body builder man at your age is remarkable and much appreciated. You are making a difference for many more people than you could imagine.

Avoided caffeine for years, for fear of it worsening my disability, and cycles of fatigue; but after introducing it a year ago, it has helped me function so much better. 😊

@@CarnivorePaul caffeine has a six hour half life in the body. If you have no caffeine 6 hours before bed time you will be fine.
A quarter of it is still in your system. 12 hours later after the half life goes through 2 cycles
About 10 hours to get rid of all caffeine after consuming it. You only accounted for the half life, which would mean half of it would still be in your system 5-6 hours after drinking it. @@momerathsx

Honestly, this was the best podcast episode I've seen so far. Just personally dealing with bullying and the weight topic has been a struggle. I've managed to lose 100 lbs but after 3 years of this weight struggle, its hard to come out of that diet mind set and I feel stuck. I appreciate discussions like this because it helps to see I'm not alone. I understand people's concerns but its also a mental battle... its one thing for me to acknowledge it and another to change the habits.

The only way to maintain to to find foods you enjoy that are within your calorie maintenance. You can’t ever go back to how you use to eat. You need to find a new balance that’s sustainable for you. It’s a daily choice. Do you want to eat whatever or do you want to be healthy? Why do you want to be healthy? What happens if go back to where you came from? Is that what you want? (-154lbs over 10 years ago and maintaining in healthy weight range).
Dr. Norton is graced with the ability to speak his truth and as a true professional, doesn’t sell what people want to hear… instead shares as much as he has knowledge of the topic on all sides of it… it’s nice to feel you can stay locked into what he is saying without trying to be looking for the catch at the same time… 🙏🏼♥️💪🏼
I totally agree with this wonderful discussion of calories. One other factor that he did not mention though, which has massive effect, is the effect of hormones. High cortisol results in people carrying more weight; and it is well known that menopausal women, doing EXACTLY the same as they did 10yrs earlier (and yes, they CAN exercise just as hard), can often still add belly fat; especially if they have accumulated life stressors which increase their cortisol in their later years. People experiencing a trauma or reliving an old one may not JUST put on weight because they comfort eat and/or get lazy, but because of the effects of cortisol
Yes, PCOS, and diabetes all affect hormones which contribute to weight gain.

Great! I recently lost a bit more than that. I guess this is an anti-testimonial. I did not eliminate carbs, fat, vegetables, or anything else other than candy bars, salty snacks, and sugary drinks. I reduced saturated fat. No time restricted eating. I did (and do) spent 30 minutes on a stationary bike daily before breakfast. I did start eating more beans, lentils, and crunchy vegetables. Along the way (actually, before I lost the weight) my blood pressure dropped 20 points. My HDL-C dropped as well.

This was SO uplifting to listen to! Huge respect to Layne for being strong and vulnerable! Trauma is the elephant in the room especially in this day and age, the fitness industry included. Mental health should really get more attention, especially for men who fear to appear weak by opening up.

I just want to highlight the absolute brilliance of this podcast/ CZcams channel. I found this channel because of a celebrity guest that I was a fan of. It has now become one of my favorite nutrition and fitness podcasts I listen to. I love all of his guests! One important thing I have noticed across all his guest is that most of them have a very consistent understanding of health and tend not to contradict each other. Which in the world of dieting and trying to lose weight seems to always be the case. There is a very clear understanding that the body is different for all people and things you put in your body will react differently among all people. I also love that most of his guest have done their own extensive research on their subject matter and is not surface level like most weight loss programs.
I think the reason so many tune into you, is because you are such an awesome interviewer. You have great guests and you always take them to somewhere they weren’t expecting to go. Plus I love the sound of your voice . ❤

Great Interview. I think this is the best nutrition, health, and fitness advice I've ever heard in one place from one person. He left room for nuance, circumstance, and individual adaptation and gave a very unbiased review of multiple fitness strategies and how one could apply them in their lives. Thanks for the insights!

Layne’s expertise took me to a level in powerlifting I never imagined possible, PH3 and so on. Rather he’s right or wrong about anything, I’ll go with it if he says he believes in it. I cried myself watching at the end, I’m a grown man but Layne is my hero! 💪
Was liking it before I watched the full episode just cause the guy cried and I think more ppl should show strength through showing emotions 💪❤️

Gosh... watched this all the way... Love it so much. Thank you Layne. Thank you Steve. I just lost my Dad this past month, old age. He was 85 going on 86. I can totally relate. Didn't know about the end stages of life until I started taking care of my Dad when he was bed ridden and even before then. Unfortunately for our U.S. Territory we do not have Hospice, so I had to educate myself with youtube. This was so amazing. Thank you again for sharing.

The point on motivation and discipline is the best I’ve ever heard. Everyone encourages or teaches you to be motivated but because it’s hinged on emotion it will always let you down. Be disciplined not motivated.

Layne is bloody brilliant and that was an incredible podcast to learn from!
He quotes studies as if they were the plain truth, but we all know many studies are funded by lobbies and interest groups who target a specific conclusion and direct the study towards what they want to prove. The sugar industry, the processed food industry, are all very powerful. Take studies with a pinch of salt.
He talks quite specifically about potential flaws and limitations in methodology, sample size of studies etc. If studies are biased there is a way in which they are being biased. Regardless of funding, if you can't demonstrate how that mothodological problem is happening, you're just a consiparicy theorist.
He looks at meta analysis overall. You cannot have the success with 1,000’s of clients like him with that much positive outcomes.
I end up crying with Layne hearing the last minutes of this amazing podcast! He touched my heart with his knowledge and his character.

Thanks for featuring Dr Layne Norton. I discovered him and his studies on reverse dieting after suffering from ED for years and learned to fix my eating as well as eating more. He really helped me fix my relationship with food
So glad you got this guy on. Literally 90 per cent of the nutrition fitness people this show has had on have been terrible. Mostly outright rubbish with fashionable nonsense. This guy is the real deal thank god

Dude, you need not be surprised about your channel growth. You have an amazing interview style. You get to the bottom of things that are emotional for your guests. And while other also very successful interviewers talk about themselves too much, you do that like the salt and spices on top. Very awesome, sir!

There is a few major set backs with taking Ozempic. Hi I'm a diabetic and used this for almost 2yrs. Being a diabetic you go through losses more that gains. One of which is gastroperises yes believe me it's no fun. So when starting Ozempic I wasn't told that the feeling of fullness is actually gastroperises. It's caused by nerves not squeezing so the food stays in the stomach. The next thing that happens is you become deathly ill in pain and constipated. I went through this for over a year. I was thinking maybe I should speak to my PCP. She examined me and grabbed my side explaining as she grabbed my hand to feel this large hard thing on my side. I said I know that's why I'm here. She with an upset tone of voice said this is "poop" and it's dangerous to have it all in here like this. She explained the blockages worry her I could have died. She went on to give me a list of meds. Miralax, senna, and colace. I was to mix the types up and take it as she wrote it. This went on for bit. Mind you I'm in excruciating pain for many months. I advocated for myself trying to find out what meds could be the problem. And there it was Ozempic ! I was given this medicine for diabetes and maybe loose a few pounds. I added pounds of poop. And loss so much muscle . I spoke to the endocrinologist and she stopped it immediately. She had doubled the gastroperises problem. I changed my diet to mostly dark leafy greens and other dark colored veggies and fruits. I added a Magnesium supplement. It is good for many things like sleep, leg spasms and of course it's in the name and poop. Ever used Milk of magnesia? I also added in digestive enzymes, chlorophyll, magnesium with calcium and D3 etc. It took two more months but when it started working my doctor cheered for joy. She really was scared for me once we found out the issue. I said I would do this all from home. I hope this heals others quickly. And gives you food for thought about what you're putting in your body. It was all the rage so much so that the rich people bought out every pharmacy for this stuff. We needed this for lowering the A1C not for vanity. Be careful. Be extremely careful meds meant to help you have side effects that can potentially be deadly. And the doctors weigh the pros and cons but sometimes it's in the wrong direction. Stay safe!!

I watch so many podcasts relating to health, weight, fitness etc. but this is the first one I've been compelled to listen to twice! So much of it resonated for all sorts of reasons I went back through it bit by bit.
