    0:25 The big advantage of YYYY-MM-DD is that it automatically sorts correctly without any date magic. 1999-01-01 comes before 1999-01-02, and this before 1999-02-01, which was earlier than 2000-01-01. Sorting it written the American way for instance gives 01-01-1999 before 01-01-2000 before 01-02-1999 before 02-01-1999.
    12:30 And Spain is mentioned in the Dutch Anthem.

      Who tf sorts every day? When you look at a date, you want to know what day is it. If you saw 2025-06-27 you would be confused as heck. Unless you always forget which month and year is it, YYYY-MM-DD doesn't make sense. Of course, it's still better than MM-DD-YYYY which makes absolutely no sense at all. DD-MM-YYYY makes the most sense. If you saw 27-06-2025, you'd already know what day is it.

    • @SiqueScarface
      @SiqueScarface Před 2 lety +1

      @@aurexify That would be akin to saying, that you would like to display distances with the last digits first, as you would be interested mostly in the last miles. In general, if you look at numbers, you should decide if you want to be big-endian or little-endian, but putting the day first would be somewhat like "medium-endian", because the numbers for year, month and day itself are big-endian, but you want the smallest part (the day) first, putting the date in little-endian order.

    • @aurexify

      @@SiqueScarface What I was trying to say is that when you look at a date, the day matters the most.

    • @SiqueScarface
      @SiqueScarface Před 2 lety +1

      @@aurexify That depends on the date. If you look for instance at March 15th 44 BC (the assassination of Gaius Iulius Caesar), the most important to most people is the 44 BC part.
      Only if you look at dates that are less than a month away from now (which includes today), the day is the most important.
      Here we are deep in some Math stuff: Cardinality (amount) and Ordinality (place). Dates are of the ordinality kind, they sort the days into a sequence. If you look at two dates, you can always tell which one comes earlier. But dates are expressed as an amount, the amount of time passed since the the Birth of Jesus Christ (or the time that has passed later until Jesus Christ was born). From a numbers point of view, it's the most logical to sort the parts of a date in the way you would write numbers: With the largest places first, because they essentially mean an amount.

    Fun fact, the date number issues is a result of the process of mail travel and message delivery. When it took months to deliver any news by foot it would be done by giving the months it took to arrive. When letters started being more prolific that transferred over to dating letters. About the same time the states were being established so we adopted that as well, which works out as travel across the sea would take months so letters from home needed that dating. As it got more and more developed in Europe, letters would start taking only days to travel pretty much from anywhere to anywhere in Europe often meaning the month wasn't the most important date to see how far/long ago something happened. So they got flipped, but in the states it still took months for a letter to travel most places due to it's size, and messages from Europe still took months as well. So we never switched over and messages sent to use still used the old dating system. The advent of globalized communication through telephones and eventually internet happened so fast that *Hours* not *days or months* became the most important timing, to know before Days ever became a huge deal here.
    So we stuck with MM/DD/YYYY into globalized communication whereas most other places (including Canada which was tightly packed cause of the weather and conditions) had mostly switched to DD/MM/YYYY
    Honestly a lot of issues and differences and problems with being up to date come down to America's size and the diversity of the people in it.
