My man Drew is so American that he managed to mess up saying DD:MM:YYYY by saying month/day/year despite it being right in front of him.

To be fair Americains are not locked to any standard for the calendar display.... I've seen all three and a few more... It's just personal/company prefence.

I'm Canadian and I never saw the year first in common usage, but you don't need to be Canadian to know that YYYY-MM-DD is undoubtedly the best way to write a date for anything that has to be sorted or ordered by date.

0:15 in the Basque language, due to its gramatical organisation of sentences, the date is written yyyy/mm/dd. For example: 2022ko otsailaren 22a (2022/02/22).
Actually, even the percent sign is swapped (it is written %100, not 100%).
"Month, day, year does make the most sense to me"
Literally no reason why. The one everyone else uses is in a acsending order, and anyone can understand it, but the US just HAS to be special for no other reason than to be hated.
The Year-Month-Day format is very useful when storing Data over long periods, because it is just a increasing numbre, so the computers store it in the right order but in practical life day-month-year is the one I grew up with and makes sense to me, because the day is what changes the most frequent so you see that change first
I am terrified for the day that our great grandchildren look at country ball memes at political cartoons
0:25 The big advantage of YYYY-MM-DD is that it automatically sorts correctly without any date magic. 1999-01-01 comes before 1999-01-02, and this before 1999-02-01, which was earlier than 2000-01-01. Sorting it written the American way for instance gives 01-01-1999 before 01-01-2000 before 01-02-1999 before 02-01-1999.
12:30 And Spain is mentioned in the Dutch Anthem.
Wow didn't notice that was a thing
Who tf sorts every day? When you look at a date, you want to know what day is it. If you saw 2025-06-27 you would be confused as heck. Unless you always forget which month and year is it, YYYY-MM-DD doesn't make sense. Of course, it's still better than MM-DD-YYYY which makes absolutely no sense at all. DD-MM-YYYY makes the most sense. If you saw 27-06-2025, you'd already know what day is it.
@@aurexify That would be akin to saying, that you would like to display distances with the last digits first, as you would be interested mostly in the last miles. In general, if you look at numbers, you should decide if you want to be big-endian or little-endian, but putting the day first would be somewhat like "medium-endian", because the numbers for year, month and day itself are big-endian, but you want the smallest part (the day) first, putting the date in little-endian order.
@@SiqueScarface What I was trying to say is that when you look at a date, the day matters the most.
@@aurexify That depends on the date. If you look for instance at March 15th 44 BC (the assassination of Gaius Iulius Caesar), the most important to most people is the 44 BC part.
Only if you look at dates that are less than a month away from now (which includes today), the day is the most important.
Here we are deep in some Math stuff: Cardinality (amount) and Ordinality (place). Dates are of the ordinality kind, they sort the days into a sequence. If you look at two dates, you can always tell which one comes earlier. But dates are expressed as an amount, the amount of time passed since the the Birth of Jesus Christ (or the time that has passed later until Jesus Christ was born). From a numbers point of view, it's the most logical to sort the parts of a date in the way you would write numbers: With the largest places first, because they essentially mean an amount.
4:46 at least fish and chips with peas is good
0:20 as a canadian myself, we do that.
Fun fact, the date number issues is a result of the process of mail travel and message delivery. When it took months to deliver any news by foot it would be done by giving the months it took to arrive. When letters started being more prolific that transferred over to dating letters. About the same time the states were being established so we adopted that as well, which works out as travel across the sea would take months so letters from home needed that dating. As it got more and more developed in Europe, letters would start taking only days to travel pretty much from anywhere to anywhere in Europe often meaning the month wasn't the most important date to see how far/long ago something happened. So they got flipped, but in the states it still took months for a letter to travel most places due to it's size, and messages from Europe still took months as well. So we never switched over and messages sent to use still used the old dating system. The advent of globalized communication through telephones and eventually internet happened so fast that *Hours* not *days or months* became the most important timing, to know before Days ever became a huge deal here.
So we stuck with MM/DD/YYYY into globalized communication whereas most other places (including Canada which was tightly packed cause of the weather and conditions) had mostly switched to DD/MM/YYYY
Honestly a lot of issues and differences and problems with being up to date come down to America's size and the diversity of the people in it.
But what about countries that has always used DMY? Or is this just a USA/Canada thing?
@@Liggliluff Honestly I have no clue, this is just what I've read and heard with regards to the States and it makes a lot of sense to me. Considering how many other things that are different and mocked in the States by EU people are *basically* for very similar reasons.
People who think MM:DD:YYYY makes more sense than DD:MM:YYYY are legit bonkers
During Bandera's stay in the camp, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) established in 1942, constituting an armed arm of OUN B, conducted an organized extermination action of the Polish population in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia (the Volhynian crime) - as a result of which about 100,000 were murdered Poles.

going with the year first is good for file names for sorting.
YYYY-MM-DD is the format used by the International Standards Organisation (ISO), due to the fact that it matches up with how times *within a day* are written.
A full timestamp would read as follows:
year-month-day hour:minute:second - neatly in order from largest to smallest unit. Personally, I think it’s even better than DD-MM-YYYY because of that!
YYYY-MM-DD is certanly acceptable, it works great. My personal favourite is still DD-MM-YYYY though. MM-DD-YYYY only screws me up and doesn't make any sense at all.
Aye, I name files with YYYYMMDD so that they're in chronological order.
MM DD YYYY makes most sense, you count up to 10, not 10 and down, smallest to largest.
most scales go from smallest to largest
your weight scale doesn't start at 1,000 and go down to where your at, starts at zero
@@SSJ3CyLink how does that makes sense? Days are the smalles unit, years the highest. And if you argue with sorting, YYYY-MM-DD makes more sense, since MM-DD-YYYY wouldn't wort correctly as well, same as DD-MM-YYYY.
So DD-MM-YYYY is from smalles (day) to largest (year)
theres only 12 months, up to 31 days, hmmm which is bigger; seems pretty simple to me
How does month/day/year make the most sense though? Give me reasoning. I personally think day/month/year is the best, but year/month/day still makes so much more sense than month/day/year.
I also believe in day/month/year supremacy
Going from smallest to biggest makes most sense especially when it comes to date. Because usually everyone knows what year we're in, and what month we're in. But we always lose count of the day, so it's good that the day is the first thing we'll see when looking at a date.
In the English Language, we say "February 26, 2022" -> Month (February), Day (26), Year (2022) -> 2/26/2022. That's how.
@@natnew32 No you say the 26th of February 2022.
@@The_Fat_Controller ...noone says that here.
YYYY-MM-DD is the only format that if you're scanning, saving, or making files and naming them based of its time of creation daily, the files will organize themselves naturally from oldest to newest in any filing system, analog or digital.
Bro you are so close to one mill! I can't wait till you make it :DDD
the yyyy/mm/dd format kinda makes sense if you want to sort stuff by date, because if it was dd/mm/yyyy then for example the first of December would be before the second of January
You sort things on a daily basis? The purpose of a date is to tell you what year is it. DD-MM-YYYY makes the most sense out of all systems.
