    Good review! I have 285/70/17 E-rated 3-ply sidewall Baja Boss AT tires on my 4Runner. They work great in snow, rain and mud. I rotate my tires about every 5000 miles. I am surprised they are still fairly quiet on road. Mine are 2 years old and have 23,000 miles(37,000KM) on them. I have been very happy with them and will be going on another long road trip towing a trailer. Will see how well they work on the rocks at Moab Utah.

      That’s great to hear they are still quiet as the aggressive treads do tend to get noisy over time. Thanks for the feedback!

    Mickey T's are quite expensive in my country. They are even a bit more expensive than the BF Goodrich KO's. I bought the Radar Renegade R/T tires and it was the best choice of my life. Great quality, handsomely aggressive tread and sidewall design, and IMPRESSIVE price point. They're Rugged Terrain tires, which give you the benefits of both A/T and M/T tires. I currently have almost 30,000kms on them (60% of the time on-road, and 40% off-road) and they still look new!

  • @crispyinasia61
    @crispyinasia61 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Thanks for the review Mark. I have had the BFG KO2's for about 160k kms on my 200 series and have not missed a beat, except in the scraggly bush tracks, particularly when its damp. On road, gravel, beach and dry tracks all fine, but add water to the tracksand they struggle. My usage is 50/50 road/offroad, and from all that I have read and watched the MT Baja Boss AT seem to be the way to go. The weight isn't an issue as the BFG's were similarly heavy. From the looks of it the agressive sides should improve wet track handling.
    One other question, with the heavier and thicker carcass how have you found in the lowering of the tyre pressures for tracks and sand, as compared to your previous tyres? Do you have to reduce them lower so you get the length and bagging out or is it about the same?
    Looking to getting these middle of the year.

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  Před 3 měsíci

      I’ve heard similar feedback re the KO2s which was whey they weren’t in my consideration.
      Re lowering I can’t say I’ve noticed too much difference. You’ll get a bit more balloon effect with a 2 ply (Eg Wildpeak) but I’d personally sacrifice this for the added strength off road. I still get enough length out of the tread when I lower to 12-15PSI on the beach.

    • @crispyinasia61
      @crispyinasia61 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks for that Mark. On the beaches down here in the Great Southern they are especially soft and going down to 8psi and lower is not out of the ordinary. Like anything new there will be an element of trial and error, but looking forward to it. 👍

    Did you tell any noticeable difference in offroad traction with these compared to AT3W's? How bad was the drop in mpg or liters per 100km?

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hard to compare fuel use to the AT3s given was on a different vehicle but given they are lighter than the MTs, I would expected fuel use to be marginally higher. Offroad traction I’ve found better in the MTs - much more aggressive treat and sidebiters on the Mickeys certainly helps. Saying that the Falkens are a great all rounder

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  Před 5 měsíci

      Interesting. I have 30k on mine now and tread wear is very minimal. Out of interest, what sort of use did you put these through? - was there a lot of towing and what tyre pressures were you running? Rotating / balancing every 10,000km makes a big difference for longevity on any tyre. I’m expecting to see over 80k on these but time will tell.

    • @matangistation
      @matangistation Před 5 měsíci +1

      That was a good review. No towing, just live on 12kms of gravel road with lots of corners and hills. It’s a good test for any tires. I run 32 psi and had swapped and alignment done , on a prado 150 . Thinking the wild Peak you mentioned might be worth a go. Cheers

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  Před 5 měsíci

      Tyre pressure could have been a contributor. I run 40PSI all round which was the recommended pressure from Tyrepower (they suggested 38-40). I’m sure gravel roads would have played a role - and no doubt you may have had to drop the pressure for these conditions.
      Best way to work out what tyre pressure you need is using the 4PSI rule. If you search it up you’ll find some information. It’s by far the best way to keep your pressures right and for longevity.
      If you’re looking for something different, Wildpeaks are good - not as aggressive as the MTs and have 2 ply sidewall instead of 3 on the MT which makes them not quite as strong, but they are a great all rounder and you’ll find a little less fuel use.

    Did you find the bigger tyres messed with your gears? How did you solve it?

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  Před 4 měsíci

      Bigger tyres will always impact shift points and your Speedo. I would say shifting isn’t as smooth as on standard 31s but you do get used to it.
      There are things that can be done in ForScan but should only be done by someone that knows what they’re doing. There is a Facebook group called ‘Ranger & Everest / Amarok Mods Aus - Inc ForScan - SAEB’ which has some good info if this is a route you want to go down

    • @Perth4WDandCamping
      @Perth4WDandCamping  Před 8 měsíci

      Friends have run Razr before. Good tyre but they didn’t get high km from them which put me off a little. Wildpeaks AT3 are a great tyre but not really in the same category as the Mickey Thompson Baja boss ATs given the MT have a much more aggressive tread and thicker sidewall construction.

If it’s mainly on the road, with a small amount of offroad then the Falkens (they will be a bit quieter on the road and offer good offroad performance). If you’re doing 50/50 on road and offroad and want something more durable offroad (3 ply MT vs the 2 of the Falken) then the MT is in my opinion a superior tyre.
