    Most Korean baseball stadiums have a wide gap of seats and many various table seats, event seats, and premium seats, so the number of seats is small compared to the size of the stadium
    And Daejeon Baseball Stadium is scheduled to open a new baseball stadium in 2025. (Currently under construction)
    Incheon and Seoul are scheduled to build a dome stadium by 2028 or 2029.
    Busan new Baseball Stadium will also be built by 2028 or 2029.
    (Of course, it depends on the situation..)

    The reason Skydome has the capacity smaller than it looks is because of the re-design. The planned capacity was actually 20000. When the city council was in discussion with Heroes for tenancy agreement, the team requested to have more premium seats in the lower deck behind the home plate and dugouts. As the premium seats take up more space than regular seats, so the eventual capacity became less than 17K.

    Gocheok Sky Dome was originally planned as an amateur baseball stadium. However, the plan was later changed to a pro - baseball stadium and became a dome stadium. Therefore, there is a limit to the number of seats because it was built on the site of an amateur baseball stadium. So now, planning a new dome baseball stadium in Incheon and Seoul.

    I'm shocked how small their stadiums are, given how big baseball is there

    • @44song
      @44song Před 2 lety +2

      7/9 stadiums are above 20k. This is sufficient size, bigger than most of AAA stadiums anyway. The smallest stadium is waiting to be replaced by a new stadium with 22k capacity. The team in the second smallest stadium is the least popular team of the league. The away team crowd often out numbered the home fans if they are from the local region. So 16K capacity is enough for this team..

    • @romiarkan450
      @romiarkan450 Před 2 lety +2

      It's quite surprising that a city like Suwon (population 1.3 million) for example only has a 20k capacity baseball stadium. That means only 1.5% of its citizens can fit inside. Other Korean cities also have roughly the same population to stadium capacity ratio at best, some even lower.

      @@44song I find it hard to believe they can't find 16k people out of almost 10 million Seoul citizens to fill the stadium regardless of the Heroes' popularity. And here I thought them signing Yasiel Puig would boost attendance.

      @@romiarkan450 There is no need to have such large capacity for baseball stadiums. Because each team plays 144 regular season games in Korea, all to be played within 6 months. There are 6 games in a typical home week. That mean 120K tickets available in that week. The baseball attendance of Suwon was 9k in the last pre-Covid season, so that's 54k crowds in one home week.

      @@romiarkan450 Heroes were formed as new team back in 2008. They've signed all members of disbanded Hyundae Unicorns in Suwon but did not continued the team history. Heroes chosen Seoul as the new home but despite the large local populations, most local fans already affiliated to the two very popular teams, twins and Bears, whom already in town for more than 25 years. So Heroes are struggling to attract existing fans. They can only attract new fans which accounts for very small segment of the market. I personally think they should move to Ulsan. The city with 1.1M pop. still without a baseball team.
