The introduction to the song is incorrect. The Coal Quay is a part of Cork city where there are many stalls where women called "shawlies" would sell their wares. This song was made popular by the famous Cork balladeer Jimmy Crowley. His version is better, and is actually filmed "down the Coal Quay" as we say in Cork!
