- Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

I was born a Hindu. My parents were good people but as a teenager I went on a search for the God of the universe. I read widely and one day I read a Christian testimony that so moved me that I decided to tell Jesus that I believed in Him. When I did Immediately I was filled with a divine peace & joy. That was more than 40 years ago & my testimony is that Jesus is the true & living God.

Same. I was Atheist for 27 years of my life and extremely unhappy, empty, and angry all the time at everything. I started praying and I swear I felt the holy spirit enter me. It's like a warmth inside of my body.

I felt that too he is looking for God but at the same time tries to find every reason excuse etc to prove he isn’t real to himself. Like a self sabotage. I’ll pray for him and that he finds God and the answers he seeks.

Yeah my father was really into science etc he was really rude towards religious people. I remember as kids he would take us once in a while to Catholic Churches to mock them after and be like see they are all mind controlled freaks they’ll do whatever they’re told etc. it’s sad thinking about it now. He was also a free mason and really wanted me to be one. My mother on the other hand was just non religious. She didn’t believe in any religion and would just say just be a good person and you’ll be ok

Masons just have to acknowledge a higher power. There are plenty of masons who are atheist and do not believe in a higher power but want to be in the masons. Just like there are people who attend church but don’t really believe they just do it for the community or tradition. The one thing I appreciate here is that the students are listening, while the other two discuss and respect each other. Nowadays at a college campus, or pretty much anywhere, I'd expect that the people that don't like what Cliffe says would be yelling, finger in his face and blah blah blah, without even wanting to discuss.

Just because they provided an answer doesn't mean it is correct. Most major religions provide answers for our biggest questions which is why they were made in the first place. They're stories not actual answers. The Bible is not solid truth it's full of mythology mixed with actual events and places.

As a human, you should actually follow evidence and logic. You should care about making sure that claims are supported by evidence before you accept them. Christians teaching their children that it’s ok to just accept claims on faith alone, is why we have so many morons that repeat anything they hear, without checking if it’s true. I had similar questions when I was atheist or agnostic, and few people were able to meet me where I was. They would usually try to move me along from where they were. I think the guy asks good questions, and I believe there are better answers than switching to a parallel branch of ethics and values. That covered this in my comment above. All that said, I can see that that he was prevented from giving evidence. But to finish, A, The guy probably has all the evidence he needs, but B, he should keep seeking God, asking God to open his eyes. It is a way of thinking that it's outside the box of simply studying the chemistry beaker or petri dish.

I limped in pain for nine years and Jesus is good news because the spinal surgeon said after medicating me a long time, that I would never walk properly again!!!
Then I took my little son who had chronic asthma to see a priest in another church and I said to him, pray over my son like it says in the bible, and he did that on Tuesday, then on Thursday same week his asthma left him at the dinner table and NEVER came back.
And this year 2023, I pleaded with the Lord three weeks to take my breast cancer away and I woke up in the morning and it was gone! God's healing is not painful. So many judge Jesus before knowing him personally.
So you should never give up on Jesus Christ who asks, "Do you trust me with your whole heart."

@@stephenmarlowe3907 Jesus called God Father & Abba (daddy). Ancient Jews referred to God as Adonai. I think you’re being too legalistic and acting rigid about names that reference the same person. Jews never attempted to call God by His name and instead had too much reverence so they used a substitute word Lord (Adonai). Even when reading the Tetragrammaton they would say Adonai (Lord) instead. They didn’t try to sound out the Tetragrammaton. So for you and many modern day believers to be so hyper focused on Hebrew pronunciations is weird and wasn’t even how early believers or Jews acted. It’s fine to say Jesus or if you want to get on some trend to call Him by Hebrew or Aramaic name I suppose it’s fine too as long as you don’t sin about it and get legalistic creating a new sect. What’s important is your relationship to Jesus, Son of the Most High God, the One that has eternally existed and is God, as long you ask for salvation through Him and repent then you will be saved.

But when I was a kid I beg God for miracles so I could believe. But no miracles so that's how my Faith began. Later in life I had miracles after miracles happened. Sometimes got divorced miracles the minute you ask for them. And sometimes God says wait. And sometimes God says No. If you pray for a miracle. Ask it to be God's will that this miracle happens. Exactly, the shopping cart is the perfect litmus test for this. Cliff could have been a little more direct, but he instead chose to obfuscate his answer with rhetorical questioning and philosophical worldviews, instead of providing him with an answer that would have been more receptive towards, because I think black shirt was just trying to have a dialogue.

Furthermore, Proverbs 14:15 ESV tells us that, "The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps." Always give thought to your steps and don't believe everything presented to you at face-value, lest be a simpleton.
The Christian's attitude was poor. It seemed he just wated to win the argument and often used the tactic of claiming the atheist was being unreasonable (you cut me off at the knees). As you said he was like a politician who spends more time rubbishing his opponent than going though the benefits of his own manifesto. He could have gone though the proof of Jesus's resurrection or something like that - you can't make someone 'see' the evidence but you can present it in a compelling way. A Christian should be humble at all times. This one was not a good advert for Christianity.

You hear people do this sort of thing all the time. While discussing the most fundamental questions of life, they will display a false humility by saying, "I am not saying I am right about these things. My opinion maybe the wrong one."
In reality, this is just avoidance, not engagement. They muddy the waters by pointing to the fact that we all must answer these deep, eternal questions from the same finite position inherent to humanity. In the process, they will assert their own virtue while at the same time announcing that no one knows for sure what is virtuous.

Just to clear this up for anybody watching, whenever an atheist brings up the lack of evidence for God, implying that their conclusion is best, the philosophical correct rebuttal is that the best argument for God, either the watchmaker or causation (unmoved mover argument) is deductive and not inductive, meaning that it is not a question of observation, but of cold, hard logic. Since induction and science is based on probability, and not certainty like deduction is, it is contingent or dependent on future phenomena, meaning nothing can _ever_ be certain by observation or science. What this implies is that someone who attempts to use the lack of evidence for doubting God can only be agnostic at best because their certainty is dependent on future and new information. There was a checkmate within the philosophical realm around the time of the new atheist movement which forces many atheists, Hitchens and Neil Degrass Tyson for example, to admit that they are agnostic rather than using science to have an affirmative belief in a negative. If a scientist ever claimed that he had an affirmative belief in the lack of a black sheep, he is not following the scientific process because science can't affirm an analytical statement or conclusion such as affirming a negative. It is completely contrary to the scientific method to begin with. Science is meant to be questioned, no matter how grounded the truth may seem. Now there are some theories claiming that all scientific "laws" are actually fluid and are in a constant flux. If that turns out to be true, that the very foundation of science and it's laws shift without any known cause, then we are even father away from knowing whether a all knowing and powerful God exists via the scientific method.
This leaves us with deduction, which sadly many don't fully understand it's essence. We live in a world where we get gratification from proving something is true with evidence, but causation doesn't necessarily work like that, as it is self evident. Deduction is a process where something can be very likely true or false without proving it so (such as special and general relativity, where once the equations were discovered, it was already assumed to be true by academics before the multiple eclipse experiments were done and the theory tested). Induction is a process where something can't be easily known, but can be proven or disproven (ie falsification, such as finding out whether a goldfish has a liver). Much of the time these two processes are separate, unless logic can meet tangible facts, such as in a criminal case or when a theoretical or philosophical question meets a scientific answer to shift our fundamental understanding of science. One has to be understanding to the reality that an inductive answer may never be given to a deductive problem, and many people are too impatient to accept that in this modern world. The causation question to existence itself may never be realized here on earth, scientifically that is, and for some that is too painful to acknowledge. But this is where faith and intuition come into play, something that we use every single day for many reasons.

Cliffe is so precise with his words and thoughts. It’s really hard to see a man standing in front of him not understanding the question cliffe asks him back even after 4 times repeating it. The guy wants straight answers but doesn’t give them.

The Christian man is saying that you wont allow me to give you evidence to support what I believe so what is it that you believe in that has that has so much evidence to make you believe in it. He was trying to get the man to tell him where he stands so that he could provide evidence to contradict what he believes and therefore bring him closer to Christ. He just kept repeating himself though instead of rewording his questions so that the other person could understand.

I saw claims of what he believes in, but a struggle to provide evidence or explanation that supports his words. Using verbal gymnastics to push your claims as correct over another's views without properly expanding on it will not get you anywhere.
In my opinion, as a faithful, Holy Spirit led, follower of Jesus Christ, this guy, who I've only ever watched one time, comes across as "holier than thou," confusing, argumentative and not at all in a manner of genuinely interested in having a two-sided conversation.
The non-believer approached the conversation with what genuinely appeared to be an open mind and an interest in understanding why the orator of the faith believes what he does. Instead, what I saw, was that he was met with haughtiness and questions that went in circles. It looked as Cliffe is trying to make the questioner look like a fool, when in fact, he himself looks like a pompous ass who refuses to engage in a normal conversation.
In my opinion, as a Christian outsider watching from a non-believer's POV, I see this very event as yet another reason to reject Christianity because of people who call themselves Christians.
