Deltarune Chapter 2: Ralsei and Susie's Cotton Candy Adventure (Fan Animation)

I'm not sure what sort of ghoul or creature it is that invaded my brain, but I suddenly had the intense need to animate this. I'm not complaining, thank you ghoul :)

this is really good! the only problem I have with it is some of the sprites I think we're unnecessary. but the story and characters are relatable and it's overall a really great animation. but, what do I Know? keep it up and you might win an Oscar 😃👍

This is surprisingly good, the characters actually act as they would in deltarune itself and it feels like this would be an actual interaction that Ralsei and Susie would have if left on they’re own. Great work.
Friend groups do also need to not be ALWAYS with everyone since they do need to sometimes have diffrent groups

Okay, this is extremely sweet. I never thought seeing two friends just open up would be so fulfilling.
I'm really looking forward to a scene like this in the future chapters. Just the gang having a heartfelt moment, with a cinematic background, and the classic Toby Fox music playing. Might even feel a bit nostalgic depending on how long we need to wait for the next chapters.

I like how this kind of represents how much Kris is important to the party at the beginning, its usually so awkward since Ralsei or Susie starts conversation with Kris and then they join in on it.
Actually, Kris is kinda the speaker and we’re the ones that choose to say it.

Love how this video helps show the off-screen character development these two went through, with Ralsei realizing his own emotions and helping Susie realize hers, and Susie helping him learn to live a little more.

As Susie put it, this was all pretty sweet and is nice to watch them just interact and open up without any stakes. Though I imagine, depending on the player's actions, it could contrast with how Kris and Noelle Proceed through the city with it growing ever colder as they go.
Hehehe, technically in chapter 2's normal route the both of them are re-introduced while still at the fair and while eating cotton candy.
The animation ends with them going into the city and them leaving the fair, so, *technically*, this would make more sense if it WAS taking place in a Snowgrave run.
But that is scary and sad so I imagine Susie going "Shit, this is the wrong way" and the two of them running back into the fair right after it fades to black.
It would be sad otherwise 🥲

This should be canon. If characters split up like this again, these kind of scenes would be a good reward for recruiting everyone on a pacifist run.

I entirely expected to animate this and let my drive to work on these cutscenes die out, but it seems like I managed to make a lot of people smile with this.
I think I'll start work on a new one soon, thank you all for re-igniting that drive :)
Fun fact: A lot of the lines in this were taken directly from things my girlfriend and I have said/done. We often joke that Toby is living in our walls and basing these characters off his birdwatching of us.
All the support this has gotten has only reaffirmed my theory, and I will be breaking a hole in my wall very soon.

Well, Ralsei canonically taught Susie how to use healing magic at that time. Does that happen later in your animation's course of action?
Kinda actually!
I had a whole sequence thought out about how Ralsei would teach her how to heal, but the setting was so removed from the rest of the ideas I had that I scrapped it.
I might make some sort of prequel/part 2 to this video one day and have that explained haha.

This is genuinely the sweetest thing I've seen in months. Two friends opening up to eachother about their insecurities and emotions just feels so great to watch. I was kinda doubting Ralsei's status as my favorite Deltarune character, but after watching this, there's no question. I'm so grateful I watched this.
This video is also hysterical, like the mustard, and the Sushi creation (the art of Susie that Ralsei paints on the wall is called "Sushi" in the files)

I would say that makes him interesting. There's also the whole magical dark castle with things waiting in it that he doesn't even know about.
or at the very least, hasn't told us about. We really don't know how long he was waiting there or what it was like... did he have family at one point? what happened to them? was he always alone? what's his backstory? how does he know the prophecy? was it told by his parents? where are his parents?
Are you trying to say he's shallow? a very one dimensional boring character? that doesn't sound like one to me.

Great animation! I would like to see a similar story but with Susie and Lancer when they were off screen doing "evil things". Or the story about Berdly and Noelle when they were forced by the Queen. It's would be interesting to see this storys by your view side
Really? Did you really have to do this? Did you really have to go and animate such a damn wholesome scene? A scene that fit in both style and characterization, using small details and jokes that enhanced the overall experience? Did you really have to make my night a good one with this?

I actually ended up using After effects for the whole project. Maybe not the best program to use, my scene was near impossible to navigate at the end hehe.

Pacing felt a bit off but otherwise this was REALLY GOOD.
I'm surprised at how in-character the characters are, since a lot of people usually don't go through that kind of effort when portraying Undertale or Deltarune characters.

Easily my headcannon of what happened when they split up, its so cute and in-character. I love this so much.
Something I love about Deltarune is how great some of the fan made content for it is, animations like this one match the art style perfectly and the characters are acting exactly how they honestly feel like they should.
Like if this showed up in a later chapter as a flashback it wouldn't seem out of place in the slightest.
Is nobody gonna talk about how Ralsei blushed when Susie said that?

You didn’t make this more fanon than canon, you took their canon concepts, personalities, and even their relationship towards each other straight from what we know from the game! Thats what makes this so good, you made it accurate to their characters, that way we can see this being a real interaction. Good work!

I saw people in the comments discussing when this would take place during actual chapter 2, so I'll give my thoughts.
I'm guessing because of how rushed Susie seemed to be to find the last mini-doughnuts (and somehow knowing they were the last) this animation doesn't take place right after Susie took Ralsei away from the intersection where they split off from Kris. This would also explain why they weren't eating cotton candy from somewhere Kris and Noelle were able to see them, as well as why the healing magic wasn't taught on-camera.
I'm going to guess that, in canon, Kris and Noelle's trek through the city isn't exactly a speedrun. It's probably significantly longer than even a first-time player's experience with that section. There should be plenty of time for this animation to fit in nicely between what we see in the game. We only see a few scenes, after all.
Also, like everyone else is saying, this very much fits Deltarune. I can see this being a real interaction.

I do actually see Susie and Ralsei interacting with each other more when they're on their own and it does show in chapter 2 that these two opened up to each other once they reunited with Kris.

Last time I remember such moment, is when I have spent money to an original drawing that was selling in a drawing artist stand, at a Manga convention, like 3 years ago before covid would start. I remember that guy... hugged me, because he never felt so happy about that, and I couldn't elude in play Friendship music in my head. I will never have such moment in my life.
