  • Here are 9 cool differences between Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for Gameboy and the original Super Mario Bros. Some are subtle, other less subtle but still not that known (we ourselves ignored many main features of this portable edition of the classic game).
In the Deluxe edition lava and water are animated, more sound effect have been added, Warp Zones in challenge mode are redesigned, etc.

Peach kneeling/getting on her toes to adapt to Mario's hight, what a great detail. Somehow had never heard of this. Then again, SMBD is often forgotten when discussing that era of Mario games.

      Old Nintendo did that regularly.
New Nintendo doesn't care shit and rerelease old games full price without improvements. Sometimes there are even bad changes. Like forbidding GameCube Controller features in Super Mario Sunshine. Although the game's controls were designed with GameCube Controllers in mind.
One exception is Wind Waker, where they improved controls and made the Triforce search less tiring. Still full price though.

      @dolomite1067 Před 23 dny +2

You say that like they didn't just release the Paper Mario remake that added a bunch of small additional animations, sound changes, small features, and completely changes a lot of the dialogue to better fit the original Japanese version. I get what you mean, but just terrible timing though to prove your point. @@Haymdahl

@@dolomite1067 For Paper Mario Remaster, they worsened dialogue and sound and it's full price for an old game. Another perfect example of my point.
Super Mario RPG Remake is a good example. The graphics are enhanced tremendously and for sound, one can choose between new and original. That's how it's done. Still full price for an old game though.

Idk why but SMB Deluxe always seemed to be the Super Mario Advance version of SMB1, at least to me. They don't have the All Stars Art Style and Graphics but that what makes it special, this one is dedicated to the OG Super Mario Bros Game, with small features, a world map and extra animations, it's so beautiful. @MlopsFunny: is correct Super mario advance for the GBA was originally suppose to be Super mario bros. 2 Deluxe for the game boy collor with the NES graphics, and then Super mario advance 4 was suppose to be Super mario bros. 3 Deluxe, and then Super mario advance 2 should have been Super mario bros.4 Deluxe, also, when they where working on Super mario bros. 2 Deluxe it would have only been done when Japanese already got the GBA, so that is why it got change to the all-star graphic and Super mario advance and also that is a good thing, because Super mario bros.3 become Super mario advance 4 with the e-reader level as the last one. if it would have stay Super maro bros.3 Deluxe for game boy collor no e-reader level since it would not be the last one.

It's really impressive just how many improvements Super Mario Bros. Deluxe added compared to the original 1985 game such as more animations, sound effects for certain enemies, a world map, Mario/Luigi destroying a Castle after defeating its Boss, Luigi getting his own, unique, palette swap colors rather than just having it be both his default, and Fire clothes, etc.! My favorite of all these however is Peach standing on her tippytoes when she kisses Big/Fire Mario/Luigi, I just LOVE seeing her shoes in all their 8-bit glory! 😉 Definitely had a lot of memories with the Game Boy Color remake of this classic game (hard to believe it's already been 25 years since SMBD first came out too... God, I'm old)! 🥰 Maybe you'll do future comparison videos between Super Mario Bros. (1985), and its 1999 GBC remake (if there ARE anymore comparisons to do so, that is), or even just show off all the new stuff Deluxe added over its OG counterpart! Either way, another excellent comparison video, Looygi! 👍

That’s because it’s based on the NES version.

That does make sense but the nes version doesn't make any noise in the first place plus it has a different design in smm and also the beta of Mario maker has a similar design to the smb1 trampoline but still small like the final as a fun fact

I played the deluxe version non-stop when it came out. I'm always shocked that people have either never heard of it or that it just never gets brought up because it's definitely me a fantastic version of the original game

Those notable differences are great. I still love Super Mario Bros. Deluxe though, and those improvements and fantastic features are Deluxe fantastic.

Toad's jumping may be a reference to the jumping Toads in SMB3. when you are in the King's room in each kingdom.
Also, something interesting, Luigi had that weird color pallete to make it easier to tell them appart in the first Mario Bros Game, that had 2 players on screen. Only after the 1st Super Mario Bros game they started to play around with his colors, tough the Nes limitations on colors and sprite size made it hard.

I remember when I was a kid I begged my mom to buy me this game. I thought Mario and Luigi looked so cool on the cover of the Deluxe version. .
Then I was so disappointed that they looked nothing like the cover. I was like “wait a minute, this is the NES version of Super Mario Bros. for game boy!”
I still played the shit out of it. I was obsessed with finding the princess.

Just incredible how nintendo was able to not only add new things to SMB DX as well as adding small touches to it but how they even solved new problems with it like for instance i never knew about those changed rooms at the end of those underground levels as a replacement of those warpzone rooms in challange mode wow, in fact i have never asked myselfabout it how and what untill now when i realize that nintendo had to change those things to get around that.

It's quite strange to launch a game with graphics from the early 1980s in 1999, at a time that was in the N64 era, and the beginning of the GCN/GBA era was just around the corner. People at that time might think it was very old.
Either way, it's one of the best "Deluxe" games there has ever been.
Even though the screen resolution is much lower compared to the original, it is still an incredible and fantastic remake.
And many details of this remake, I didn't even notice.

It would be so cool if someone had the technical know-how to convert Game Boy Color games into NES games, just like how people in the Sega Master System community converted Game Gear games into Master System games...

Also, sucks the Lakitu's behavior wasn't fixed in here.

    - Great Video!
    - Same goes to Super Mario Advance 2 (6:16)
    - Can you do the difference between the SNES & GBA versions of Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA), 3, World & Yoshi’s Island?

Now I feel upset that I looked at Super Mario Bros. Deluxe on the 3DS eShop, and thought, "No, maybe not. I've played the original, so I don't think I need that one."
*Sigh.* It looks like it would have been fun and rewarding. Oh, well. At least I get to see it today.
