- This stunning short walk takes in some of the best natural features in the village of Rydal including its picturesque lake, nearby caves and the iconic waterfall.
Beginning at the pay and display car park the route heads up the hillside to Rydal Caves first. Dug about 200 years ago, the caves are actually old quarries and make an interesting, albeit short delve underground. From here a short descent takes you to the lakeshore path to enjoy the views to Nab Scar across the water. Lastly there is a short section out and back to Rydal Falls and the iconic Grot, a purpose built viewing house for the waterfall built in the 17th Century.
Distance: 4.82km
Ascent: 103m

Wow, the Rydal Caves look incredible!! 🤩 Definitely adding that to my travel bucket list. The old slate quarry vibe is so mysterious and cool! 🪨⛏. Looks like you had a blast exploring despite the crazy wind💨. Thanks for sharing this awesome adventure! 👍
Defo add to your list! Easy to get to and so many things to see nearby too!
