Scott thanks for this video. It is helping me a lot on my research. Do you know what brand panels Tesla used for you?
We really wanted a Tesla Solar Roof. Not the panels, the full roof. The quote we got from the Tesla approved contractor was over 220k. But they said we get 30% off 🤨. Right around 2000sq/ft ranch house.
Shame. Good product. Seems like the 30% tax break has become a way to fleece.
O no way. Why on earth would someone pay 220k. How is that even feasible it would take 20 years to see return on investment
I am curious to know how many panels you installed and how much the entire installation cost you using Tesla.
I go into that in this other video. czcams.com/video/iIfBQnG5n-A/video.html
I have 24 x 340W panels. When I ordered two years ago the pricing was $2 per watt, total of $16400. The powerwalls were $8500 each. I go into the tax credit and other incentives in that video, and break down the return on investment.
Is the tax credit like it is with the Inflation Reduction Act when you buy a car and it’s deducted right from the cost of the system? My concern is if one doesn’t have taxable income. thanks for your input
You do need taxable income for the tax credit. It's not deducted at point of sale, you have to claim it on your tax return.
@@ScottAllisonAlso, the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for solar and energy storage systems can be carried over to future tax years if you don’t have enough tax liability to claim the entire credit in the installation year.
Perhaps you could give the link to the IRS website that gives the details, like the number of years you can carry the tax credit forward if you don't use it in filing year one.
just got a quote for 22kw for $240k on 4000 Sq/ft roof before tax incentive ,does this sound right ? i expected the higher cost vs. the panels, but not 150% more, so little sticker shock
At that price it must be for the solar roof rather than solar panels. They're a fraction of the price.
This is a re-post. Critter guards are pictured by Tesla. Why were your panels installed so high off the roof? Your Solar stops working when the grid goes down? This was not elaborated.
Yes, this video has been updated for 2023. The original one is from 2021. If you just have solar panels when there is a grid outage your solar also stops working. This is so it doesn't send power back to the grid, which would be unsafe for line workers.
I installed Tesla Solar with powerwall 3 with high expectation, and got permit to operate in June. After several weeks of usage, powerwall stopped working, no solar production. I called Tesla for support, the person said he needed to escalate to tier2 support and would take 2-3 weeks! After a week without solar and paid extra dollars to PGE for AC during the hot summer, the system worked again miraculously, no idea why.
In the mean time, they called me to schedule an on-site visit, guess when, in mid November 4.5 months from now. After the system came back to life for a week, it broke again. I called Tesla to follow up the tier2 support and this time they said it would take 3-4 weeks. It is in limbo now. All I got from Tesla support is million of apologies, no action. Cost is only part of the consideration, be prepared to deal with the crapy support when the system not working.
I'm so sorry to hear what you've gone through. That's totally unacceptable. I will say my system hasn't had any issues so I've not experienced their after sales support (or lack of).

Sure, I can do that. All numbers I give are accurate.
What’s misleading?
