And here I am in Europe, studying medicine and being able to live (well) on 950€ (around 1075 USD) per month (including food and outings and everything else you need) 😳 i knew housing was expensive on the other side of the atlantic. But I had literally no idea...
The United States is a huge country. Manhattan is one of its most expensive metropolitan centers. You can move to rural Iowa, where I was a university professor, and rent a 4 bedroom house for 700 dollars.
Spunkymunky Yes, I am aware of the fact that the US is huge. What I meant is that I definitely don‘t live in a rural area in Germany (actually a federal state capital in the centre of the city) and my housing cost is (for a 3 bedroom flat) less than a fifth of what you have to pay in NY. If I chose residential living (even though that works different here) I would pay even less.

Love the apartment. Is very well organized and clean. Not minimalist empty but organized-clean. My own apartment is 100 sqf smaller and I didn't buy a lot of furniture to make it easier to clean.

Alexandria Roberts I have friends that live in Dallas mainly the Denton and Mckinney areas and they literally pay 800 for these super cute apartment complex’s with pools and all these extra amenities. While im here in NYC paying about 1800 for a crap apartment in a horrible neighborhood. 😒 really considering moving to Texas.
jocelyndollface those places are quite far from Dallas. I live in Plano in a luxury 1 bedroom and it’s like $1k a month for a 1 yr lease.

I don't get how she's affording that on resident salary. If she's making 60k a year then she's spending wayyy over half of her total income on rent?
Thank you for this, I'm going through a gruelling hunt but your tour gives me an idea of what I may be looking for - I mean, I wouldn't get it from watching a make-up artists' house tour, v. different lives v.different interests v.different homes v.different people!

I hope this isn't too intrusive, but how did you afford to live in the city during college/early med school, any extra jobs you had to work? I'm only asking because I know that residencies on average tend to only pay 60k for the first years? Thank you again and awesome video as always. :)
Age I can’t speak for her, but they often give you enough loans to pay for rent and other living expenses during med school based on the area your school is in. Most schools do not let you to work an extra job, but sometimes they do. This was her extra job. Hope that clears things up.
ONLY 60k?! I'm in the UK. and junior drs are 28k in the first year and 32k in the second! Only when you specialise do you earn 38k, and max 49k
567Katii we also don’t have healthcare and our schooling is much more expensive as the only way to pay for it is either out of pocket or with loans and depending on where you live housing + loans builds up reallly badly and there really aren’t many loan forgiveness programs that don’t involve you either working in the military or for the government with low pay

Having binged on a lot of these NYC apartment tours, I can safely say that your 1-bedroom is the largest and nicest one I've seen so far for under $3,000/mo. You really lucked out.

Something I've always wondered about healthcare workers and wanted to ask is why they go to the grocery store, restaurant, etc wearing their scrubs after a shift (I can confirm this from working in restaurants & talking with customers who were getting off work); ANY other excuse besides convenience? Can they not change in the restroom before ducking out of work? I see it as a genuine public health concern, carrying germs from hospitals to & fro, but I've never heard anyone mention/talk about this.

Hey! I got my oboe-lamp question answered!! We have that playing-oboe-in-high-school thing in common!! I sometimes wax nostalgic for it when I hear an oboe solo in a symphony. I wonder if you have that happen sometimes when you turn on that lamp to read by.

It’s been hard for me to get any responses but I’m still trying
idk about research or any academic stuff like that but generally, for business emails, you want to keep it as short as possible but it should still be compelling and grab the readers attention

Cats are not “dirty”. They just shed a lot so you gotta vacuum and dust. Just keep it clean like you would if you didn’t have a cat?
I have 2 cats and I live in an rv so an even smaller home :) the biggest thing to keep clean is to scoop the cat box every day, vacuum daily, and I brush my cats like once every week or two so they don't shed as bad. My house is never messy because of the cats and never smells like a home with to many cats lol :)

Why don't the hospital offer you a housing stipend? Hospitals at the bay area gives you loads of housing stipend. Stanford provides 7200 dollars per year and UCSF 12000 dollars. NYC should do the same

Wow very expensive compared to where I live! Is that normal for New York? I live in Australia and my mortgage is less that half that for a house. Anyway a interesting video, great to see other houses or apartments in other parts of the world 🌎

How can you work in 2 hospitals if u r a 2nd year resident?
P.S just a curious 3rd year medical student. 🤔
The graduate program she must be under must be affiliated with multiple hospitals. Thus you get to rotate in multiple hospitals.
The hospital I work at has three separate hospitals. A pediatric, a mother/baby, and a adult level 1 trauma center. Residents work at each one.
A lot of the hospitals in nyc have multiple locations, it’s possible she has to go to two locations due to the specific hospital she’s working at
