It was around 2004, i got a call and asked to be a second enginer on a project for a band called "the Wedding Present", used to be "Cinerama", I had never heard of them. Yet after those sessions I will forever remember them, not only for great music, but great people, that wouldn't let their lives be dictated by the music biz....lots of love and admiration for them..first time I've heard this song since then, interstate 5 , for you that don't know. Interstate 5 runs from Washington State thro CA
20 years from George Best to this masterpiece. Followed them every step of the way. Fantastic band. And possibly the greatest music video of all time. Thanks.
20 odd years later, from their initial break, he proves,if he needed to, what a songwriter he is. thanks david for countless but well spent hours listening to you craft....and this song does you pround old son
I bought the track a few years ago, but it is the only one I know by them. It's one of the most perfect songs I know and the video, while simple, brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for this!
Was on a low budget holiday with me other half in Iceland about 10 years ago. At breakfast turned around and it was 'The Wedding Present' sat on next table..!! Said how much I like this song. Top friendly band that need more credit...
I, too, nearly fell over when I saw this ad on a recent trip to LA. My wife and I flew across the country to catch the final show of this tour in LA before they returned to Europe.
Dave RUles, I love this song, I remember first hearing it, then live thinking, this is dark, really dark. Most of thier stuff, though bleak, is in almost all cases light hearted, and a good way to cover the painfull subject matter. This one, written in the minor key, was a real change. LOVE IT. First few secconds here, I thought it might have been Sally in the vid. WE all miss her right?
I was listening to The Wedding Present, and thought I'd look for some songs from "Watusi", with limited success. Then I listened to some more TWP I have, and this song came on...so I figured I'd look for it here. Here I am. Great video! I too shall be posting this on my Facebook account. The version I have is the extended version, which is pretty sweet, but this is grand as well.
Great video. I thought I'd be seeing bits of LA given that there is no Interstate 5 in Britain but the running woman made me forget about the literal title and matched the feel of the song's driving rhythm and longing tone brilliantly. I enjoyed the outtake companion piece too.
Thanks, great comment. I never intended to reflect the lyrics literally... Mainly because of the budget! But yes, I avoided any driving of cars too. As soon as I heard the track I envisaged someone running throughout the entire piece, driving it on. Great track to work with.
Is Newport where the Ferry goes from? (Or went from?) If so we shot there yes but only the bit where the waves are crashing over. Which bit do you mean? If you tell me which bit Ill tell you exactly where it was shot mate. Cheers. Youre probably right!!

It's shocking good. After so many years hearing this song, it's still moving. In a word, timeless.
One of the best songs I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. TWP are our class.
I bought the track a few years ago, but it is the only one I know by them. It's one of the most perfect songs I know and the video, while simple, brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for this!
Love this song and video. Saw them in Wellington, New Zealand 10?years ago. Great band.
TO COME BACK AFTER SO MANY YEARS WITH A FANTASTIC SONG LIKE THIS, JUST SHOWS, TWP CAN GO ON MAYBE FOREVER
Video artistry in it's purest form - taking a great song and making it even greater.
A classic that will stand the test of time.
+retrotechnical I can only say thank you to such a flattering review. Very kind.

a masterpiece, truly
awesome video!
newport has got a dock and there have been many ferries. but it's not that part i'm talking about,it's the moorland.
Great video. I thought I'd be seeing bits of LA given that there is no Interstate 5 in Britain but the running woman made me forget about the literal title and matched the feel of the song's driving rhythm and longing tone brilliantly. I enjoyed the outtake companion piece too.
Point pleasant Wandsworth has changed so much since this video . Lots of posh high raised flats .
