Sounds like you have a bad OS. You may need to do a recovery.

Hi - To re-install Catalina do I have to move the Macintosh HD - Data partition anywhere first? Does it only refresh the Macintosh HD partition of the hard disk?

For that model, Hold down Command-Option/Alt-R and press the Power button.
My Mac might be 2007 model either one what about that one
I tried cmd r and I hold it until the Apple logo came up. And then the start up indicator symbol is going to the left and the uploading symbol showing me that it is going to start up, but it stops after more less 70%. For how long should I wait until there is no point to wait anymore? Can it take more than 1 hour? It seems like there is nothing happening? That the uploading get locked at 70%.

How long did you give the computer when the Apple Logo appeared? It can take some time.

Hi I have problem as my MacBook 2017 recently had the black screen of death and now resets always into Recovery Assistant.
It works thru HDMI on tv in recovery assistant but after resetting password and restarting it goes to screen that doesn't show up on tv and no keys are lit while you can hear the computer is running. I'm at a lost as restarting SMC or PRAM brings up recovery assistant on tv but nothing after restarting.
Sounds like you will need to reinstall the OS with these methods.

Hi HelpCloud team, I formatted my MacBook Air 2019 because its was running odd and slow. Thing is I’m able to see the disks at the side bar (disk utility menu), and they aren’t showing any issues once “first aid” is ran, however, when I try to reinstall Catalina (Reinstall macOS menu) it sending me the error “downloading installer information to the target volumen failed”. I have been struggling with this problem for a while, hopefully you can help me on this.

It will typically download it from the net.

Of course I restored from a backup after upgrading to catalina and downgraded back to sierra due to software incompatability. Interestingly, I didn't do it fully correctly so my recovery partition is now a catalina recovery as opposed to sierra recovery. Should I be concerned about that? What won't work with my mac?

What if reinstalling macos or repairs don’t work because of the volume mismatch error. So many people have this issue but no videos on it? Is it just unfixable or?
My Mac is 5 years old and tired so today it started up with choose language instead of the regular login screen. My question is if I choose language and proceed from there will all my files be lost? I did click on R and command and when the apple logo shows I stop. The problem is that it kind of freezes at this stage. It does not load. It stops at this stage and never load (not even allowing me to reset the mac - I have a 2015 macbook pro A1502) any suggestions? Thank you in advance! It also turns on normally but blocks at boosting.

Help needed. After power outage I have the flashing folder, I started in recovery mode and found the HDD has been corrupted and shows as unformatted. I tried to use Terminal to download “Testdisk” but it didn’t work.
Can I create a USB or CD boot volume with testdisk on it or some other software to recover my patitions. Thanks👍

No, no help. The disk utility does not show disk when selected, so I can’t run any repair. I don’t work on mac, only Windows PC’s. So a little out of my depth.
The mac shows the Seagate 1TB drive in recovery mode at the top left, details show that SMART has failed and the disk is unformatted, and I think this is the reason it doesn’t display when select. I want to recover files I have on it, then replace it. Thanks

Thank you so much for the easy to follow video; I was able to reset one of the iMacs that will be up for sale; it didn't work for my other iMac, which I intend to sell as well; that one won't go to disk utility, but straight to Internet Recovery and after about 15 minutes it only shows the infamous exclamation point for Apple Support 'with code "-21 06F"; it seems the hard drive has been completely erased, including the start up; it does have a hard drive but the Mac won't see it; is there anything I can do, besides replacing the hard drive? What year of Mac is the one that you are having trouble with?
@@HelpCloud It's a 2011 iMac A1311; I just recently got it; I believe whoever had it wiped the hard drive in a wrong way and wiped even the startup part

I was having the File with the Question mark popping up. Tried repairing the disc and it didn't work so I used an external hard drive to reinstall OS X. I wasn't able to backup my files beforehand though. Wondering if there's still a way to recover the files I had that were on the startup disk that I'm having issues with.
If you used the same drive, those files are probably overwritten.

@@HelpCloud no. The one that looked promising was 2nd option to reinstall which opted for pressed reinstall and of course I agreed to all terms and pressed install and it just stayed there with the install box highlighted but nothing …. Only a beach ball
If I use alt/option + command + R the progress bar starts to load and then the computer shuts itself down. When I use Shift + Option + Command + R it starts to load and then the computer shuts itself down as well. When I do Command + R the progress bar appears but even after several hours of “loading” it never opens up disk utility. I’ve had a ton of Macs but I’ve never had the issue where no matter what I try Disc Utility will never load. Any help would be very much appreciated =)

I’m having some major issues with my Mac it’s in a constant restart loop after I login it starts loading the desktop icons and opening my Calendar and Mail and then it shuts off. I’ve done disk utility maintenance on the Macintosh HD drive multiple times thinking that would help. What doing any three of these options in this video cause me to lose data?

You may need to format it into a usable drive. Open disk utility and check if you see it in there.

OS X Base system is the recovery, once you get into reset my mac, you should be able to use that as a recovery.

@@HelpCloud I've tried command+R, I've tried option/alt, command+R, and tried Shift, option/alt, command+R... for some reason none of those bring up Utilities mode, or reboot, etc... just brings up Apple logo, loading bar, and after a few seconds goes to sign in screen, and finally to the official home window. I don't understand. It is a MacBook Pro, only a few years old, but won't boot to utilities. Battery is at 58% and charging.
