A Croat here. I've been to Bulgaria 13 years ago with some Croat friends. One night we're drunk and driving in a tram through the center of Sofia - trying to get to our hostel on Macedonia Bulevard.
We were wondering out loud if this tram would actually take us to Macedonia Bulevard. (No smartphones/google maps back then! - at least we didn't have it.)
Suddenly the tram stops.
The driver approached us and started yelling that there is no Macedonia only Bulgaria!
We tried to explain but he just went back to the driver seat and continued to drive.
We got out at the main train station and asked some street hookers for directions. They were kind and told us how to get to our destination. We gave them couple of cigarettes.
In the dead of night, without much street light and being followed by stray dogs we somehow managed to find it. Then we opened another bottle of wine to celebrate our happy return.
Ahhh Bulgaria.
What is "Macedonia"?
Probably the most Bulgarian story ever

How easy did you find it to talk to people? Glad you liked it here 😎
@Steezy well, from what I've observed, Bulgarians (atleast those from Sofiya) tend to show a "distant/cold" look, which might intimidate you in engaging contact. But once you actually engage conversation and are respectful, this "distant layer" disappears immediately and people turn out to be very warm and cheerful usually.

Thank you for this brilliant guide of my country! You're 100% right. I'm glad you liked it when you came here. 🇧🇬❤
im a finn and ive never been to bulgaria, but its one of the best countries if not THE best in my opinion. i really want to visit it so bad
We still remember you during the war and have a Helsinki sq. name in Sofia and.....ironically Hesburger hahahahah
this is actually really accurate and i had a good laugh with all the memes. i don't vibe with stuffed veggies but the salads here are amazing. there's likewise a lot of turkish influence from when we were slaves for them for 500 years and i have to say, kebabs AND doner kebabs are bangers. there's also banitsa which is like a breakfast meal and ayran goes very well with it. apart from the cuisine, bulgaria has a fair amount of mountains big or small as far as the eye can see. for beaches, my family has always gone to kiten on holidays and perla is our favorite beach to go to. other places i've visited are tryavna which is an old village in the gabrovo region that still keeps its beautiful architecture from the 9th century kicking. it's such a beautiful and old country that i grew up in and it's sad that it's gradually falling apart ever since the fall of communism. oh and, as a yambol citizen, i am proud to live in yambol and not sliven. yambol e grada! 🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬
As a half indian, half albanian, half bolivian, half Jamaican , I can confirm that I'm proud being a Bulgarian🇧🇬 😊
