To really hear Chris Robinson and the Black Crows take you to church you need to hear the song "Seeing Things" from their first album. Do the studio version. The church organ sound and his vocals are amazing.
I love that Darius got to do this. Seen him in concert where he sang sang this song, and told a story that this song is what inspired him to write "Let Her Cry".
Preacher, Preach! This also reminds me of church when my Pastor is reaching the end of his sermon and he begins to punctuate the words in song and short bursts and them elongates them to a full throated song 'n growl to reach the heavens and your deepest soul and by the time it starts to finish, people are standing, replying and shoutin out in so good old, deep down southern Baptist praise to the Lord! Can I get a witness in here?
Chris is completely Southern Rock Soul... and the "someone she has not met, not yet" was a reference to heaven/Jesus/God.. and the "not yet" is almost a warning for her pending future tied to her addiction... the "pain gonna make everything alright" could easily be interpreted as the sting of the needle going in.
@@rowanmayfair9249 damn... that is a perfectly reasonable interpretation that I NEVER considered in all the years of listening. In fact that can completely change the song overall... props.
This interpretation has been confirmed by Chris Robinson. In one interview, Robinson plainly stated that the track is about a “goth girl” who was “into heroin.” The character in the song comes from a real person he was acquainted with. Robinson “made up” the parts of her life he didn’t know firsthand in order to create a “sincere relationship to a dark subject.”
There is another great clip from this concert of them singing Darius' song "Let Her Cry" which you previously reacted to. A little backstory - When Darius was lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, he heard "She Talks to Angels", which inspired him to write "Let Her Cry." A real full circle moment. I created a playlist simply entitled "Addiction" and both songs are on that list. Since the sixties, there have been a lot of powerful songs about addiction, like "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf, "The Needle and the Damage Done" by Neil Young, and "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. I think the cross and "Someone She has Not Met" must refer to Jesus; isn't that what a cross represents? Perhaps another reference to her closeness to death?
@@geoffsimpkins7650 I'm envious man. He's one of my favorites. Two albums in the 90's that made a great impact on me were "Cracked Rear View" by Hootie and "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette.
You gotta watch the official video for this song. Any song from 80'sn early 90's you gotta watch the videos. Bands back then would pay more for the video for one song than they would on whole production of the Album.
@@brittreacts It's all good Britt, and I really enjoy your channel and those like it. Just some good-natured poking fun was all my intention was. I have to keep in mind not everyone comes with an encyclopedic knowledge of music history, and may indeed be hearing artists and their works for the very first time. You keep doing what you're doing, and bear with us fussy ol' guys who have been around since dirt! LOL God bless!
You really need to react to Mike Farris singing "Mercy Now." That man has as much soul in his voice is anyone I've ever heard in my life. The best version is from a program called Music Fog. You won't be sorry
Prefer Black Crowes on their own. Loved them when they came out/hit the big time in late 80s I was a kid and bought the album(or recorded it off my mate on Cassette! 😂) Anyway fantastic band! Mid to late 80s was just phenomenal for Rock and Blues bands and ALL Artists who had TALENT! But honestly had the greats from the 60s n 70s still at their peak and new Bands like Guns n Roses Metallica etc what a time to be young! (I was too young really but I was ahead of my time! Lol) 😂😉😎🏴🇬🇧
I love Hootie......but this just doesn't HIT like the original Black Crows version.....Britt do yourself a favor and listen to the original Black Crows video....even if you do it on your own time.....Don't get me wrong but this song is soo far out of Hooties league its not even funny.
This is a Black Crowes song. This performance was a recent collaboration at a country music awards show.
thanks for the info!

Seeing Things from the Shake Your Moneymaker and Soul Singing from the Lions album are two of my favorites.
One of my favorite ones there
You really need to listen to the studio produced version of this song because this doesn't do it the justice it deserves
Black Crowes' "Bad Luck, Blue Eyes, Goodbye" would really show Chris' ability & soul.
I love Darius and Chris. I feel like Chris just put a lot of extra sauce on his vocals and I love extra sauce 😊❤
glad you enjoyed it!
I think the black crowes also did "hard to handle" which is one of my faves!
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
I love that Darius got to do this. Seen him in concert where he sang sang this song, and told a story that this song is what inspired him to write "Let Her Cry".
I. LOVE. THIS. SONG! Always have and Darius just makes it better! ♥️

Amen
Great song. Never saw this collab before. Love it! Thanks.
There are so many great collaborations from “CMT Crossroads”.
Highly Recommend: Keith Urban and John Meyer - Gravity and When Summer Comes Around

I heard Darius tell that story at a Hootie Homegrown concert in Charleston, too.
'Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead fits here.

Anything Black Crowes, I’m fuckin here
Chris Robinson - "The Other Guy", you know...the guy who originally sang the song. LOL
I will keep it in mind, thanks!

This would be a good song if the original studio version didn’t exist
"She tells you she's an Orphan.......after you've already met her family"

A metaphor for h addiction.
Oh have you seen the one where Blake Shelton is singing this yes…

LOL Britt......she's tells you she's an orphan....after she meets her family....thats what drugs do to your mind
Strong lyrics in this song. Telling someone you're an orphan, after you met their family? Ouch.
Please check out David Phelps. One of the best singers alive today. He will literally take you to church.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Hi lovely lady please listen to (Big Mountain Baby I love your way) or (Jim Reeves he he'll have to go) have fun
Cheating yourself seeing/hearing this if you haven't already done the original song imo.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Would be a lot less confusing if he just went by Hootie
This is weak . Please just do the original Black Crowes version
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
the original is way better.
I will keep that in mind, thanks!
I love Darius Rucker & love, love, love The Black Crowes. But this version, isn’t my fave.
That was fucking awesome.
