If you haven't heard by now, the Hidden Palace and TCRF have been dropping several new Sonic prototypes! So, in this video, first I'll be taking a look at the newly dropped Sonic CD Prototypes and talk about some of their notable highlights.

the Black Screen of Death does exist, and it displays when the system is corrupt from what I remember (all that appears is a black screen with a blinking DOS cursor, usually indicating that the system has been corrupted and is unusable)
change darker to better because that black screen's 1000 times better!

8:37 i think this might be remnants of a planned cutscene when travelling through time, originally they wanted the world to change around sonic but it was cut because of hardware limits

Yep, some early demos of games - for public reveals and playtesting - have the bare minimum that would be playable, while MUCH more was being added to the game back in the studio, but halfway through implementation.
This! they clearly had all other levels stripped out of the game, including R2. Also R=Round, glad that's cleared up.

Oh I've heard of Nat the Porcupine! They disassembled Sonic CD on their own, and created a guide on porting the extended camera to Sonic 1.

Just some ideas as to what it could be.
it looks more like stands in tunnel i guess. I mean, have you seen a mining tunnel? Have you seen these stands in them whic causes them not to fall off? They look like these stands. I think level designers concieved there a tunnel, through which you had to run quickly.

So, that object that makes the level change (or collapse), remember how CD's time travel was supposed to be seamless instead of having a transition/loading screen?
I think this object was supposed to be used to make the level switch around when time travelling

I think the black and white death sprite for sonic could have been used for the level R2 because no lava is present in the ENTIRE sonic cd final release

It’s interesting that Sonic CD just got prototypes revealed and didn’t get revealed before the release like Sonic 2.

The item that deforms the stage seems to me as the mechanic of the falling platforms with spikes in Metallic Madness, those you have to jump through the hole to avoid getting killed.

7:02 I think r2 could be in early version of sonic cd then v0.02 because of it being made just for sega world and not for development they didn’t need all of the other level because they weren’t playable and probably to free up space for the salad planes past song
You can also see r2 in the ending cutscene surely there has to be a somewhat playable version of it somewhere because the animators of the end cutscenes had to have seen it for source material for the cutscene

You forgot to mention that the Palmtree Panic Past theme in v0.02 is in Redbook/CD audio quality unlike the final version where it was made into a compressed PCM sample. Probably at this stage of development the whole soundtrack was supposed to be in CD quality.

im sure TCRF and HP will eventually get their hands on R2. a build has to exist somewhere.... as per your other vid, pretty sure sega wouldn't cut it before it even began design. sprites do exist... and as you say also the animation ending has a bit of R2 in it... I suspect liek you R2 is in a alter build before briefly being scrapped and based on what we know, I reckon it might look like marble zone (s1) / rusty ruins zone (S3d Blast). Excellent video as always - really enjoy these.
2:44 Not always. There was a chance that game will go back to the main menu screen
Maybe if the clock monitor was correctly implemented in the final version it should freeze time for a few seconds and the background would stop, enemies would also freeze, this could help to not take damage from enemies. Another theory I have is that if you took the monitor with a time travel card, you would travel instantly without needing speed.

I wonder, if sega gathered all the scrapped songs, content, abilities, shields, enemies and levels together; could it be possible to create a whole new game on that alone?
Some PC sonic 3 songs (recently discovered as polished prototype songs for genesis) would still be very useful as new encounter songs and levels. Let alone soni CD's scrapped level.

Btw can you try to do just shapes and beats next cause nobody has ever done a full video on looking at the unused stuff in that.
There was a clock thing in the 2011 remake in the special stage I read the manual like the whole thing which has white and gray checkered background.
6:44 it will also lead to a black screen as well, so it is unfortunately not completely playable, R3-2 and R5-1 takes you into a broken version of salad plain

Same with Sonic 2 I have heard 2 new prototypes and 2 final releases in hidden palace so i suggest make the video.
Maybe the 2 player mechanic could be controlling metal sonic and there could be a race mode where p1 and p2 can race in stardust speedway

The reason 0.2 prototype only has these 2 acts and nothing else is more likely because the game was specificaly stripped of any information that was unnessecary for the Yuusei Sega event. probably because they already had a case in which they had a sonic prototype stolen and they didn't want this to repeat again. the team probably had more levels being worked on at that moment. maybe even the legendary R2.
