=======================================
NASA Astronaut Group 8 was a group of 35 astronauts announced on January 16, 1978. It was the first NASA selection since Group 6 in 1967, and was the largest group to that date. The class was the first to include female and minority astronauts; of the 35 selected, six were women, one of them being Jewish American, three were African American, and one was Asian American.
Starting with this group, new selections were considered astronaut candidates rather than fully-fledged astronauts until they finished their training. The careers of the Group 8 astronauts would span the entire Space Shuttle Program.

There's Crip, who was pilot on STS-1 and commanded TWO Shuttle missions in 1985!
He was Commander on STS-7 June 1983 then also CDR on 41-C April 1984 and again on 41-G October 1984 only 6 months later. All three on Challenger. He was set to command the first launch from Van den Berg in 1986 and they were all there watching on tv the day the Challenger tragedy happened.
Chris C. Kraft absolute TITAN.
On behalf of all the fans of Retro Space HD and all the fans of spaceflight and astronomy, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving.
It's sad to see the faces of those who died in the Challenger disaster less than seven years later.
yep; Chris was there in the beginning..
So sad to see to see 3 members or challenger
God bless their souls.
