    Nice dusk flight. It's always enjoyable to watch the lights come alive as the sun goes down. Flying in nice smooth air can feel like you're on a magic carpet.

    Those motor mounts look a lot like what we use to hang instrument panels in smaller part 23 aircraft (piston poppers singles and twins). The ones I am familiar with are usually 8-32 or 10-32 (not usually larger but occasionally a 12-24 or 1/4-20) with threaded stud on one end and a threaded insert on the other side. The stud is what is affixed to the perimeter frame of the instrument panel and the instrument panel itself is affixed with screws through it and into the inserts molded into the rubber. ... If that is what they are, then they should serve you well for years. The ones I am familiar with are often responsible for insulating an entire instrument panels' delicate instruments from engine- and runway/taxiway-induced vibration, to include absorbing shock from hard landings. I've see as few as 4, but usually 6 to 8, used to support an entire stuffed instrument panel full of old electromechanical or vacuum driven instruments - read that as 'heavy af' - ranging anywhere from 5 to 20 # of shite. I strongly suspect that the torsion and tension loads imputed by a little electric motor with a prop thereon, being affixed using 4 of those mounts, is well below what those are rated for. Thank you for pointing this out. That is on my list of things to consider on future builds. :muscle:

    Are twin engines usually more efficient or single engines more efficient considering you have to power another motor with twin engines?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I really don't know... lol If I had to guess, I'd say a single would be more efficient if all else was equal. There's lots of variables to consider though, like weight and drag, etc. Most twins are tractors, so that's a plus. Tractors are generally more efficient than pushers just because the prop is running in "clean" air not disturbed by the plane in front of it.

    • @AerialWaviator
      @AerialWaviator Před 3 měsíci +1

      One of key advantage to twin motors is the elimination of torque roll tendency, so can have better handling. Torque is more an issue if using a bigger single motor, and larger propeller.
      For twin, power get's split between motors, so no real efficiency difference, assuming both using a well match motor/prop setup. (power curves for a motor might make some difference) The one difference is the added weight of a second motor and ESC, but this would be minor difference in total weight.
      Twins can often be quieter, as loading on the propeller disk can be lower (but depends on overall propeller area), but would depend on specific setup.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 3 měsíci +1

      This is a Walksnail WS-M181 M10 based GPS, and a single antenna V2 transmitter. That said I've also had great performance with a BN-880 on a plane with an original V1 VTX. A little separation goes a long way.

    Hey bonafide, finally got my Dolphin flying and tuned this weekend and dammit I wish I would have done this sooner as it fly's amazing. I am thinking of switching over from Vista to WS. Do you think the dual antenna HD version has better range/reception than the single antenna HD version?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 13 dny +1

      The Dolphin is a great plane isn't it? I have both the single and dual antenna V2 VTXs for Walksnail, and really haven't seen much difference in range between the two. There may be some cases where having two antennas is beneficial when one is blocked or something like that, but personally I'm happy flying either one.

      @@bonafidepirate Cool thanks for the quick reply, yeah it is much better than I expected. I have flown a handful of wings and the Dolphin is hands down the smoothest flyer. Mine has a Matec with INAV 7 and of course Vista but really want to capture the OSD which I haven't figured out how to do so I think WS is the answer. As I side note I was subscribed to you but some how YT un-subscibed me and I had a hell of a time finding you again, I thought it was strange I havent seen a vide from you, kinda pissed at YT. Good thing I remembered the Pirate part as I typed in RC pirate and you came right up.

    How does one control this? Which protocol? Could one fly this with, say, a Radiomaster Boxer, for instance? 😅

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Sure! I'm flying this one with a Radiomaster TX16S. I happen to have Dragonlink in it, but there's no reason any other R/C link won't work. I use Crossfire in some of my planes, ELRS in some as well.

      @@bonafidepirate Which model of this plane would I need to get for me to be able to use elrs? PNP? RTH? or the Kit?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@3nertia It depends. lol You'll need all the components in the RTH (assuming you want a flight controller), so unless you already have some of that you might go for the PNP instead. The FC board they include is pretty good, it's what I have in mine. You can run Inav or Ardupilot on it. Of course you'd still need your own ELRS receiver and whatever FPV system you want to use.
