I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo as a 4yr. old. I remember a carefree childhood with no one being shot up, we stayed out after dark and played games and no one ever locked their doors. Wow what a difference 60 years makes.
I loved this show when I was a little girl. I couldn’t wait for it to come on each morning ❣️❤️ Kids today need this show instead of the killing games they play. That teaches them more about shooting other people than anything!!
Captain Kangaroo was a wonderful show and I watched it daily during my childhood. I loved all the characters, you learned a lot of good lessons while being very entertaining, not preachy. It had the perfect mix of fun and learning, thanks in large part to the wonderful Bob Keeshan, our beloved Captain Kangaroo.
Yes I loved The Capt as did my children. Can’t blame the Captain for getting mad! We as an audience would never accept anyone other than Bob for this part as well as a new Mr GreenJeans. This program had so much more to tell children in today’s world. He is missed
I loved Captain Kangaroo growing up. I watched it everyday. When I started school, I looked forward to snow days, days off and SUMMER so I could watch it everyday!
I grew up with Captain Kangaroo, I was born 1957. It wasabi educational program. Thanks Captain Kangaroo and Mr Green Jeans. God Bless there Souls and May They Rest In Peace.
I seldom got to watch the whole Captain Kangaroo show, because I had to start out for school. Captain Kangaroo was a great consolation on days I had to stay home because of sickness. Those were the good old days when everything on T.V. was decent.
I was born the same year it premiered so grew up on the Show and have fond memories. Mr Grandmother was a pianist and used to play the opening theme song on her piano and gave me keys to jingle as if I were the Captain
We're happy to know that you have fond memories of Captain Kangaroo! Thank you for sharing your life story. Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Captain Kangaroo was my favorite show as a young child! Then, 10 years later, my sister grew up on Captain Kangaroo (and got me up to watch it with her)!
Years ago there was a comedian by the name of Brother Dave Gardner. He once said something that I feel fits this story, "Have you ever heard someone say let's do that again"? Once you do something you can't do it again; you can do something similar.
One thing nobody ever covers is why and how the six made-for-video shows from 1992 came about. They were released by View-Master Video (yes, the Kidsongs View-Master Video) in 1992 and that was literally how I (born in 1995) first heard of the show when I was a kid. Interestingly, the opening sequence to the videos repurposed the "Good Morning, Captain" animation, but was set to the classic long-unused "Puffin Billy" theme music. Even stranger given the TYCO View-Master Video logo at the beginning and part of the closing promo still used the Kidsongs theme (an instrumental of the song "I Got Wheels"). Aggravatingly enough, the few people who acknowledge their existence mistakingly believe they were made between 1972-1984, which is true for most of the segments, but obviously not the videos themselves.
Absolutely loved Captain Kangaroo growing up as a kid in the 60s! Oh my, what happened to all the shows that used to teach children GOOD values? Instead of violence and disrespect?
I used to watch it every morning in the late 50s before I even was in school and watched it well into the 60s even when I was a young teenager. What a great show.
Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Oh, okay he was the guy who testified about violent video games! I definitely remember that. Thought he was a bit of a curmudgeon lol but remember trying to find out about him and remember reading he was a beloved children's show host. I guess at age 70, or show, the reboot producers thought him too old? Or, perhaps thought they'd have to pay him too much? Using a complete unknown for the reboot guaranteed failure. Mr Green Jeans I read was also a beloved character on CK, as well. I would think a creative producer today could pretty easily adapt Captain Kangaroo to today's audiences and teach the values that Bob Keesan taught so well back then.
Boy Captian Kangaroo you're the only Kangaroo in my life as a kid...I can see why you became livid and proud you did it...lived all your characters...gosh missed your show, something like your rerun 4 our children...and the one thing you were on public television so us children who could not afford cable...could watch you...its a shame that the muppets put cash over kids when they jumped to HBO...sad but lots of prayers 4 you...🇱🇷🇱🇷🙏🙏🇱🇷🇱🇷
I watch the Captain and Mr. Green jeans from late 1950s on. I especially enjoyed the show during the holidays and when he had the trains all set up. He is missed today but I think he would only be popular with us old timers now. Times are different now.
ABSOLUTELY NEVER MISS A SHOW. EVERY SATURDAY MORNING THEY DON'T MAKE SHOWS LIKE THAT ANYMORE. THE 70S AND 8OS HAD THE BEST SHOWS. I CAN GO ON WITH THE BEST SHOW. IT'S UP TO US TO SHARE THESE SHOW WITH OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. WHICH I DO AND THEY SHARE WITH THERE CHILDREN. WHY DON'T THEY JUST BRING THE ORENGAL CAPTAIN KANG SHOWS BACK. I WOULD LOVE THAT❤
Tim Blane’s voice sounds like Leo’s voice in the Little Einstein’s games “Leo and the Instrument families” and “June’s big dance recital” but in a lower pitch.
I remember this show. I was a stable in my childhood and early schooling along with Sesame Street and The Electric Company. Of course back then these shows were more educational and wholesome and decent morals instead of the horrible morals that they do in today's time.
I didn't even make it through the first five minutes of the 1997 reboot. I had grown up with the original series. I was pushing 40 in 1997. When I saw the "All New" Captain, I was like, "That's not Captain Kangaroo!"
Captain Kangaroo was cut back to 30minutes because the head of news at CNS at the time wanted to e and CBS Morning News to 90 minutes. I remember reading about it in a magazine at the time. The news executive had some very derogatory comments towards our favorite tv captain.
Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
There was only one Captain Kangaroo; whether the character had run its course or not is irrelevant. Lovely video; one correction Bunny Rabbit (not "Mr.") and Dancing Bear were mute.
Captain Kangaroo will be rebooted as a horror movie as all our beloved classic childrens' shows & movies have, like Winnie The Pooh which is soon to be released as a horror movie. I think turning beloved classic kids' shows into horror movies is hilarious, but I do understand & sympathize with the original creators who oppose the idea.
I Used To Watch This Show. I Also Remember One Christmas. At Bush Gardens In Florida. They Had A Captain Kangaroo Show. & It Was A Stage Performance.& Also Played A Clip Of Captain Kangaroo. With The Captain & Mr Green. I Think His Name Was. I Took Some Pictures Of The Show. If Anyone Is Interested. I Could Upload The Pictures On My Facebook Page
The problem with so many reboots is that they try to reinvent the whole "flavor" of the show. In doing so, they lose the original feeling. Even classic adult & teen shows & movies like Starsky & Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard, Conan the Barbarian, Ghostbusters, Bewitched, Brady Bunch, Red Dawn, Charlie's Angels, The Shining, Magnum P.I., The Odd Couple, and the list goes on and on. (And, I didn't even get into the cartoons that they've ruined from our childhood memories!

You Bet. I have "Green Jeans" (along with my blues) that I wear in honor of the show, still today.
The"Captain"was only on CBS TV for 29 years(10/3/1955 to 12/8/1984).
Remember the show well
I watched the show in the 60's. Evertybofy I knew did.
I loved that show.

1:26: NO! Clarabelle had two horns. The YES was on his right side, and would honk cheerfully, the NO horn was on his left and sounded more flat.

As a kid in the 70s never got into Captain K. or Mr Rogers. I preferred cartoons to humans/puppets children programming.
Always freaked me out as a kid. He always looked kinda creepy and purvey.
He was 80 at the time of the reboot....
Why do you have to add the source for every photo and video
Yes that was tv back then not some of the trashy stuff that's on now R.I.P Captain

What I was thinking:
I would not be able to reprise my role, but I wanted to
What was my reaction?
Furious, very mad, livid
What I did?
Screaming, throwing small pieces of furniture
What my consequences were?

How I handled it:
Yelling at Saban and TLC to be sued for the reboot
What I could have done instead:
Just accepted that a new actor got the role and enjoyed the reboot
