I never wash off the old Fluid Film. I just coat the older dirty fluid film with new FF each fall.. Keeps my old Toyota Land Cruiser rust free even here in the rust belt.
I managed to halve the cost by buying larger cans of some dense FF variant, and thin it with petroleum spirits. Don't have a garage or compressor, so I use a 3D printed Venturi sprayer mounted on a small cordless blower. The thing has over 1,5 m of range, and seems like a perfect tool for closed profiles as well. Also, there are coatings that are dry to the touch, but never completely dry, and they work with FF (like a paint on primer).
BTW, other "downside" of FF is that it loosens hard layers of rust, so it sometimes turns OK-ish surfaces into holes. This is actually a good thing, but you can't wait with fixes anymore.
Great video, I tried fluid film and is was decent but corosion block is the best I've used. Been using it for 20 years. It's made by Lear chemical sonif you have heard of acf 50 same company just a little thicker. I have a log splitter that sits outside all year long in Canada and 10 years later it still looks brand new. Give it a shot

when you apply if for the winter, do you wash your car throughout the winter? I find myself having to reapply in the suspension/wheel well areas. Should I stay away from my wheels when washing the exterior? Or keep washing?
I don’t wash mine at all in the winter, it only helps remove it faster.
Washing the exterior is fine though
Have you Fluidfilmed inside the bottom of your doors? I've seen cars 5+ years start to rust from the inside out.

I do like your content - but I have to disagree on Fluid Film. Great product but Blaster Surface Shield is the better choice.
I’m not as big a fan of it, it hardens way too much imo. I don’t think it’s bad just not as good as FF. Thanks!
@@KurtofTrades That’s where I disagree. In my experience it doesn’t harden at all. Looks and acts just like fluid film but doesn’t wash off as easily. I did some tests with bare metal - I wish I could send you pics. Not saying FF is bad, I’ve just found SS to be better, especially when going over existing rust. I may even try doing a half and half mix of the two - Fluid Film Black mixed with Surface Shield (I spray with a compressor). We shall see.

As I recall Surface Shield did test better in another channel's long-term review ..cant remember which channel but he's prominent and testing rust proofing products is like his entire channel. It makes sense considering how much thicker SS goes on - and stays. It doesn't harden, as I can attest from spraying my car last year. It may be the case that fluid film is better for inside doors and places that won't get water/grime sprayed.
Great video and great advice. Ive heard different things about whether you should keep it away from brakes, or just don't worry about it and count on it burning off fnsone grts on the rotors. What's your take on that?
Thanks! I usually don’t spray the brake area or exhaust directly. It will burn off, but I wouldn’t want to gum up the brake pads. It’s probably fine either way though.

@@KurtofTrades because i take my car to a place to does the fiuld film under coating for me and they do also offer wash under car to get most of the salt off form last winter but it will cost me a extra 40 so is it worth it to do than also
