    To avoid damaging the part you have to loosen with a wrench, especially when the shower head has no flat surfaces, use a soft cloth beneath the wrench or pliers.
    Also, don't forget to wrap your Teflon tape clockwise (or the same direction as the threads as if you were tightening up the part)
    Thank you for the lesson! I am going to go try this on my new Moen handheld that was unbelievably shitty when I excitedly tried it out today! 😆

    Just bought a Moen at Walmart, a single shower head with 8 adjustments the most expensive one they carry, I had the same problem, it was a drizzle instead of a waterfall. I took that water restrictor out and what a difference, before this I feel like I was taking a shower in a hotel all this time . It's not your water pressure. Guys it's not the showerhead, it is that darn restrictor, I could not pull it out like he did, I did take a wood screw and gently screwed it in about a fourth of the way, and took some pliers and pulled it out, then went and hooked it up. HOLY MOLY what a difference. Thank you so much for this.

    Thank you. Just performed this hack. Since I moved into this house, I haven't had a REAL shower in 7 years. Now? It's like Kramer's black-market elephant washing head like on the Seinfeld Episode. I have a Moentrol valve which lets me adjust temp balance and pressure. Since the modification, I only need to pull the knob out about 25% of max, and it's a POWERFUL flow. Full blast might darn near take your hair off, but I like having the power in reserve. THANK YOU!

    Thanks so much! I have a moen A112.18.1m round shower head and had low pressure from day one. I called Moen and they said to try changing the faucet cartridge. Did that with no change. Pulled the shower head off and found that aerator clogged with a bit of teflon. I cant believe any water was flowing by with the O-ring and teflon. Pulled the whole thing out and a million times better. High pressure, lots of volume and the water even seems hotter. Best of all, no money spent!

    I have found that some of the newer 'restrictors' do two things: filter water calcium to a point its easier to clean and two channel water evenly internally so all the jets work. I had a large Moen Brecklyn head I took the restrictor out of and yes it did improve flow but after 1.5 years and high water calcium only about half the jets work. Leaving the restrictor in would have filtered some of it and been easier than soaking the entire head for days in CLR to dissolve calcium. When I used to run cheap-o heads when they got clogged I'd just toss out and hang a new one. JMO

    I did this this last weekend and the results were very noticeable. Even with our large-diameter Moen shower head, the water pressure was much higher. However, it gobbled up so much more water volume that we could not use the upstairs shower at the same time, and we only had enough hot water for most of one shower before going cold. Sadly I had to put the restrictor back in. Just something to think about if you have high-volume shower heads.

    I feel like they must make these so easy to remove because they know the restriction level is BS. My new shower head has a mode that restricts the water flow so you can have lower flow if you want. It barely dribbles water at all with the restrictor in place. But when i pulled it out it generates a nice soft broad spray. And i have super high water pressure at the wall.

    Great video, I might be wrong, but there seems to be a second restricter under the first one. I saw it on another video earlier. I took off my shower head off the hose and it had two inside it 😑 it takes forever to rinse out shampoo in our hair or when I wash the dogs.

    The little black o ring is actually a first stage restrictor, I couldn't get the green part out but with the black ring out we have loads of pressure.

      Andrew Bittle probably without the O ring the restrictor plate probably wasn't held in tightly so turned on its side. so that's why the pressure increased.

    My technique for removing flow restrictors is to get a 3" wood screw and screw it right into the plastic restrictor. Then grab the head of the screw and yank it out. No need for needlenose.

    @JohnSmith-kj1uz Před 5 lety +3

    The new Moen restrictor is red in color and does not have anything to grab on with needle nose pliers. All I did was screw a sheetrock screw into the middle of the restrictor and pulled it out that way.

    I know the shower sucks with the regulator and I see a lot of ppl saying it doesn’t save $ bc they take longer showers bc the water pressure is weak. BUT from a month of taking the regulator out and then putting it back in for a month the water bill was $15 higher without the regulator. I agree with the sentiment that low flow shower heads suck, BUT they do save $.

    • @motofun72
      @motofun72  Před 5 lety

      I agree. Try removing the o-ring instead, but leave the regulator in. It gives you a little more water but still restricts it.

    I live in an apartment where they have just "updated" my shower with new valve and trim that looks just like this, but newer. Only apparent difference is that it has "eco performance" on the shower head.
    This trim is restricted to work with only one valve and I think that valve is limited to 2.5 gpm and the head further restrricts it to 1.75. Do you know if I can achieve the same result by modiyfing the head as you have removing a restrictor, or even by replacing the head? Or am I doomed to those useless limp water streams? Do you know what valve you have in there? I dont understand how trim could be resticted anyway. Nor can have I yet found any clear indication of the water flow restrictions of the valve in my case (Moen 2510)

    What I would like to know is: are these water restrictors only in American showers, or do we Brits have them as well? Our flow is bad but I have searched all the piping up to and including the shower head, and I can't see anything that looks like those plastic things that people are removing.
