Wow ...there is hope for the Hybrid builds
i think there is.
@@KyleMohanRacing man, I really wanna build one! Excited to get some info on this, thank you!!!
Love this! Thank you for the input Sir! I would definitely love to see this revisited with a proper modern turbo and an even newer ECU with more features and more flexibility like a Nexus! :)
Following the build closely and building at the same time. Going with a your half bridge, street port, and race exhaust port templates. Haltech 2500 allowing full functionality of all stock Rx8 features and all the safety sensors and bells and whistles. For now stock intake. Garrett G42-1200 turbo, 2 turbosmart 40mm wastegates. Turbosmarr BOV. Iridium brushless in tank fuel pump. 6-2600cc injectors. Will be running E85. Currently waiting for rotors mods and balancing to come back. Will be porting housings and irons next week. Turbo manifold is completed. Working on fuel system now.
Which AR in the hotside are you planning to use?
I went with the 1.15
Can’t wait for more progress on this project!
Finally! I'm so exicted!
Love to see actual dyno numbers thanks. Still on the hunt to see an NA hybrid dyno.
Dyno numbers on the chart for turbo ish stuff.
@@KyleMohanRacing na? This engine interests me but would never get a turbo bolted to it.
@@devonswindell9735 The engine wont work without boost because there is exhaust and intake overlap.
thanks for the video, Kyle. Excited to see where this goes.
👍
I have always wanted to see someone do this! Awesome. Thanks KMR!
Thanks for the support
More good info. I would still like to see a solid NA build with dyno numbers, but my thought is that these hybrids are really going to open up under boost and will yield minimal gains NA.
me to, have a friend with one. just not running yet.
Been gathering parts in preparation of more info from Kyle. Glad he is so transparent about all of this. Gets me excited for future rx8 builds in the community
they can and do get more than that NA and without all the hybrid
the thing is you won’t get that out of either engine with sloppy used parts doing a half hearted home build. These are all hand-built and blueprinted to perfection professional quality engines.
This is a 230+ whp Renesis pro built engine (not a hybrid) with OE intake manifold and not ported either, likely by Daryl Drummond. His NA Renesis engines routinely made 270 bhp on a Superflow engine dyno. He’s mostly retired now:

THIS is what you swap into an RX-8 if you want more power. The fact a 1.3 litre motor with only 15psi can make 435 hp is crazy, even for a 2.6 litre!
Thank you Kyle
thanks for watching
Sick as bro. Building the dreams of many on Rx8 club lol. I ended up doing REW swap but always room for another Rx8 😜
How's the REW swap going?
I’m currently building a hybrid set up here in Western Australia for time attack/street use. The boys at Mazdatrix be awesome with parts and help with any questions I ask. Just waiting if my parts to arrive then hopefully by may she’s up and running.
What intake are you going to run?
Bit late but how’s your build going I’m from wa too and plan on trying to attempt a hybrid build. Did you get your rotor machined? If so where at?
Nice setup
Interesting. I've been going thru your videos about this build.
I've been getting ready to switch chassis to rx8. I have a decent amount of driving experience with rx8 when I was at Skip Barber.
Just wasn't happy with its output. I was gonna do LFX or some swap because I didn't want to deal with rotary.
But this is interesting. Also my buddy James that saw some of it said it was really good.
man if a hybrid NA did 300Hp I can definitely see it being a really good upgrade for the rx8 without having to go to rew
not simple, but i suppose it could be simpler and even cheaper (to an extent) than turbo hybrid.
Cant wait to see this engine come together
I think its possible, just not proven
Do you have more info on the N/A 300 hp build ? I’d be tickled with 250/280
@@ajustice2010 no, just some wishful thinking
Hey great job KMR your a hero in Mazda world! I looking to build the same exact motor I can’t wait what they results you going to get and your feedback on twitches changes you would make to make it successful in the end!! Question what year rx7 corner and Apex seal are you running?
Gsl se exhaust housings
Rx8 side plates
Fully studded
Nicely done KMR.
What would the outcome be with a full intake and exhaust peripheral ports combined with the Rx8 side housings? Would there be too much overlap to get a decent idle, especially for NA? I'd be interested to see how this effects the fuel flow/fuel economy.
I am wondering if it would be worth it to setup hybrid, ported, and studded and go back in the basically stock car so the core engine would be ready for ecu and boost later down the road maybe in a couple years. I have only had my 05 6 speed for about 8 months now and am debating the direction i would like to on it, first modification i am doing is knocking off the ebay coils the p.o. put on it and installing bhr coils, with new plugs and wires. At least he was premixing with idemitsu as i am doing so hopefully the engine isnt getting ready for a overhaul yet.
hey how come you didn't use rx7 rotors ?
Soon im going to start a semi or full peripheral turbo rx8 peoject for drag racing just brainstorming about 6 vs 4 port engine because I dont want to spend a lot on a transmision and the 4 port hast a decent transmission to start but I like the scalloping on the 6 port and the hardened stationary gears but thanks to your video im forgetting the rotor scalloping 4 port is winning😁 ... Any tip or advice is highly appreciated I also have a turbo II engine on the shop but I want to test the hybrid combination
Hey kyle.I made my fd motor into a peripheral.people ask me why?I ran this set up for installation purposes for my 94 tubbed rx7.Dave at mazda trix of course. He scalloped my rotors.9.7 rotors.clearanced.Jeff Mc call did my porting.its a bad ass engine.all balanced by Dave.Now.if I want modified rotors for turbo can u or Dave lower the compression?Mazda factory lowered theirs back in the day down to 7.5 to1.Thats the safe way to shove alot of boost and not break your side housings by the oil schematic were the dowels go.answers please kyle
Does the rx8 irons need to be oring grooved ? Or kept stock? and only run the side seals in the rotor housings?
So.. any possibility of an update? I've never seen one of these hybrid engines running for more than 1 or 2 videos and then the videos disappear
We need the renesis hybrid 4 rotor motor IMMEDIATELY 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻…team up with Rob Dahm…then make it billet and sell me to please.
Could it be possible to semi pp this motor also
What cutting method is used to deepen the rotors for rx7 apex seals? wire edm?
We used to EDM them. And that does work it's just a little expensive we've currently found a method of CNC that is working and that's what we're currently doing.
What ignition timing did you have under boost???
So using that graph, can we compare that to a standard S4, S5, RE, REW turbo charged 13b’s? Pros/cons between the hybrid and standard turbo 13B? What’s the advantage to doing all of this vs swapping a complete 13BRew? Love this video series. Can’t wait to see how it turns out! #invested #popcornonhand
yea, it's a old graph, things are better now days but it gives a basic idea of what we had in 2012-2014 with the build.
Seems like exhaust flow. It has more port area than an REW now. 440 at 14PSI is crazy, I've never seen an REW do that kind of power at that boost level with that sized turbo.
@@bennyb.1742 Yeah I don't ever say it but I think the motor has the potential to flow more air than FD motors or Cosmo motors, but it still needs more development and testing. I think there is some potential with this type of combination.
Hey Kyle. What do you do about running the omp with these rotor housings? Is it ok to delete the omp with an aftermarket ecu and premix?
We just premix
@@KyleMohanRacing what ratio would you use for street use?
I understand that there is an excessive amount of overlap with this combination did you change the exhaust port timing or do anything to mitigate this?
Nope, With a street port combination the overlap is very average.
@@KyleMohanRacing how is that possible when a street port opens the intake earlier? Early opening = more overlap?
@@blacksnakedotcom renesis streetport templates do not open the intake ports any earlier-they’re stock opening with longer duration (later closing). The overlap is gained in the later closing of the peripheral exhaust port. Not earlier opening of the intake port.
Could it work with 12a rotors and housings?
Possibly
I take it, these would not pass carb tests right?
No. I don't think so. Everything I've done has been for racing purposes
but what does it sound like?
I wonder if using adaptronic would be a possible ecu solution for a street application since here in texas we dont have emissions tests
Yes we do. Rx8's aren't old enough to be exempt from emissions yet. I live in Dallas by the way. You must live in the middle of nowhere to not have emissions tests.
So, NA is ~ 250hp?
