I think he made like high 80's with the bad coils that were on the car. And went up to 110ish with upgraded LS coils. It's not a fair comparison though since the coils were probably worn out. So we don't really know 1-1 if the LS coils made more or not. Overall it was like a 1-2hp for the intake (but also less torque down low), cat was like 2-3hp I think, cat-back was basically exactly the same with no gain from the last dyno session, and the tune was like 10-20hp.
Thats allgood for the rx8 with 600,000mls I got 1.3 million km on a S1 RX7 with a12A . 2 × 12A engines and 1× 12A turbo, and that's when the fun really started .god I miss that car
Great video, I have my car basically the same way you have it. Bennett coils are amazing, I have his ast for the coolant also. Only thing is I have stock header and 2 1/2 midpipe leading into hks high power single exhaust. Im using the versatune 91 octane for the coils. What are we doing lol
Hi was hoping I could get some expert advice! So I have an 88 10th anniversary I recently got running after 7 years of sitting. I replaced pretty much the whole fuel system including fuel lines. I didn’t replace the fuel injectors. Anyway the car starts up perfectly every time and fast too. It idles strong and doesn’t want to die. Throttle response is good but when reviving passed 4k rpm in neutral it sounds like anti lag or 2step it backfires. And when driving it does the same thing. I’m assuming secondary injectors or tps or even timing being off. I do have a full banzai racing emissions delete kit. Omp delete and I premix. Any advice or suggestions would be great thanks I hope you see this!! Love ur content I’ve learned a lot so far😎 also have confirmed I do have spark*
I would suggest, if it's not already in there a mesh screen in front of the MAF to reduce turbulence as this could rob your ECU of a stable air mass reading and air temp reading, also if you have oil in your intake the chances are the MAF is contaminated which again will affect your mass air readings and air temps. It's rare for me to have an oil burp as I always keep the oil level at the 2/3 to 3/4 mark(easier with a clean oil adapter(sohn) as my oil level never moves)
I’m so glad there’s people who like RX-8’s even more than me. I’ve been dying to buy one for years and just can’t find the right one for the right price
I skimmed through the video... did he mention that manifold in this video? I remember reading that thread on the log style manifold quite some time ago on the forums
He didn't mention it. But with his experience it'd be well within his ability. The garret turbo isn't cheap, but would be awesome to see. Maybe someone has a spare lying around lol
Was hoping you kept the low compression motor in this car, and threw on the cheapest turbocharging to see what happens to the hp and whether it would survive.😊
Hi to all of you guys. I found a barn find rx7 fb with 140 000 miles on it. I can by it but I dont have much money to rebuild the engine. Do you guys think Its even a good idea to buy it? ( I will slowly make the money and repair everything )
It's a Dynapack dyno, as far as I can tell that brand adjusts the loading to achieve a constant acceleration rate from the engine, which will sound different than an engine running on an inertia dyno or running on a racetrack. On my RX7 with stock twin turbos, boost control settings that gave a smooth boost curve on the road would result in weird boost oscillations on a Dynapack dyno, as though the dyno loading was overcompensating for the turbos spooling.
These are 5th gear pulls? If so the dyno ramp rate should be consistent with a street pull in the same gear, this doesn't seem to be the case, sub 4 sec pull in 5th.
It's 5th, trust me..With the tests we did we wanted to be consistent and somewhat quick..The ramp rate time doesn't effect the overall hp/tq to much, even if I were to use 3rd or 4th gear instead the hp/tq is usually within a few of 5th..I can set the ramp rate to last way longer than 4 seconds but it will just heat the engine up so much we would have to wait for it to cool longer between periods to be consistent, especially with the ambient temps that day..If we were to do a proper engine/ecu mapping session it would take most of the day, if not 2 days because I would do exactly as you described and simulate street pulls and evrything else in between to adjust all the cells on a fuel/timing map.
@@phalanxperformance1915 Nothing inherently wrong with that but why not test in second gear with an appropriate ramp rate? It would give you the quick results for comparison purposes and not get too hot.

@@user-lj5td3jw6t Let me rephrase. This is the dead, low compression motor he's been doing various tests on (over a series of videos) to see how far he can stretch it before replacing it. Obviously a healthy Rx8 motor would make more appropriate power, whereas this has 70psi of compression (bad).
not true, a properly built and blueprinted but non-ported 6-port Renesis should be ~225-235 whp at the wheels, with 265-275 bhp at the flywheel being fairly standard on Daryl Drummond’s Superflow dyno in the later years. When he started in 2003 with the Renesis, it was only 240-245 bhp. It’s a little higher at the wheels on the Pro Formula /STAR Mazda race series cars because their race purpose transaxle drivetrain had less losses; 240-245 whp.

That 600.000miles RX8 is insane! Also, 600.000 miles is 965.606 kilometers. If it passes 621370 miles, that's over one million kilometers!!!
I'll see what I can do to make that happen.
Can you imagine the fuel bill

Great video guys! Hope to get mine back up and going soon with another engine.
Man your content always makes me think about how much I need a rotary
Get one brother
Do it. The sale prices keep going up, but still under $10,000 for a good one

I might have a smidge in my alternator, however.

Awesome documentation! Really love what you're doing with the channel! Can't wait to see what the hybrid does.
Love the energy in the video and thank you for sharing all the results 👍

Is there anyway you could share the versatuner tune?

Sad I sold mine. Great driver but it was rotten underneath. Got a minty mk3 mr2 though. Went from rad to cool. Still loyal to the channel though.
When you high flowed your cat did it throw a CEL? If so were you able to fix that with versatuner?
Already had the CEL. But yes I believe you can fix it with VT. Ernie will know. I'll ask him about it when I get to the dyno again
This is a 4-port 5-speed right? it'd be interesting to see the 6-port base and what power it gains
Does Versatuner cause any issues with OBD-II emission testing? Or will you basically never pass again after flashing?
Versatuner is reversable. Put in your desired tune and drive. When getting tested, revert to stock, finish and reflash.

Do the S1s and S2s have different averages, or are they both the same?
Just an average condition RX8
You're giving my car too much hope lol.
At 70psi I would be absolutely shocked if it /ever/ pulls timing.
I still can't believe how much the AEM intake costs for what is essentially a couple bits of pipe and connectors.
Plus the obnoxious whistle you get from any aftermarket intake
It is plug and play though, and you have screens in the intake so the maf reads correct. Overpriced yes... but still a reasonably good product.

crazy how rx8s were advertised as having over 230hp when new but only dyno at 150hp
Probably measured of the crank rather than at the wheels.
