Flying Turns at Knoebels in Elysburg, Pennsylvania was seven years in the making! This classic style wooden roller coaster hasn’t existed in decades and Knoebels re-engineered what was a “lost” coaster type from old blueprints, plans, and photos. It took them 7 years to get the ride up and running!

My family goes to knoebels every year, and I can say that this is one of the safest and most entertaining rides I’ve been on in a while. So much fun
Agreed. People are thinking this ride is “unsafe” because it’s made out of wood, or that you can “fall off.” This ride, and everything else at knoebels is completely safe, and you are more likely to be injured on the way to the park in your car.
John Geeetner..., where is it?
John Geeetner same man we go every year and I’ll admit this is one of the best after twister of course
Riley The Wild it’s in Pennsylvania, not exactly sure where in PA but yeah
Beanie Peach it’s near Elysburg PA
All I know is this kind of coaster crashes all the time in Roller Coaster Tycoon.
Ik
Yup
+Altrunchen ikr -i'm gonna suicide when i go to it-
For me I just build it max everything and it goes bat shit crazy...
All the time!! 😂😂
I used to make coasters like this in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. So many virtual people died because of me.
LOL.
My daughter and I still play. We build parks together all the time. lol
Now they are making Roller Coaster Tycoon World. To be released early next year according to Atari.
***** I like it, but thats just me. It probably depends on what you prefer. You pretty much do what any zookeeper does + building exhibits for the animals.
Truthfully I tried the mobile version and like you I wasn't impressed. However I still love RCT Platinum and still play regularly enough I'm excited for the World and the new stuff. I will reserve judgement until I've actually played it. :)
Thank you! I never would’ve realized what spirit airlines looked like! Thanks for the detailed flight experience from beginning to end!

If I went on this I would either:
A. scream
B. sing the Jamaica bobsled team song from cool runnings 😂
And remember! Your bones don't break in a bobsled.
They shatter. 😊
“Some people say a low cannily Jamaica they got a bobsled team.”

That one unlucky person that doesn’t weigh enough flies off the edge
Ty Leak be safe, eat cake
They weigh everyone before riding
Cerealcrunch 64 Be safe, eat good amounts of healthy food
CNoelle well that’s good
Thankfully I don't have that problem anymore 😁
Imagine this, swap the wood for ice and put 4 Jamaicans in the cart and you’ve got yourself a great family film, you’re welcome
oh my god yes 😂
The great thing about this, is the free rolling feeling. Honestly, everytime I ride this, I giggle the whole time. It just feels that uniquely fun. It only tops out at 35mph, but it just free flows so fun.
Their needs to be more roller coasters like this
+Gabe Jersey its so dangerous >:D
There*
There used to be one like it at the Opryland Theme Park in Nashville, TN. Then they tore down the theme park to build a fucking outlet mall.
Evan Parlier bruh
In europa park it has another one
Mario Kart anyone? Oh and that's Luigi behind the cam. Weeeee-eeee!!!!
Oh yea!
Where at? I don't see him.
MP THATS A LIE THERES NO DEATH STARE
I'll always love this guy's "wheeee"
That ride is a work of art. Simply beautiful. I love the simplicity of the track to tube transitions. Looks relatively smooth too.
Is it just me or is this potentially very dangerous :o
You.
it's not scary at all I rode it and it's just fun
Theme Park Review I'm just saying "potentially" many things can go wrong when it comes to rides without a confined track and no restrains. Of course if no one does something stupid then it's safe but I can see something bad happening lol.
I get what you mean. I'm sure it's safe, but the part where it exits the track and swings back and forth does make me uneasy. At that point the laws of gravity are in effect in all directions.
Galfureye Jenkins What are you talking about?!?!? The ENTIRE RIDE is a track, and YES there are restraints! Are you not aware that bobsled rides have existed for DECADES and have run without any issues at all.
At 2:32 that guy said "are we going to die?"
Lol then someone says probably
donde se encuentra estos juegos
_Probably_
Yes lol
*PrObAbLy* :/
I would sit in the middle. Due to my fear of being in the front and in the back
Dream BIG why did you tell us tho...
@@in3pired9 because bitches cant break fear.and they want to be persuaded
Same
i always go for the middle seats too maybe next yr i start to sit in the back then i'll eventually sit in the front
I don't think they give you a choice on this ride. If they don't balance the riders carefully, the train might fly backwards or get trapped somewhere. That's why they have to weigh each individual rider and tell you where to sit.
"Are we gonna die?"
"Probably."
This is LITERALLY a roller coaster that COMES OFF THE TRACK. Take that to bed with you.
+Buzzy913 The whole ride is a track.
Skylord Learn to dream a little. :/
+VenomousRuler272 Touché. I like your style.

I'm watching this in bed. *JOHN CENA theme sing may play now.*
I'm all like 'What a baby ride!' and then you got to the second climb...
“That was some good old classic fun.”
This one if the best from all the random roller coaster reviews I've seen in my life. No random music, no deep silence. I like that this guy actually talks. You can tell he's having fun.
First, a launched B&M wing coaster. Then it turns out Flying Turns is finished after all these years? I'm gonna pass out if this keeps up. Oh well, this ride is amazing, I wish I could ride it!
Flying turns opened last October so it happened before a b&m launched coaster haha
Make it on rct3
It is such a fun ride! But the wait is forever it takes like an hour to get on
It's fun
Silvarret Come visit us here in Pennsylvania then! Besides very high property taxes in certain cities *cough Scranton* there are many wonder places, for example there are many state and national parks and wilderness reserves, plus knobles is free a admission park,so me and my family go several times a year.
Holy crepes, this looks dangerous. The laws of physics never fail to amaze me.
Actually the have spent about 7 years to develope this ride so that it's completely safe. It was a huge obstacle to design it safely, because safety measures were for the most part non existent when this type of coaster was popular.
Yup. And if you're ever scared of it just imagine it like a water park slide in a raft. ^-^
jellyfish whisperer I survived it
It's fun it's feels like driving a plane to me
Only because it's made of wood, SupermarketSweep . All but one of the 6 Mack steel coasters, built in the 1980s to 2001, are still running and one of the 5 Intamin steel coasters are still running. I guess that, chances are, the public or parks tended to prefer the Mack ones in practice over time (of steel ones). Like the Blackpool Pleasure Beach one that I rode.
Used to ride the Flying Turns at Euclid Beach. That was the highest ride in the park and wild! This looks really fun too.
I like how energetic and happy this guy sounds, it makes the video more dramatic, fun, and silly, instead of dull with no commentary. Nice video, even it's 3 years old.
A roller coaster with no tracks, awesome
Yea I've been there it's fun
+tom o'd The whole ride's a track!
Skylord rails then, feel better
It's not that different from other coasters.
Skylord Yeah its pretty awesome
I've been going to knoebels all my life and I watched them making this and it was really cool!
Me two I love knobles

yea i saw them making this as well :D quite amazing to see it finished
This ride can go at the bottom of my bucket list so it’s the thing that kills me 😌

Camera man: "That was some good old classic fun!" 😂😂😂
I wish my job was riding roller coasters while taking video
are you talking crap sport?
Anyone thinking of RCT while watching this?
No.
Me
But the ride is different in rct3
you guys do know they be a RCT4 Chris Sawyer is on board making it too
***** There is already a RCT4; but it sucks.
The ride is a lot of fun but man is it a pain to maintain and operate. If you go to Knoebels get on the Flying Turns first because the wait can be excruciating. Dispatch takes forever and they often have to run safety checks. Even years later they're still working bugs out of it which is to be expected but still, get on this one early.
Went to this park so many times as a kid, teenager, and even an adult. They still were building this thing every single time I went and now I see that it was done 5 years ago?? It's been 10 years at least that they've been working on this. Surprised to see it done
cool ride. when it goes off the track, it looks really risky.
It's not. It's really smooth!
It doesn't go off track
Emojo Gaming yes it does idiot
Oh it goes off "the tracks". I've been on over 100 rollercoaster and the first run I literally thought we were going to wipe out. Smooth as silk once you get used to it.
Emojo Gaming
Yes it does when it’s on the part with those high wooden parts

Modeled after the Bobsled ride at Coney Island. It was my favorite ride when I was young. 70 now.
I was on this ride and it's very fun! When it flies up on the sides it does give you the feeling of it going to tip over or you falling out. Great coaster!
this is clever! how does it go on and off the tracks that smoothly?
Because it filters into it at the end you can see
because Germans built it.
Brian Asay Germans are amazing.
Magnets.....
it took them 7 years to build this thing.
A little dissapointed about there not being a mention of a Jamacian bobsled team throughout the video.
I found it funny everytime he went "wee" around the sharp corners 😂
What a cool coaster! I wish there were more like this. Thanks for sharing.
WOW! This looks amazing, the rider gets to feel the free movement of that cars around those half tube turns? I absolutely hate rides, but I'd go on this.
"It's a little wilder here in the back." Thanks for the tip xd
I’ve never seen a roller coaster that’s meant to DERAIL and rail back again. So Unique
I don't typically like roller coasters but this looks like tremendous fun.
Agreed, I'm scared of coasters but this one looks do-able
I've played RCT too much to not be scared shitless if I rode this.
It’s not that scary I went on it today compared to the twister lol
I went on it, and survived! XD
I thought the thumbnail was Planet Coaster lol
I went to Knoebel's for the first time 3 weeks ago w/family and this rollercoaster was fun. My niece and I went on it twice. We loved it. I hope to visit the park again next summer. Great amusement park in Pennsylvania.
Wow that an amazing coaster! Never seen one like that before! Thanks for sharing!
“Are we gonna die?”
“Probably.”
So, from your description, this was the way coasters used to be? As in, before rails and powered lifts, basically wooden-frame bobsleds? I did not know that. I like this "hybrid" idea; it seems that with today's computers to resolve the physics this could be a really cool method of constructing future coasters that are just as safe as modern "grip-the-rails" machines but more "scary" in that you're sort of flying free... I'd like to see more of these. :-D
They were popular back in the late 20's and early 30's before the Great Depression. This was during the first big coaster boom. One of the more prominent designers was Harry G Traver, who designed the legendary Crystal Beach Cyclone. Some of his design's were updated and still in use today.
darkpoet25 Remember the origin of the Roller Coaster?
It's an antique ride design but what you'd consider a normal wooden coaster pre-dates it. Side-friction coasters (roller coasters that run along tracks but aren't attached to them with upstop wheels that keep them from flying off the track) like Leap the Dips are among the oldest that were actually build as rides. There are also the old gravity railroads which inspired the construction of roller coasters.
Very cool. I hope to be able to ride this sometime, I've always been fascinated by bobsled coasters.
I had a blast riding this thing a few years back
That was an interesting coaster. Looked like a lot of fun too. :)
Guests are saying Wooden Bobsled Roller Coaster is too cheap, consider raising the price.
rct3???
Looked like some good ole classic fun!!!
yes, i am here because of RCT. i never really understood as a kid what bobsled really meant so i would only place the prebuilt rides. growing up i got a lot better at rollercoaster building but would still fail at these types so again with the prebuilts. this video has finally finally shed some light. might go find my copy and play again ! this kind of ride actually looks fun !
we all know one day a cart gonna flip over....
That's why it took 7 years from construction to opening. The park had to go through numerous train designs to find one that would guarantee a safe ride and extremely minimal risk of tipping.
It would take a tornado to flip one of those trains.
It has. Many times.
@Sarah Leason, Yeah, my mom told me that the cart has fallen over many times due to it being unbalanced. But I'm gonna go on it anyway🤷♀️
I wouldn't care. Looks like it has a roll bar on it so still looks safe
Never had the opportunity to ride a bobsled coaster, but they look awesome. On a side note, I cant comment or like anything on the facebook page, so I'm assuming I had those rights taken away for whatever reason. I don't remember posting any bad comments, so sorry if I did. Cheers.
Went there on Friday and this was one of my favorite rides.
break runs are so important to me lol. Every pov and planet coaster vid I watch, I always pay attention to the break runs
I would be so afraid that the car would flip on me if I went on this.
You obviously don't know how physics work.
They spent seven years making sure it can't happen. It can only possibly happen if the train is too heavy (more than 400 pounds worth of riders per car) and you stand on scales in the station before boarding to make sure it's under the limit.
Adam Ahmed
that would discourage any fat people from riding, lol, we fatties are terrified of scales lmao
Domolikesyoshi
Not really. Your weight isn't displayed anywhere, there would just be some sort of indicator on the operator's panel that would show whether each scale is registering over or under 400 pounds... and that can be one person or two as long as their combined weight does not exceed 400 pounds.
ahhh right thanks for clearing that up.
Did anyone else hear are we going to die?
My answer is yes
This is the most interesting ride I’ve ever seen whoa-
This ride is an amazing thrill. It doesn't look like much but it's just so much fun.
This is my favorite ride here
"Just looking at Flying Turns makes me sick!"
the line to this is always the longest, every single time i go here. knoebels is such a magical place tho
This was a great ride that I enjoyed earlier this month!!
That ride doesn't look that scary but I'm going on that sometime
That's the whitest dad I've ever heard

Flying Turns original from 1933 Chicago world fair, then moved to Riverview park til 1967. a blast to ride!
That was some good ole classic fun!
I went to Knopels yesterday and have literally never viewed anything like this before but then it popped up on my recommended am I being stalked by my phone
Me before seeing the no track part : wow, this looks really fun!! ^-^
Me seeing the no track : OH HECK NO!! THAT LOOKS WAY DANGEROUS!!!! XO
It's not dangerous! There er many bobsled coasters in the world and no one have ever had problems
U sure? =.=
Hatsune MikuMiku Yep! Each roller coaster in the world is carefully designed and buildt. And with most coasters are checked everyday for problems before the park opens.
Miklon Dk oh
Pretty cool...I look forward to visiting!
this guy's yells of joy make me happy
Imagine having this in your backyard.
All I can think about is Roller Coaster Tycoon
This is one of my favorite rides! :D
That metal banging sound on the lift is so satisfying
I live about an hour away from Knobles and I remember going on this roller coaster a few years ago ( probably when I was 10 or something) but I don’t remember the roller coaster feeling as dangerous as it looks in the video. It wasn’t actually too scary tbh and that’s coming from someone who’s not the biggest fan of roller coasters
But then line was the longest I ever saw so if you ever want to try this ride be prepared to wait in a line for half an hour or more, just like I did 😊
I'd rather go on something more exciting than Flying Turns 1
I feel so special since I live near this park and go on this ride along and literally no one else in the comments has been on it
I love your screams of "wo-hoo!" Lmao
i wonder on the possibility of the train overbanking and the ride stumbling on it's side
BoilingHotCoffee I'd imagine that the possibility was taken into mind and engineered around while designing this ride.
It took 7 years to make. I think they put that into consideration. Haha
BoilingHotCoffee That's part of what took so long. The ride would have opened in 2007 if they went with their first train design that was prone to issues. The extra 7 years came from trial and error in getting it to work consistently.
They secure it with bolts
BoilingHotCoffee That's what happened when they first began testing it. They went through different safety precautions in order to avoid that.
shhhhhhh no one is supposed to know about Knoebels!!! lmao
I thought the exact same thing! lol.
Ryan Clark Knoebels? Where is this place!?
Joe Momma Elysburg, PA
Satanic Rituals SSSHHHB boi don't be saying stuff like that. This is top secret
I was thinking the same thing! It always so uncrowded and like no wait line. I hope that doesn't change
I use to work in maintenance at Kings Dominion in Va. I love the wooden coasters hands down.
its almost like they are alive.
Nothing better than the sound of a wooden coaster.
When the damn camera man won't stop saying whoa and wee pisses me off
You don't like fun?
The guy in the Theme Park Review videos sometimes sounds annoying. I still enjoy the videos but some of them I just can stand it.
I'm done😂😂😂😭
A.J. Vasquez no its just he wont shut up and keeps going WHOAAAAAAAAAAA WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE even though he rode it twice
So you're only meant to express enjoyment the first time you do something??
I'd be too scared to go on that I would think I'm gonna die lol
I did this last year, I definitely recommend it it's awesome! 👌👌
