Exactly. Before people used to compare Ward to GGG. But then turned his bitterness towards Canelo when he moved up, because he knew it was a bad look for his legacy for the smaller man from his era doing bigger things in his own divisions. Ward never attempted undisputed in all his years at 168, refusing to unify with Bute who had was a long reigning champ unlike Benavidez. He went through 4 straight years without facing a champ, finally fought Kovalev and got a gift then lowblowed his way to victory in the rematch and left big money and legacy on the table pulling an early retirement in a stacked division (with Beterbiev as his mandatory) because he'd rather prioritize keeping his 0 intact like we didn't already see him lose it.
As for Canelo, after unifying titles at 154 and 160, he jumped up 2 divisions to take out the biggest name on Ward's resume Kovalev, became the first and only undisputed champ at 168 which Ward never attempted, and returned to 175 to face a second champ there unlike one and done Ward. Ward even took Plant under his wing to try to stop Canelo from making history, and out here pushing hater narratives when Canelo is focused on the biggest challenge of all Bivol.
By the way, I noticed he toned down some of the Benavidez hype who didn't look like a supposed next level monster against Plant. Ward had previously predicted Plant would KO Canelo and doesn't want to look foolish again going all in on Benavidez who isn't bringing anything Canelo hasn't seen before.

SOG is my favorite fighter, and here in Oakland, he is such an admired individual. He is an idol of mine as both a fighter and as a human being. However, he unconsciously still competes with Canelo. It's as if he's angry that he never got the chance to fight him. And that competitiveness blinds him. He's been unfair towards Canelo since forever. And while I think a prime SOG would dominate Canelo, I still think he's unfair towards him. People need to accept that Benavidez lost his belt to cocaine and weight. And, Plant was his first real fight. David just finally earned a shot with Canelo, and Bivol is a much tougher test than he is. So I'll take his Canelo talk with a grain of salt.
