yk in Peter, one line in the bridge really stuck out to me "to hold on (hold on) to the days when you were mine" bc the 'hold on' part is SO similar to new year's day "hold on to the memories they will hold on to you" and i interpreted that as her saying that she tried to hold on to their happy memories in the relationship just so she could be blindsided to the period when she just knew it had ended, and her basically saying that the days that this person was hers were just memories during this period

It reminds me of swinging alone on my swing set for hours as a kid (probs to escape my 5 rowdy siblings) singing the same line from ice age over and over bc I didn’t know any other words or songs rly (it was the vultures singing FOOD GLORIOUS FOOOOD- to this day I don’t know the rest of the words)
I’m a Christian and this is my favorite Taylor album (my previous was reputation and I’ve been a swiftie since 2010). I don’t get why so many people are upset about it. If anything Christians should feel ashamed, not angry, because it sounds like she has some religious trauma she’s dealing with. I also think because Christian ideas and stories are relatively common knowledge she’s using them as metaphors so people can better understand what she’s trying to say. Idk these are just my thoughts while listening to the album 🤷🏻♀️

I am also a Christian and I agree! She uses them as a metaphor and it’s not anything offensive.
I don’t know if she still is, but in the past she’s talked about being a Christian and I think Travis might be too? But obviously it’s impossible to know for sure. To me, I think she’s calling out a lot of the hypocrisy of some of the people in the religion which I think is an important topic to discuss because we should be known for our kindness and grace, not being judgmental.
From another Christian perspective- I didn't feel comfortable when I heard the religious lyrics. But that's conviction that won't be the same for everyone. Scripture says people have different stumbling blocks. I have no issue with a couple drinks while out as a Christian; whereas some abstain from alcohol on principle. I might abstain from her music with religious lyrics because it doesn't feel right for me but that's a choice each Christian needs to make on their own. Wouldn't judge anyone for their own conclusion.
People so deep in fundamentalism don’t have the self-awareness to reflect on themselves. Look at the way Jill Duggar has been treated for simply speaking out about her experience growing up in IBLP, and calling out her parents for their mistreatment of her. And it’s simply her standing up for herself and setting boundaries for the most part. And as for Taylor, speaking about these topics in this way shouldn’t be surprising for those who know her discography and story even a little. Would’ve Could’be Should’ve literally exists, so even fans who just got here in the past couple years know this is something she’s grappled with.

I actually interpreted Cassandra to be about the master’s situation specifically because of the line “blood’s thick but nothing like a payroll.” Scott was described as a father figure to her but he sold her master’s to scooter for money. Then several people quietly left scooter’s management a while after taylor accused him of bullying, hence “do you believe me now?”
That’s my interpretation too, I don’t relate it to the Kanye situation at all… since first listen I thought of the masters.
I agree, but if you go along with the Kim and Kanye theme, then the line "blood's thick but nothing like a pay roll" is her sort of giving the prophecy, like Cassandra, to Kim that even her family will turn on her. During their divorce, Kanye spoke badly about Kim publicly. It's her talking to Kim that what she did was for her family, but he will always choose money or fame or publicity over blood.
It's a combo of both situations. "Blood's thick but nothing like a payroll" may have been a reference to Scott betraying her, but it also works for someone from the K camp leaking the unedited phone call and betraying their own family.
Exactly! This seems like it’s more a reference to the master situation and just how everyone in relation to the Kanye and Kardashian camps we’re coming after her

Thank you for saying it’s Europes time now! I am from Sweden and I have been waiting for 15 years to see Taylor but she has never been here or in an area I could visit. I was supposed to see her in Norway during lover but covid…😅 now I am seeing her for the first time NEXT WEEKEND and I am so excited. So many emotions now that has been building up for 15 years 😭😭
As someone from South Africa, I think everyone in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia are very lucky to be able to have the chance to see Taylor live without having to leave their continent. I'd die to see her live in Southern Africa, even if she just performed one song, let alone 3 hrs+. Everyone who got to see her live or who will see her live later this year is so lucky and should enjoy their shows no matter what the set list is.

Hey I have a question for you! I'm also from Europe and I was planning on going to one of her concerts that's closest to me, but unfortunately I didn't have the money to buy a ticket when they started selling (hopefully I'll have the money in a month or two) so I was wondering is there a chance I could still buy a ticket somewhere, or is it too late?
I have a feeling they're all sold out and that I could maybe only find ones that are 3x the original price, but I still have a little hope. I'm also scared of getting scammed because I really don't know what sites are the safest to buy from. Could you (or anyone else who knows) please recommend some safe online sites to me, where I could buy a tickets to one of her concerts in Europe, without getting scammed?
I never bought any tickets online so I'm kinda scared of making a mistake, especially when it's that important and expensive lol.

@@MayaMickaMicakIf you have the money, I think there are still some VIP tickets left on ticketmaster in some countries! They are more expensive than the normal tickets but still cheaper than what people in the US paid with fluctuating pricing
In Peter, I read the repetition of "said you were gonna grow up, then you were gonna come find me" as almost childish, almost an immature insistence on "this is what you said would happen" and an incomprehension as to why it didn't. It also feels to me like the way a child would describe something or like a child like logic in terms of cause an effect. I thought it was really beautiful showing how she maybe had matched Peter's maturity
Agreed, the repetition and nursery rhyme melody sounds like a child complaining about a broken promise. I think the song is an exploration of her own immaturity/naïveté at the time, not just Peter’s. Then she grows up and learns that the world doesn’t work like that, sometimes people make promises with good intentions but fail to follow through. It touches on the loss of that innocence, of believing that everything will work out as promised - which loops back to White Horse! This ain’t a fairy tale! She finally turns out the light, realizing that she was naive to have left it on for so long…
This is so interesting! I read the repetition as playing into the tempo of the song, which is actually in 3/4ths--aka, a waltz. That dance involves a lot of seemingly repetitive, circular motions with a partner, and I see the lyric as a metaphor for Wendy developing a pattern of looking for Peter within other men, and always "circling back" to him in her head and her expectations/desires. All of this also links to "as the men masqueraded, I hoped you return," as if she's dancing with these men at a masquerade ball, choosing other men only as as a temporary dance partner until Peter comes back for her. Thematically, this habit connects back to lyrics in many other songs, such as Getaway Car, Hits Different, and Long Story Short. However, by the end of it all, she accepts that Peter is never going to come back, and that devoting herself to a promise made by a "child" was not beneficial to her.
In the original Peter and Wendy story from like 1911. Peter promises to return for Wendy and take her to Neverland for a week every spring. But he forgets and then years later returns only to
Find Wendy has grown into an adult and so he takes her daughter Jane to Neverland. He makes the same promise to Jane but again doesn’t keep his
Promises and years go buy and the cycle continues with Jane’s daughter Margaret. So by repeating it three times it is representing the promises Peter made to Wendy, Jane and Margaret that he failed to keep.
I picked up on this too, the repetition and circling back reminded me of going round in circles in a relationship. The constant back and forth, hoping for more and giving more chances to end up with the same outcome.. I LOVE Peter so much 🤍

I am far from rich. But I wouldn't trade my precious marriage and loving friendships for literally ANY amount of money. I know these are the things that really make me happy, and give my life meaning. Even billions, without them, would be hollow and gray.
I read Cassandra as being more "about" her warning people about Scooter Braun and how she was the first person to call him out and raise concerns, while his artists all stood by him at the time only to then years later all abruptly leave him. The family line makes a lot more sense in this context, alluding to Scooter eventually screwing over his artists. There could definitely be references to the kimye situation (snakes) like how mad woman had allusions to both "feuds." Love your interpretations

This is the connection I made too! It would make perfect sense for her to call back on her situation with Scooter in light of all the artists that recently left (i.e. Ariana, Demi, JB, etc.) and cast herself as Cassandra warning them of their futures only to be dismissed, but ultimately, correct!

you're onto something!!!! but i'm pretty sure that the contracts they sign don't give them an 'easy way out' as in they probably had to wait for the contract to end before switching management and so on. also theres probably crazy nda's and other awful contracts that kept them directly tied to scooter with no other option but to wait until the contract expired. but that's just something that came into my head recently. what do we think about that?🤔🤔

When you were discussing Peter, it made me think how yes, Down Bad has alien themes throughout, but it could easily be Peter Pan as well…like Peter comes and sweeps Wendy off to Neverland, then brings her back “safe and stranded”, as well as a cloud of sparkling dust (as in pixie dust)…and then in other songs like “lunar valleys in my mind” like how Neverland is towards the second star on the right and I think is like a valley with mountains. 💚✨

I appreciate you gave Robin the nod it deserves...it's one of the most underrated tracks on The Anthology. It's so, so good.
I like it too but I’ve noticed that it’s mostly a favorite of people with kids because of the subject matter. People with children are crying over it while people without kids are skipping it lol. I don’t have kids but I still listen to it, it’s sweet
I didn't like it and was about to skip until I was listening to it around my 6 year old ... and it finally clicked and I. Startled. Bawling. It perfectly captures how I feel about this stage of motherhood and wanting to protect their sweetness. Not a bop but an incredible song.
I get emotional listening to Robin every single time. I don't have kids, but it reminds me of when i was the sweet, innocent kid that my parents wanted to protect. This song hits me right in the feelings and it's so, so beautiful.

I watched the Paris show a couple of hours ago. The TTPD part was so good! It's the absolute best part of the tour now, hands down. And you were very close for the dress. Okay, you're right about the first song. And the second one! Killing it! Down bad is on there. I wish GAS had been. LMAO, she did sing the GTA line! This is so fun. :P LMAO, she sang both of your ironic songs! She did sing miserable. The crowd screamed more every time. They did cut a bunch of songs. A lot of my favorites. They did cut Long Live. It worked really well though. It was like breathing a bit of life into a set that everyone has already seen.
I’ve been thinking of the rental car he crashed as a metaphor for the “getaway car” being a mere rental, like it wasn’t solid enough to be a fully owned car, but instead just a rental. I could be so wrong though!

I'm so glad you mentioned chapmagne problems because if you listen to it, at the end it has a little piano "riff" (I don't know what to call it I literally have no idea about music, but it's like someone playing with the notes) and in chloe et al it's the same thing! But throughout the whole song. And I love it so much
I am so incredibly excited to go to the concert in Hamburg, Germany in July! I'm from Denmark, and we've unfortunately never had the honor of a Taylor Swift concert ever, so even to have her tour so close is an immense privilege. (N1 on the 23rd btw!)

2:37 Sweetie, honey, diva, sister. The shows in the US were around 2-5am for us europeans (for reference, i was awake for a lot of the shows, BUT THE ONE SHOW where SNTV was announced I was fast asleep) the Australian shows being a little better, but also during times where most people are busy at work, school, uni etc. I can't express how excited I am to sit down on thursday at 7pm, ON A NATIONAL HOLIDAY, NOTHING ELSE TO WORRY ABOUT and enjoy the eras tour (still filmed with a potato on tiktok), but alas we cheered!

Love the idea of her starting the set in a structured gown, and then it becomes disheveled during “but daddy I love him” because “running with my dress unbuttoned” gives such strong August-run down the catwalk vibes, and then a quick change into a bodysuit for the rest of it. Can’t wait to see what miss Blondie does!! Also your videos are always such a breath of clean fresh air-you let yourself have your genuine opinions, while also maintaining a positive vibe, and I love it.
As a Christian I do like both this album but I also completely understand why some wouldn’t. I agree it’s about her personal experience. And nobody should judge like that.

I am also a Christian. I like Taylor and I totally disagree that she's some spawn of the devil trying to manipulate the world into some sort of narrative, I think a lot of those outlandish accusations are simply scapegoats since she's popular. At the same time, I'll avoid some lines since Taylor and I don't have to agree on everything for me to still like her

“Blood’s thick, but there’s nothing like a payroll” - I interpret this as Taylor saying K’s family probably would have gone along with the lie anyway because they’re her family, but the fact that it was a plot line in their show (payroll) guaranteed they’d all go along with it despite how uncomfortable some of them seemed with it. Family loyalty might have been enough, but it being part of their show means they had to get on board.
How did the real phone call or proof get released? Do we know?
@@lillizajane365I obviously don’t know, but in my brain, when Kris tried to get Kim to do the right thing, and Kim refused, she was disappointed. I think she gave Kim a chance to right things herself, and when she didn’t, she leaked it. If I were a mom to an adult child who did something like that, so intentionally, I’d be very upset. Kris & Andrea are such iconic industry moms, and I think it really affected the moms, watching Taylor go through what she did, so needlessly. If my kid was such a bully, and had people dog-piling on someone innocent, I’d probably release the receipts, if I had them. 💁🏽♀️

Yes, that is along the lines of my suspicions. It makes me think about the blood/payroll lyric in those terms. You would think the source would have been revealed?!
I have 2 personal interpretations' of it;
1) a continuation as a saying, the second part no one bothers to qoute.
Ex. . . "curiosity killed the cat." - "but satisfaction brought it back."
or "An eye for an eye makes the world go blind" - "But it'll keep on spining anyway."
and in this case "Bloods thicker than water" - "But nothing like a payroll"
That the people who betrayed her, whom she trusted, did so for petty selfish reasons.
2)Or that Kim released the audio not in defense of her husband like she claimed (blood.) but instead for monetary gain (Payroll)

I love watching first listening videos, but yes I totally agree, there is something so special about listening to songs by themselves. Also since the album is so freaking long, watching initial reactions almost feels overwhelming cause I'm still trying to process the album myself.
I got totally addicted to watching first reaction videos the first couple days after the release. I’ve seen a couple hilarious compilations of people reacting specifically to the “I’m having his baby/No I’m not, but you should see your faces” part of BDILH. It’s totally like looking in other people’s windows. 😂

it’s actually so interesting to me that i’ve had such different reactions to imgonnagetyouback and the albatross to most people!! i LOVED the albatross as soon as i heard it (like favourite on the whole album loved), but imgonnagetyouback is still yet to speak to me.

what you said about i hate it here is soo relatable. i remember nights when i was 8 years old and till this day and maybe forever, unable to sleep and being plagued with thoughts like that (touchwood). going to sleep afraid and then fantasy books came as a sort of relief. so many people i know have never thought of life like this and have never felt like this and im kinda envious of them. thankyou for sharing your experience, i dont feel paranoid anymore. and the 2nd chorus with the lunar valley part is my favouriteee. also i feel like this is the reason the first time i heard robin, i teared up.

I take the line about blood being thicker than water to be about Scott selling her masters, making the whole song about Kim and Kanye but also Scooter Braun and then the thing about Cassandra being able to see the future and trying to warn people also referencing the fact that so many of scooters clients have since dropped him

I'm so glad you went into such detail on The Prophecy, it's my favourite song from the whole album! I think it comes from such a place of crisis and vulnerability we haven't seen from Taylor yet; it goes beyond singing about relationships or others who have hurt her.
I have this feeling she might end the whole show with "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart'. Imagine the last line she sings to us being "Try to come for my job" 😛
The lyrics are so sad though, compared to Karma which is just 100% celebratory, it would end the show on such a bittersweet note... I'm not sold on the idea

Honestly Ally, I prefer these videos over the reaction videos! I personally love your channel for the in depth analysis above all else. I find reaction videos usually quite strenuous to watch because I can feel the pressure you’re under to formulate an opinion on the spot which cannot be easy.
Please don’t feel pressured to make more reaction videos if you prefer the experience of listening for the first time on your own! Your interest in Taylor’s music started out as a personal venture and it’s completely okay to keep it that way :)
Please do an early first thoughts ranking!! It would be so fun to see in a years time what your new ranking would be. There are so many songs I’m sure it would change and that commentary would be interesting. The current ranking videos I’ve seen so far have been so different to my taste 😂

Ally this whole video is great, please don’t worry too much about “expectations” from anyone! Loved hearing your thoughts on the Anthology tracks. I suggest you first decide on your ranking for these songs, then give it some time before you redo your ranking of her whole catalogue. I am finding that this album is so lyrically and emotionally heavy (in a good way) that it’s taking more time to digest.
Also, I would *love* for you to do a deeper analysis on the religious themes of this album, like a sequel to your Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve deep dive. There are just so many references on this album! So even though I said don’t mind others’ expectations, I do humbly request that video lol
