With its delivery, imho its probably the best line in the entire series (so far, s4 isn't over yet). Barry was good at killing, but he never enjoyed it. Regardless of your standpoint on him deserving retribution, Barry genuinely wanted to become better at acting and leave his old life behind, but the circumstances that surround him (put there by both his own actions and the actions of others eg. Fuches) kept him from doing so. Its what makes the line hit so much harder for those who've seen the whole series up to this point. God DAMN this is a good show.

I tried to think about this scene from Sally’s perspective. She has sought validation and approval her whole life. She wants the comfort and safety knowing that someone out there truly has her back and isn’t in it for personal interests. For all Barry’s flaws and being unhinged at this point, he is the only one in her life that fits that bill. Even when they slept together the first time, Sally was acting like a random hook up no big deal, until Barry acted like a boyfriend would. Treated her as his girl and not some random sex fling. Barry was also willing to commit crimes to support her such as breaking into her agents house and messing with her. He also literally took the rap for her outright killing someone. She knows he will never hurt her on purpose and truly does love her. Now look at everyone else in her life: - Mom: Livia Soprano c.2023. Sides with the abusive ex who choked her instead of her own daughter. - Dad: Nice enough but a clear enabler for both Mom and daughter. Can’t keep her protected. - Gene: Happily taking the glory and publicity that comes from being the mentor to a serial killer. Using it to further himself and would do the same against Sally. - Natalie: Two timed her already which led to the elevator incident - Agent(s): Treat her like a paycheck and run when it gets difficult - like defending her in the elevator incident. The only person in Sally’s life who hasn’t used her for their own gain in her mind is Barry. Both of them are broken people - but sometimes that’s what a broken person needs. Another who is the same and knows how they feel. Barry is the only person in her life who is willing to accept Sally for who she is and as is. That gives her a feeling of safety.
I have to point out that the Agent was willing to stick with her after the elevator incident. But she told Sally don't do anything yet, and Sally ignored that advice and filmed an apology video and uploaded it without checking or informing her. When the agent tries to reason with her why that made the situation worse, Sally started yelling and said lots of extra stuff that can't take back. That's when the Agent said I have to stop representing you. So she gave Sally lots of chances until it was impossible.
This part got me, after everything they've both been through and him pleading through the phone that she's safe and he loves her. Impeccable delivery on both fronts
I don’t wanna feel bad for Barry since he’s kinda nuts and evil but man Bill Hader’s acting really makes you empathize with him… his range as Barry, from funny to scary to crazy to heartbreaking is really beautiful to watch
You can totally feel for someone who's done bad things. Especially if they are a tragic character. Barry's as tragic a character as they come. From what we've heard and seen he's so obviously had severe psychological and social issues since he was a young boy, his parenting situation is suspect at best (I mean come on, his dad's best friend is fuges. That tells us plenty about the type of people they probably were). He has major PTSD from being in combat, lost his parents at a young age, has felt isolated lonely lost and misunderstood his whole life, and was essentially manipulated into becoming a hit-man by the closest father-figure he's ever known. I don't think there's a "bad guy" character you can feel worse for. He's the most tragic villian I've ever seen. He's going to get even more tragic, if not get outright killed by the end because theres no way Hader is going to give Barry a happy ending.
We're put in a position where we are meant to like and emphatize with him. Like Walter White. We are watching his story so of course its him that we care about. i wonder if barry would kill sally if she knew earlier that he is killer and insisted on telling police about his crimes because barry eliminated anyone without questioning
Considering that he didn't kill albert (which he could have if he tried), I would guess not. In a weird way, I think he's too selfish to kill the people that make him feel valid as a human, because they are the only thing that could ground him from his self loathing (except for chris of course)
He didn't kill Mr Cousineau. Mostly likely he would have kept Sally prisoner or something. Trying to convince her to love him. He seems to dissociate from people he targets to kill. Like with Janice Moss he had a thousand excuses why it was okay, and didn't seem to think it was offensive to tell Gene those reasons even though he knew Gene loved her.
I hope albert somehow trys to clear barrys name by saying he is mentally unstable due to his time in the war and how barry saved his life ...but i forgot barry a murderer lol
The way people talk about Sally truly boggles the mind. Out of this harrowing scene you think Sally is somehow in the wrong for blurting out something she knows is a lie the second after she says it? .... okay the comments section is FASCINATING. I thought maybe the end was too heavy-handed, but I was wrong there's easily like 30% of people here who don't recognize how revealing Barry's reaction was, what was going on there. Sally very obviously is NOT safe with Barry - Barry is dangerous, and harmful to her - and this is epitomized in Barry's obsession to be someone who makes her 'safe', to be the protector to fulfill that role as validation of him being worth something... and this causes him to do monstrous things that will hurt her. This ending scene shows that even in his most desperate state, he can't help but latch on to this belief, that he's not actually learned anything, he hasn't changed and likely cannot change - that he is truly a monster but not of his own will.

She loves him because he made her feel safe and understood. Notice though she didn’t use the past tense, she “feels” safe with him. Even knowing who he is and what he does, she still feels safe. She knows that he’s absolutely batshit but she doesn’t believe he would hurt her. At the same time I think she knows she can’t allow herself to take that risk. It’s so sad.
Well, psychopathy is kind of a spectrum. People think you are a psychopath or you are not, but the truth is no one gets 0 in the Psychopathy Checklist. Even the most wicked can feel empathy for some people
I didn’t see the roll of toilet paper until just now
This scene alone should have secured Sarah Golberg an Emmy nomination. She was brilliant the whole season. Shame on you, Academy...
this scene is so disturbing dude jesus
I didn’t tell you the part I didn’t want to be true. Everything I ever told you, I meant. I felt it deep down. But there was this part of me that was ashamed of it, how I felt about you, how you, someone not of my world, could make me want to change without asking. I was ashamed of how much I needed you. Can you ever understand how I felt? I can understand why you didn’t stay or reach out again. I didn’t deserve it, most importantly, you didn’t care anymore. And that’s okay.
Barry I'm begging you to realize Sally is not that into you and you're projecting your "perfect life" onto her. She doesn't want to be your perfect wife and mother to your kids. Just stop dude.
bro who are you talking too. It’s a show🤣😭
@@clarence9379 holy shit you mean it's not a documentary? Thanks! I was going to be invested in these characters but you sure showed me. Fuck i hate your generation. And it's "to" you cave man. If you're gonna insult someone at least check your grammar first.
Bro what is goin on boys
Barry is a far more complex character than just being a lunatic.
He's a bad guy, definitely, but his mental illness is much different to that of an insane person.
Damn Barry is still so lost, fucking up left and right
no question, Barry is fucked up, beeing a hitman and all, but it is just mind boggling how much he is surrounded by extreme egoists, that only care about themselfs and use Barry as much as he lets them, while he accepts beeing used because he so desperately tries to have a connection with someone
Can you upload the clip of Ryan's scene with Barry from Episode 1? I could only find a camera recording of it
Sally is beautiful tho
This scene was surprisingly romantic.
Romantic? It’s disturbing lol
Romantic in a desperate, trauma bond type way, right?😂 I've been there tho
At some point, I started rooting against Barry. Somewhere in season 3 I think
i wonder if barry would kill sally if she knew earlier that he is killer and insisted on telling police about his crimes because barry eliminated anyone without questioning
"lol"
❤ so far it's not going so good for Barry just saying
LMFAO
Bill best work after richie
Not the I love you reflecting that first I love you acting scene where Gene told him to give it the fuck up ugh
#BillHader
I was never going to sign up to a streaming service just for one show. So now I just get the broad strokes off CZcams, instead.
I have Disney+ and all I watch is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Buffy the Vampire Slayer 🤷🏻♀️
Way to go Sally. Give this lunatic false hope.
The way people talk about Sally truly boggles the mind. Out of this harrowing scene you think Sally is somehow in the wrong for blurting out something she knows is a lie the second after she says it? They're both broken, but Barry is categorically the worst person in this conversation for doing ...... y'know...... everything he did
@@Dan_G.R.S.Kinda agree. Wouldn't have before. After seeing her mother, I can see that everyone in the world has let her down. I hated her before. But know I am far more concerned.
@@Dan_G.R.S. it’s ridiculous. If you can have sympathy for the violent murderer, you can have sympathy for Sally.
"You were so loving to me"
Wait, but...didn't she basically just use him in like season 1 where he tried to care for her and she was being a total bitch
First off, his way of caring was way off mark. Literally shows up with a new laptop to give to someone he slept with once.
Secondly, woman was married to someone who literally abused her. Barry had never laid hands on her.
@@alvinanil6996 yeah it’s a gift because her laptop was broken. What’s the issue?
@@GigaChadh976 aren’t Apple laptops like hundreds of dollars? It’s weird to buy that for someone after going on a single date with them. That’s an anniversary present.
Of course. This show is all about narcissism. That's it.
@@LUNDYLUNDYLUNDY since they slept together it’s fair to assume their dating. He got her a laptop. What’s the proper price of a gift? 10 bucks?
Barry you don't need her. You can do better. Tomorrow morning just look around the shower stalls and you'll find your new love! She only cares about herself.
.... okay the comments section is FASCINATING.
I think you're my new God, make a theory channel or something man. Don't waste your monetizable talent. 😠😉👍
What did he do to the dog
They are referring to the man Sally killed in 3x8
They're talking about the guy that Sally killed last season and Barry threw his corpse in the desert, where he found Albert
@@Yo-dh1ik that totally flew over my head
@@Yo-dh1ik that’s so cool
@@ItsJustXander i'm glad i helped!
I never liked her.
Yah know this was heart warming i think they’ll work this out
😬
I still think Better Call Saul is the best show I've ever seen, but Barry is cementing itself in my top 5 so easily. this show truly is fantastic
Better Call Saul is another level, it's the goat
@@diesemautokerl2181 just a ridiculously satisfying ending to a perfectly written drama.
Bill Hader went to a Better Call Saul reunion where they were working on the writing of an episode so he learned a thing or two
@@diesemautokerl2181 sure if you like being bored out of your mind
I agree with James. I found BCS so boring, the cartel plot so generic and uninteresting and I didn't care for Jimmy and Kim... I prefer Barry so much
Sally is terrible. Barry should have stopped chasing her years ago.
