He didn't _yell_ at Lon. He, he like loudly stated. You know, he basically he went like this: "tell Gene he should be more discreet." ...like he said it _that_ loud.
I love how he's eating skittles while asking and writing, like it's some kind of entertainment. Lately serial killers have been a huge thing in the entertainment business, especially the series that came out last year in Netflix. The thing is that so many people were involved and damaged in every case and we just sit there and watch what happened while drinking a nice cup of coffee and eating skittles.
its extra fucked up when you realize this dudes thirst to get the story actually endangers Gene's life. like he gets so caught up in how "juicy" the story is that he has absolutely no consideration for the shitstorm he's starting for the people involved. a very searing critique of journalism
Yeah, I've always felt true crime aficionados are a bit like parasites feeding off the misery and misfortune of others. Not to mention how internet sleuths ruin innocent people's life and mess up investigations by trained professionals.
Bill's had a meltdown in every episode so far, or at least a brief rage fit. Seriously tapped into some dark corners for that and you can see it in his eyes.
@@HouseMDLover69 "think I didn't have one? (Smacks head 40x) YOU THINK I DIDNT FUCKIN HAVE ONE IN THE SECOND EPISODE?!?! Maybe you should CHECK THE FUCK AGAIN!!! "- Barry (probably)
Since the start of the show he’s had his heart set on changing his life and it angers him that people won’t just drop all the murdering he’s done and let him change
@@KittyPieVibeswell I think the thing that Barry constantly gets stuck on is he feels like he’s a victim of Fuches’ manipulation. Which to be fair, he was. But that’s not an excuse in court that will hold up or to any of the victims and their families. So while Barry thinks his apology means anything, the reality is he’s so fucked mentally that he doesn’t even realize that that’s not how the world works/how his victims think.
This season is really driving home how none of the cast are good people. Barry can NOT handle the idea of himself being a bad person no matter what awful shit he does, Sally rationalizes every self-serving thing she does, and Gene cannot resist granting himself adulation at every possible opportunity.
I like this show a lot bc of the things you listed. They're all flawed, Barry is not a good person, and all of the characters routinely turn down good advice. For example, NoHo Hank: "I could go 50/50 w/ Cristobal.." Barry : "Or you could just take the whole thing for yourself."
I guess something that’s kind of head scratching for me with Barry is that in the first or second episode he threatens that guard after the guard says Barry is probably a good guy and I took that as him accepting that he isn’t a good guy but then in this episode he is saying that he is a good guy when on the phone to hank. I initially thought he was just lying to get hank to do what he wants but then it kinda seemed like he believed it which is scary but kinda stumped me.
He's used to people believing his bullshit, and when it doesn't work, he gets hot headed, but if it does (when cousineau says he loves Barry in 3x02 for example), he'll do anything in order to maintain the shrivel of love that he's given That's why he calls Hank, he knows that Hank has gotten Barry's back in the past, but realizes that Hank is done with Barry's bullshit in order to maintain his own relationship with Cristobal, which sets him off
so in the scene with the guard, Bill Hader said on The Ringer podcast that Barry was trying to use the guard to self harm. so he's saying all that shit to get the guard to hurt him. not that hard to believe when he was literally punching a wall until his knuckles started bleeding just a moment earlier. i think he also is just at his lowest point and wants to lean into the idea that he's a monster. but everything changes for him when Sally says she feels safe with him. you can tell in the final scene with the feds that he's hyperfixated on this fantasy that he & Sally are going to have a happily ever after. and when he's talking to Hank, he's not being genuine he's just bullshitting to get what he wants. Hank rightfully calls him a narcissist and the veneer of politeness dissipates immediately. i think a lot of people really underestimate how demented Barry is and has always been. he's never been portrayed as mentally stable, he was just able to fool people who didn't know the truth about him. and after a while he started to fool himself, so the idea that he's a good person is a delusion. one he's struggled with the entire series.
@@balloonfiesta15 i think barry's people pleasing qualities in the first two seasons made it easier to justify it to ourselves that he had more good in him than he actually did. a lot of the characters on the show like gene, sally, fuches, have such huge egos that manifest in self obsession and acting like they have no or minimal faults. barry, on the other hand, clearly dislikes himself from the start and expresses this desire to be better, which the others either don't do or they seldom express it. it makes it seem like his ego might not be as bad. but he was always as self obsessed as the others; i've heard self hatred can be just as egotistical as thinking you're perfect. it's honestly amazing how well bill pulls off this type of self hating, people pleasing narcissism. it's not the usual way we imagine those people to act
I think Sally's "I feel safe around you" inflated his ego/state of denial again. Sally's admittance of that fed into his delusion and explains his change in attitude. In a way it was I think he saw it as her forgiving him and still opening that door despite knowing he's a killer and a "bad guy" makes him think that he is still redeemable again and deserving of a second chance.
at his core Barry's absolutely accustomed to using power (and threats) to get his way, and just uses the nice guy routine as a first option. Real "I'd rather be loved than feared, but if being feared is the only option then that's totally fine with me too" (to paraphrase Homelander) vibes here.
Barry can't even coherently lie well-enough to say "no, I didn't do any of that" to save his life at this point. If he could just calm down a little, he might be able to form a plausible counter-narrative to Gene. Well, the rest of Season 4 happens, so it all ended up working out for Barry, posthumous-image-wise at least.
Though he never admits he did it, and it gives credit to the story he was an easily manipulated trigger man just trying to do whatever Gene wanted, meanwhile Gene’s own stupid decisions also painted him as a mastermind.
there's a couple, Barry feels betrayed that Gene is trying to piggyback off of his story because he felt so close to Gene, like a father. Another reason is because Gene is ruining his chance to getting his life back since he's spreading the bad stuff about barry so barry will get famous for being a hitman

there's a couple, Barry feels betrayed that Gene is trying to piggyback off of his story because he felt so close to Gene, like a father. Another reason is because Gene is ruining his chance to getting his life back since he's spreading the bad stuff about barry so barry will get famous for being a hitman
Also he's mad for turning him in since barry knows Gene did it on purpose, so like with Chris, he knows his relationship with Gene is over
