The Journey | A Western States Endurance Run Story

- Eleven years ago, Brenda had a chance to run Western States, but couldn't. In 2021 she got her chance.
After the global pandemic shut down the 2020 Western States event, it was unknown what the event would look like in 2021. Through all the uncertainty, Brenda toed the line in Olympic Valley. Excruciating blisters, exhaustion, extreme heat, tight cutoffs and much more caused her day to be much tougher than planned.
While the destination of Placer High School is thrilling, the journey we take to get there is equally as important. Brenda is part of a vast group of ultra runners, supporters, training partners, family and friends who made her journey possible and went every step with her.
Watch her Western States journey unfold from Olympic Valley to the finish line at Placer High School in Auburn. - Sport

Thank you for watching!!
Every clip is of her walking. Can you walk the whole thing?
Hey there! No, you can't walk the whole thing. She ran a majority of it. And typically when coming into aid stations or areas I could film her she would be walking or hiking. That's normal for most runners at this race except for elites who fly in and out of aid stations.
You're not required to run, but with a 30hr cutoff for 100 miles, you have to maintain an 18min per mile overall pace. But most people also need to spend time in aid stations getting food and water, changing socks/shoes, replacing ice to keep cool, replacing sunscreen etc.
Cool but the intro is way way too long. I watch for the running.
