Se usou pq não fala qual a música? A música que o restante dos parceiros aí de cima estão falando que o Tim Maia pegou de um gringo é "Right On For The Darkness" de Curtis Mayfield de 1973. E ele nem usou sample dessa música, mas sim inspiração . Ele nem usou Sample, nem plagiou e nem simplesmente PEGOU como disseram aí... Rly, it's uncommon to see any1 doing it. Nobody really cares about brazillian culture. There's soccer, carnival, pretty ladies, beaches and such, but it's a complicated paradise homie. Unequality is its own thing, in its own scale here. And much of it has to do with racism man. Did you know that most of all slaved black folk that were captured in Africa came to Brazil, and it was not only the first in this evil game, it was the last one to get out. Just for anedoctal evidence dude, between 1526 and 1866, 12.5 million africans were shipped to the New World. 10.7 million survived the trip to the Americas, more or less, and only about 388,000 were sent to North America. What I'm saying is, not that it wasn't a tragedy in its own right, with its effects being felt even today in the US, but in Brazil its a whole other dimension. Of these 10 million and something, 5.5 million came to Brazil, like half of all slaves. Brazil was built on black slaves and indian death my brother. The abolition in the US was in 1833, down here only in 1888. Half a century more dude.
In the US there is still racial tensions and whatnot. Police kill black dudes kinda often huh? It also happens in Brazil, but it is so freakinn commonplace and routine, that it does not generates so much commotion you know. Brazil has african music, still remember the names of the african gods and spirits, the heroes, the fables, even the language, not out of respect for their culture, but because of the sheer size of this absolute tragedy. But it is a wound that has never fully healed. And probably will not ever too. In this grim environment came Racionais my fella. Four legends. Poets and gangstas. The tears of the artist, the rage of the poor black man. Rap not about bitches, or disses and whatever, leave this to the playboy whiteboy rapping about Dom Perignon and forever a OG-wannabe. Those dudes are really messed up, tragic heroes. They really lived in squalor, subhuman conditions, victims of the biggest crime against humanity in what, 500 years? 1000? What is worse? IDK, perhaps the Crusades, Mongols and some shit like that.
I'm not really black, even though I have black ancestors too. And i never had to pass through stuff like those men had to, not rich either, but comfortable, given the conditions. I'm not their main target you know, not the poor black dude from the hood. But I know the lyrics of about 20 songs, easily. By heart. Because it screams a voiceless cry man. They had some following in the 90s, but I think it grew in more recent years. It grew to the point that, to enter one of the most prestigious universities here in Brazil, UNICAMP, you have to listen to their album "Sobrevivendo no Inferno"(Surviving in Hell) as a brazillian cultural landmark as important and relevant as its greatest literature classic novels, prose and poems. The parallel would be kinda like having to listen to 2Pac, or Biggie Smalls or Nas or NWA for the SAT test, next to Twain, Hemingway, Fitzgeralt, Sallinger or Harper Lee. Get it? I hope it didn't become exhaustive, I digress easily, not the most straightforward man there is, so I was going to comment, and ended up writing a thesis.(I rlly should be writing mine.)
Out of ignorance, or pure racism, some ppl still think of it as bandit talk, or ghetto rythm that will corrupt young god-fearing white and pretty youth to crimes and weed. It's dumb when out of innocence or naiveté; perverse and wicked when not. If you did read, thanks. Ur very chill, like you a lot my man, I feel like you are a friend I never met. Nostalgic even. And that explains why brazillians are so eager fam, so thirsty when they see an american, the absolute top of the world, far away to us as the stars, and as unreachable, to take an interest in this. We really want ppl to notice us too man. We consume most of everything of the US, but it is, and always was, a one-way street. Thks for this effort, we love it. It brings a little light to our souls, and pulls the stars a little closer, so we feel a little more part of the world. We are not the most cultured or influential culture there is by far, hell there are states in the US with comparable status, but we're here dude, always waiting for the eyes of the developed countries to look down a tiny bit and just give some attention. It means the world to a lot of ppl. You can become huge if u do it right, Racionais is a brazillian trigger mate haha.
