  • This is just a quick tutorial on how to make a bootable OSX USB drive. It will work for Mavericks, Yosemite, and EL Captain. Make sure to download your choice of OS from the Apple App store and once its done it will be in the Applications folder. Then download Diskmaker X:

    Hi I am upgrading to 16gb ram and 1tb ssd (single drive not 2 with raid as previous video)
    I am having problems creating a working bootable disk for os Catalina, should this be straight forward as I simply have the one ssd? Do I still need to use the Catalina patch tool?

    im trying to download diskmaker x but its taking me to a different website. Why is that?

  • @MTimWeaver
    @MTimWeaver Před 6 lety +1

    It doesn't work anymore. When trying to d/l High Sierra, it only d/l a 19mb 'installer' stub, NOT the full 4 or 5GB file. Neither Diskmaker X nor the terminal method work, since it's not a full copy of the OS.

      Thanks so much for the quick response! Do I 'erase' the partition on the USB or the USB itself? If the actual USB is to be erased what does the scheme have to be? Kind of amateur at this :)

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  Před 8 lety

      +Eth Spi well I think diskmaker will format it for you but if you are just asking how to format a usb drive as Mac OS journaled. Use disk utility. Click on the drive you want on the left window. Then on the right you will see a tab that says erase. Click that. And then there is a drop down menu that allows you to choose which way to format and just choose Mac OS journaled. Sorry just doing this from memory. I'm not at a computer.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  Před 7 lety +9

      Its not wrong, its just an "old" video. Apple wants you to install the newest operating system which is Sierra. If you have never downloaded the other two before it just wont allow you to download the older versions. And since thats the case if you do it legally you need to install Sierra. I have not yet done this but I will soon and make an updated video.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  Před 8 lety +1

      Yep same as a laptop. You just need to hold the alt key with the usb plugged in. I'm not sure if a Bluetooth keyboard will work you might need a usb keyboard in order to hold alt on start up to go to the installer

    Thanks so much for posting these amazing vids!! Now I figured since it’s 2020 I would make my bootable usb Mojave.
    I did the whole upgrade to my 2012 Mac, set up the RAIDs but then the installer errors out and you can’t set up Mojave???
    What should I do!??? Any help would be appreciated!

    • @DreDay2000
      @DreDay2000 Před 3 lety

      Read the Readme file. It's permissions issue and you need to add the diskmaker in your allowed programs under Security & Privacy > Accessibility.

    • @IPLAYPEDALSTEEL
      @IPLAYPEDALSTEEL Před 3 lety

      Dreday2000 actually it’s not thought, right? Mojave doesn’t support raid. And now all the programs I need (live-streaming) won’t run on anything older that Mojave so I can’t use a raid at all!
      Is there any new modern way to enhance the performance of drives?

      Before you start your system you need to plug the bootable usb in and hold the alt key while turning it on. This will take you to the installer
