The newest Wyze Cam has arrived, the Wyze Cam v4! This is my full in-depth review of the v4. I take a deep dive into the new features and compare the video from the Wyze Cam v4 side by side with the previous Wyze Cam OG.

I have six of the V4 on my boat and I can’t believe the video quality! I had the V3 for four years and not a single problem in saltwater environment!

@Sappho123 oh yeah, I have a few v3s but that's an awful comparison IMHO. The v3s came out years ago and the v3 pro and OG have both been released since.
@Sappho123 well, one of the upgrades of the v4 is wifi 6. It still uses 2.4ghz but 6 has much better range. Could help??

@Sappho123 wifi 6 had better range. Therefore you'll get a better wifi connection on the cams. If it's your actual Internet connection that sucks ... Then you're out of luck.
Let's us know how it REALLY compares from app audio TO camera, the clarity, picture day and night , notification speed etc. VERSUS version 3 Thanks
Great Video! One question. Wyze records video's in 1 minute increments on the SD card. Which program are you using to stitch them together?
Well, I haven't tried to stitch directly from card. I mostly pull them from the app. Basically you cue it up to what you want to save and hit record as it plays. Not ideal but had worked for me.
Used wyze since v1, pretty much worth it and easy to manage. Havent had any major issues

Nice review. I have a couple V3s and the sound isn’t great, but I use one for a pet camera to watch my bird and to talk to him. Can you do a comparison between V3 and V4 for pet communication audio? Thanks

So I had nest before. Now I just purchased my first wyze camera the V4, I just installed a 128gig card in it, formatted it, clicked on continuous recording and went through the settings a couple times. But In my ‘recents’ all I see are still frames, no videos. It says I need ‘cam plus’ to record videos. Does this new model not record videos without the cam plus subscription? First WYZE cam I’ve purchased.

Hi, Thank you so much for this review. I've been looking and researching for the most suitable security camera, that's easy to use and setup. I've already ordered 2 other cameras and I've had to return them! This has been no joke. OK, I have a few questions and I've checked out the Wyze website and only one of my questions were answered. So, please can you let me know if:
The alarm and siren can be switched off permanently?
Do the lights become visible at night time especially, to a passer by?

Hi!! Glad you enjoyed the review. Yes, the alarm can be turned off entirely. Both the spotlight and any other indication lights can be turned off completely. Hope that helps!!
I noticed with a couple cameras[wyze, Yi] that were outside getting direct sunlight the plastic was getting kind of a dullness to it like car headlights I'm thinking about coating them with those UV wipes that they use for plastic headlight covers it's just a wipe on wipe off
Interesting idea. Would you coat the lense too or just the white housing plastic?

I watch you on the news every morning. Discovered this video. I have 6 Wyze cameras and a lot of their other products for years. I'm moving to another manufacturer (Eufy). Wyze's V3 cam couldn't hold a Wifi connection that V2 had no trouble with. I hate subscriptions even with a grandfathered deal from Wyze. The latency for the cloud interaction is bad and often requires restarting the Wyze app. I'll pay more for better dependability.
👋 Love my Colorado peeps!! Yeah, Eufy is a great alternative if you want to avoid cloud stuff but their gear is definitely more $$. I haven't had many if the wyze problems you describe and I've been using since gen 1 but I also HATE paying for cloud services. At least wyze still gives us the sd option, right? Also, v4 has much improved wifi, not sure if that would fix your issues. Cheers! Back to the 📺
@TechItBeforeYouWreckIt I've gone to central disk storage (5 t) of camera vids with Eufy. I have 65+ wifi devices with a 4 router mesh environment.
About to order 4 of these! Great review!
My questions are two: (1) Does it come with a 5v power adapter? (2) Is there a PC app or other means to transmit video to a laptop or desktop computer instead of a phone? Thanks for any responses!
It comes with a normal wal wart plug. That's it. And the only pc option is a website that you can use to hire the cameras but it requires a subscription 😕
The Only Feature I want to know about is the mic... Is it better at picking up (coherent) sound over the past models.
The video section of my review does show some actual sound recorded with the camera. If that's helpful?

It still shows the still then you need to hit the Sd Card button (underneath the pic on the left) and it should jump right to that spot on your SD card.

I have two of the v4 but ever since I downloaded the new cameras, it is making my phone unresponsive at times when I’m trying to go back and look at previous videos. Extremely frustrating because I like all of the features but I’m not sure what to do about it.
Super weird. Iphone or Android? Tried removing and reinstalling the app?
I phone I did remove and install the app and it still having the same issues. Not sure what’s going on.

I would have liked to known what all you can do with a camera with just the SD card and no subscription. You get everything you can do with the version 3 with the new version 4?
Yes, it's exactly the same as a V3. You get no cloud recording, etc.
Nice camera, but for 6 dollars more you can get: WYZE Cam Pan v3 Indoor/Outdoor IP65-Rated 1080p Pan/Tilt/Zoom Wi-Fi with Motion Tracking for Baby & Pet, Color Night Vision, 2-Way Audio, Works with Alexa & Google Assistant. Do you think the V3 I mentioned is the better deal? I have one and I love it, but I just bought the one to check it out.
I do like the pan models but not for every scenario. Thx for watching my vid!

What if you have never hooked up any indoor/outdoor camera. How do I start?
It's pretty easy. Plug it in, load the app on your phone and follow the instructions. I feel like anyone could do it. :)
I only get 360 quality w/ Wyze Cam v4 w/ Tiny cam pro app when other 1080 cameras give 1080-- Thx
Tried tiny cam with mine and had the same issue. Not sure what's up here but I'm pretty sure wyze wants you to use their app. :/

You can set the camera so the spotlight never goes on.

So I have a crazy story. Have a bunch of wyze v2's work well. Decided to upgrade to eufy 340's with the base station. Installed the eufy's with the base station, a lot more expensive then the wyze. The detection was horrible, range was bad for what I need. My wyze v2 detect cars coming in my driveway from 75 ft away. The eufy with the setting maxed gave me 30 ft. I am now looking at wyze pan v3 and a v4 cost $70 vs $550. I am also using them to detect animals not security. The eufy was a great camera but more for security not for getting cool animal picts I want.
Wyze rules the budget wifi camera world IMHO. I've tried so many others and keep coming back.

Yup. Works exactly the same. Must have SD card installed.
I still wanna see wyze do a rechargeable battery so I can use it outside with out having to plug it in

Yeah but it doesn’t have an usb out so you can’t daisy chain and power a camera off another and so on. So multiple cams need multiple wires and plugs/outlets

No. Wifi is always backwards compatible. You don't need a wifi 6 router to use the wyze v4.
2.4 GHz will work
It's clearer than v3, but does not support Cam Protect.

Another componet WYZE is putting on the market like Kodak you need film or a subscription. NO RTSP yet and may never be ever offered. No external storage. Keep it out of the reach of intruder and the micro SSD card should be helpful.
I remember when my dream pc had a 600mhz CPU.
Right!?! I remember I had to set a buffer on Winamp, so it would pre buffer the mp3 for 5 seconds so the computer could keep up. Those were the days!!!
Can you zoom in and out. ?
Yeah, you can zoom in and out but it's software zoom. Basically cropping the image in software. Works pretty easily though
So it's like the wyze cam floodlight pro. ?
Your security cameras
Having a removable memory card in the camera is not a plus. If the camera gets stolen, then the video is gone as well. But once again Wyze is releasing new product without fixing the previous ones or the software. I've seem this camera compared to the V3 and I felt the V3 picture quality was much better, at least for outside views.
Yes, I agree, central server storage would be more secure. But we're talking about a $30 camera here. If you want local separate storage you should probably be shopping for a more expensive system. Also, cloud storage is always an option if you're ok paying the fee.
Such broad general statements. You think the picture quality is better on the v3 ? Is dial up internet better then cable ? You seem to know so much about all of this stuff, you should start your own company.

@@johnevery9617 Only know what my eyes see. I've known a lot of products that had better specs but it didn't show. If you think the V4 has a better pictures quality, great to buy it. I don't, so I won't buy it. Plus, Wyze does these small improvements so their customers are fooled into buying all new cameras. When they sell a 4K camera with zoom and they get their software actually working as advertised, then I'll replace my V3 cameras.

Wyze was great when it first came out, but now it forces you to pay for monitoring, without which you get essentially no useful functionality. It's the very definition of crippleware. Better stuff out, for the same price. And DO NOT upgrade your firmware or your app if you have a working system.

I don't disagree. I loved when the cloud stuff was included. Although they didn't offer a free way to obtain it for legacy users, which j appreciated. The unfortunate changes even companies are trying to make $. 😢

@katbeed the concept is that once it's working, a future firmware update can't mess things up. I don't agree with this. Firmware often fixes security holes, etc. some think Wyze has taken away features and stuff, which is partially true, but all software based products are evolving creatures for better or worse.

This camera is total rubbish. Wyze need to review the software for this v4 .The SD card playback crashes after 10gb storage. No person detection. Go with the cam v3 pro or lorex or blink with free cloud storage.
