Warner Bros HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Season 2 premiere racked up nearly 8 Million views in the United States ALONE on opening night (Sunday) according to Warner across all platforms (HBO and MAX Streaming). Compared to Disney Star Wars The Acolyte which pulled in 4.8 Million views GLOBALLY over it first 24 hours, House of The Dragon was the HUGE winner here. Both of these shows landed with similar production budgets and healthy marketing campaigns by Warner Bros and Disney respectively.

Imagine that a single episode of The acolyte was around the same budget they had for Godzilla minus one. Let that sink in.
It's even worse than that as one episode of acolyte is about 30% MORE than godzilla minus one
$750000 per minute!? No wonder they can't pay their stockholders' dividends.
Somehow the cost does not seem to match the quality of production of what is on screen in Acolyte. This is not Avator where their world is in CGI in Avatar with multiples of CGI characters. Where did the money actually go?

Since the beginning, Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon has included DEI and LGTBQ+ but has focused on storytelling, character development, dialogue, and acting instead of personal agendas and real-world, contemporary social constructs. Disney and Lucasfilm have ruined their IPs by forcing the opposite content.

They even took some probably studio-mandated race-swapping and turned it around into something which made the story even better than the original book. When the actors' performances are great that also helps.

They can't really do that. Most anyone who would have the ability and desire to buy LucasFilm knows just how badly damaged the property is. Disney would have to take a massive loss. While the Disney company could easily absorb a loss of that size, their reputation would take a massive hit in the market. Then their stock would take a huge hit and there would almost certainly be significant repercussions for the current C-suite. Selling LucasFilm at any sort of a loss would probably mean Iger and most if not all of the current board would be out.

The last time they tried to create such a series, created by a progressive writer, pretty much nobody watched it. As someone who has watched "progressive" media from decades past, if someone can't present an idea in an interesting, non-divisive way, that usually means they need to work on their writing skills, not resort to blaming the world for refusing to accept a single project by a beginner, something that is quite common, by the way.
Well, that's because the creators of house of the dragon didn't completely change all the world building that had been done by Game of Thrones, they didn't spit in the face of what fans already like.Once you know people like something there's no reason to reinvent the wheel.

Had a bunch of friends and acquaintances express excitement for HOTD season 2 last week.
Not a single word about the Acolyte before its premiere to now.
Haven't had a chance to watch the HOTD s2 premiere yet, but I'm more than happy to add to their viewership numbers.
House of the Dragon, Season 2, Episode 1 is a MASTERPIECE compared to The Acolyte especially! Gorgeous/believable sets, costumes, dialogue, acting, plot, story, special effects! 10 of 10. Acolyte 2 of 10. Everyone was busy this Sunday. I didn’t see HOD until last night.

@@TrigonAZR Rotten Tomatoes is majority owned by NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast so I guess it would come down to how much money Comcast is willing to burn on that. It's certainly possible that they could survive indefinitely that way but they would be an even bigger joke than they are now. I guess I have to wonder if Comcast is willing to burn money on something that nobody would even care about?
Don't forget that not every country has max. Here in Canada to legally watch house of the dragon you need to be subscribed to the streaming service called crave. So the numbers could be even higher once you account for all streaming services that it airs on.
Ireland checking in & can confirm House of the Dragon is huge here &.UK too. It's broadcast same time as USA (2am here), with next day reruns & on demand service. Most people watch next day due to time difference though. Sky tv show it & have a Long running partnership deal with HBO
Watched 4 episodes of HOD season 1 last night and loved it! Never watched the original series, but this was new one was excellent
If you enjoy this series, you need to go back and watch Game of Thrones.It's all there even if you don't like the last couple of seasons the first five seasons are some of the best v that has ever been on television...

I would say that each episode of The Acolyte wrecks itself. The total lack of logic is inescapable, and transcends all the claims of racism and sexism as a defense for their ESG failures.
I don't think a lot of people are even aware that Season 2 of House of the Dragon is out. I mentioned it at work and no one seemed aware of it.

I am glad house of the dragon is so good, I needed something to wash the bad taste out of my mouth after the acolyte. this will give us something good to discuss. we can put the acolyte in the rear view mirror, and enjoy a well written well done show. plus dragons are da bomb!
House of the Dragon have strong female as well as strong male lead roles. We have different races represented with inter-racial relationships. We have same sex relationships represented (remember Laenor Velaryon and Ser Qarl Correy), yet I love the programme. The ONLY problem with the House Of The Dragon was the premiere time. I get up offensively early for work so staying up to watch a show from 9-10pm is a no go. I usually catch the episodes 2-3 days later. Ill be watching it tonight, can't wait!!

House of the dragon is how you make a great tv show. Loved every second of it. HBO misses sometimes but in general they know how to do it better than anyone else.

I love Star Wars so much, that I am in two costuming organizations for charity/community. I love this franchise, but OMG, what Kathleen Kennedy has done since Disney's acquisition, it is unforgivable. Star Wars was already diverse by an organic nature. There was ZERO need for forced diversity and wokeness.
I think the critic scores could be deleted at this point. They have no credibility.

House of the Dragon is on Crave (in canada) hosted by Amazon Prime and the video quality was so poor at 9pm on Sunday that we turned it off and waited a day to watch it. It was like watching a 6 frame per second vs 24 frames per second.
When we say "cable" does that also include Satellite or is Satellite separate?

I watched the start of season 2 of HOTD and it was very good, while I not bothered with Acolyte, everything I seen from that, kind of has me asking "Where did the money go on this?"

I would like to know much House of the Dragon costs per episode compared the Acolyte. It is hard to believe that Acolyte costs 22 million an episode. Star Trek Discovery cost about 10 to 15 million an episode. Where exactly does the money go for the Acolyte and in who's pockets. Other than a few space scenes, and some bigger sets and a few seconds of flying machines, productions does not look impressive on the Acolyte to warrant the cost per episode.
Would love someone to do a cost breakdown to see where all the money goes for these double digit millions per episode. Except for Trinity, all of the other actors and actresses are relative unknowns, so it can't be the talent costing that much.
As trash as Disney is with Star Wars they gave us the gem Andor.
It's peak Star Wars and up there with my favorites ROTJ and ROTS.
I’m actually one of those people that sign up for max after the season is over and binge watch it during the free trial.
I had to watch it all, to be fair in my review and see if its a bad as everyone was saying, so viewing ratings mean nothing for Acolyte, as its the Blu rays, merch and rewatch rating is what makes it a success, I could'nt sit through any of them episodes again.

GOT was 11,12,13,14,15,16,17,%19...all in April and THAT is how it got momentum it got rolling and stayed rolled you cant let an audience cool off...
Does HBO/Max release numbers worldwide through other platforms such as Sky Atlantic/Now TV in the UK, or OCS in France. That would be a more balanced comparison since Disney keep raving about their worldwide viewership.
