    Russ, i just want to send big thanks from me here in the uk for ALL your tutorials. ive been watching your footage for months and months and today i decided to jump straight in and buy my very first drone. (mavic pro) its a used one but hopefully its as described, fully working order with very little signs of wear. your videos are more watchable and easier to understand than lots of others as most others seem to think its a competition to see who can talk fastest. i'm due to take delivery of mine this week so i'll let you know then how good your tutorials really are. dont worry Russ, if i crash, i'll not blame you!! haha

    I'm planning my second motorcycle trip to the Arctic circle along the Dempster highway. It is such a vast area. This is exactly what I wanted to do. Set a fly path and have the drone cross in front of me as I crest one of those hills and then follow me down the road. I'm buying my drone in a couple of weeks.. so excited. Thanks for what you do.

    I agree with what you're doing and am very grateful for that but in my case learning something completely new sometime a little mind boggling.
    A few years ago I used to fly fixed wing and that got the adrenaline going, and I dare say that flying the Mavic is a great deal easier than them fixed wings I used to buzz around the flying site,
    But nowadays for us oldies things have moved on big time, and I am going to get one of these Mavic Pro as a retirement pressie for me and I'm grateful for any info I can get so I can fly safely and get it back in one piece! And I guess that's what you guys are doing, please keep up the good work and keep making videos for us old boys. Xx

    Really late in the piece but just here to say really loving the tutorials on the Mavic pro... just bought a barely used Platinum and absolutely love the thing... Flymore, 4 batteries, cam filters a plenty, mains and car chargers, prop guards, Spare props till 2030!! Hard case... For an absolute bargain.. all she needed was a PC connection and a firmware upgrade lol.. Bargain!!
    These things are such a capable and solid drone... Will be for years to come hopefully too!

      I wrote down your tutorial instructions to take with me. I just got some time today to try. It took a little bit longer for me to follow your tutorial. I do not blame your tutorial at all as I believe it was spot on. What I think may have happened was that we either had a different version (4.x) or OS (iOS vs Android) of the app. When I did mine this morning I was on DJI Go 4.0.8 iOS. The steps you took were in reverse for me, so I had to skip ahead and do your steps in reverse order. Some of the settings you mentioned were named differently in my DJI Go 4 or not there at all. So I took my time trying to match your settings to mine. I was able to create a waypoint driven flight around Mountains Edge Regional Park that can found on my channel.
      You know how in your video at 3:11 you started off with get into position, 327 feet, horizon at top of screen, start waypoint settings, then you said to hit C1 -> move into place -> turn left or right with left stick -> focus -> C1 -> back to course -> move to next place and repeat. My app opened to a screen where it made me record the waypoints first, save them, then do the setup settings.
      The things that were named differently or not there at all were:
      3:59 There was not a gear in the upper right corner, I had a star there. The waypoints settings screen appeared after saving mission.
      4:01 "Aircraft heading" was just "Head to:" in my app. The aircraft headings are different- Adjustable Heading, Route-linked heading, Free.
      "Flight Mission Complete" was just "Mission Complete" in my app but the settings were the same- land or hover
      "Flight Velocity" was just "Speed" in my app, "Apply" was the last option
      Then you set the RTH altitude on the next screen, hit apply
      The waypoints were then uploaded, you click "Exit", then mission started.
      Sorry for the long post, I kept editing until I made it short as possible. This may help someone who might run into the same thing I did. Thanks for videos and keep up the hard work.

    While the go app does offer some pretty neat options the waypoint procedure is not near as good as what Litchi has to offer. We are going to Mexico in a few weeks and I have all the missions all setup already using google maps so when I get there I just run the missions without all the fiddling required when using the go app. Just my opinion of course. As alway great video Russ and nice to see you act responsibly regarding the fire etc good job all around.

    1.if you start saved wp and mavic is 10m from point 1, it will go at point 1 and start flying to point 2... Is there any option so you can pause the mavic right at that point 1 to hover and wait for event to begin(because if u are not right on the piont 1 and you start, you will lost some time while mavic reach point 1 and start flying waypoints
    ...sorry if I am complicated :)

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  Před 7 lety

      zolaneger I know exactly what you mean, and I think the only way to do it is to hit the stop button, fly manually to WP1 and then go back in and start the saved mission. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I think that's the only way.

      I believe that in order to utilize the Intelligent Flight Modes that use GPS, you need a phone with a SIM card. I am not positive though. I know that you can still fly without service, it's just limited. I will do some research.

    Nice video thanks. Quick question: if I want to do a backwards reveal in waypoints, is that possible? Will the drone know the direction it is flying between the waypoints?

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  Před 7 lety

      mdmcfp You can do backwards reveal if you either set that position when you set the waypoint or with Free Mode. You could run an entire mission facing backwards as long as that's how the heading is set when you lock in the waypoint.

    I got a question for you about waypoints that no one else seems to know. I recently played with Waypoints for the first time (2 Million feet and finally playing... ) Set up a quick mission, flew it a couple of times, Discontinued the flights and flew around some more. I get home and was looking at my flight records and on every Waypoint trip, there is nothing recorded on the log. It shows a short flight out and then Nothing. The next record is sometime later and shows origination in midair. Both End and start appear to be close to the start of the waypoint. I made the mistake of posting to the DJI official forum and I've gotten everything about how the video is broken in part due to the format style of the SD. Nothing to do with the flight record. I've examined the flight through PhantomHelp and it shows nothing. I was wondering since you did the tutorial, did anything happen to your logs??

    Hi,
    Nice video.
    If you alter altitude in between way points when setting them will it also slowly change during flight to get that cinematic look?

      Hey Scott! Great question, and one that I regrettably wish I would have answered in this video, so I created this one as a response to your question! czcams.com/video/mwDkchLfwvE/video.html

    If a waypoint is at a different height to the previous one, does the Mavic climb during the journey or does it get to the waypoint and then adjust the altitude?
    Can you get it to pause so you can take a photo from a set waypoint? I’m thinking of using it for time lapse photography for a building project...
    By the way, how did the highway project come out?

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  Před 5 lety +1

      It climbs during the mission. You can not pause a mission once it has started. They are still working on it. I got some footage of it the other day. I plan to post an update soon!

      I literally hate it when I lose footage or write over a memory card of construction progress. It's key to stay consistent, but things happen! But you have the before footage and thats all that really matters! @@51Drones

  • @mikekleinwolterink4983

    Is there a way to adjust the height of the drone once you record your last way point before it automatically returns to the 1st way point?? I crashed my drone into a tree today because it started to return to the 1st way point before I could hit stop at a height that wasn't above the trees because I wanted lower attitude for the video. I also tried to raise the drone with the left stick when I was trying to save it and that didn't work. It would be great if the drone would go to the RTH before traveling back to that 1st way point.

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  Před 5 lety

      Nope. Once you hit apply, it will fly at the current altitude. Yes, it would be nice if it went up first.

    my waypoints don't upload to the Mavic.
    They did the first time I tried a waypoint mission.
    But now when I enter waypoints, hit done the message giving your height is in red & the mission upload fails.
    Anyone have any ideas please

      First thing I would do is watch ALL of my videos on the Mavic. :-) Then, don't fly above 400'. It can high. Really high. But don't. Just my advice.

    Question... In the video, you said that when running a saved waypoint course, it uploads it to the Mavic.. Does this mean it will then run the course, even if the controller is switched off, or loses contact?
