Thanks for watching my Mavic Pro Time-lapse video! Comment with your best time-lapse tip or best time-lapse video. I would like to see what others are creating!
Being sort of lazy, I am just recording 4k and then do hyper-lapse in post, see here: czcams.com/video/tiuVmD_3sDA/video.html
Hello did you ever used Dji GsPro i think it is only availible for ipad but it works like waypoints but it is better because you can pre plan your flight so you donot have too fly the path a first time and also you can make your cablecam as long as you want because you can use multiple batteries because it returns to where it has stopped.
By doing so you can also do an awsome day to night hyperlapse when you overlap 2 hyperlapses.
Hope i could help you advance your projects.
I must be doing something wrong. Did the first example, but in not getting a hyperlapse
This is awesome! Your videos are one of a kind, showing us the how to's then given great footage examples along with the instructions. Keep up the great work! You gained a follower.

Watched steps 1-5 and wondered 'How'd i do this with Litchi'.... then voila, step 6 appeared.. Nice one Jeff, great informative and easy to follow videos as usual..
Thanks BastardSquad! I really like Litch. Really nice to have the option to be able to set up way-points during flight or from the desktop.
Good and Nice bro
thumbs up
Awesome
Thank you!
Excellent. Thanks! Do you notice a difference between 30fps and 60fps? If so, does that mean that 1080 lapses would be smoother than 4K?
Thank you too much man
Nice video man
Thanks Haidz!
Very well done and useful, thank you! Is Litchi another app?
great video but how did you do the timeslapse? are you using the premiere pro?

On the Point of Interest feature after all the steps you need to tap focus before hit the record button ?
Hi there Jeff. Thanks for this lovely video and tips on timelapse options. Just a quick question does the litchi app work with the mavic air. I have been flying for about 5 months now first 4 months with my spark and the recently sold it and got my mavic air. Always wanted to use way points option but only to find out that it is not included in the mavic air so was considering buying the litchi app. Your inputs will help me decide. Thanks again.
Hi Kim, Litchi does not support the Mavic Air yet. But i believe this planned to be supported in the near future. Just a matter of DJI sharing the software code like they have for other models. I use Litchi on the Mavic Pro and hoping the Mavic Air support will be added soon.
Great video! I'm to have a crack at a few of these 👍 I think that interval mode would even out well in Adobe premiere with warp stabiliser and/or tracking.
kamasutraninja cool give it a shot. Agreed, adding stabilization in post makes a big difference
Great channel Jeff...SUB
Chipper thank you sir, welcome to the group!
I just stumbled upon your videos, this is excellent work. Did you speed up footage in post?
Hi Trini, thanks and welcome to the channel! Yep I sped up in post using either retiming or speed ramping in final cut pro x.
Having issues getting the interval settings on the mavic pro! Anyone able to help? Is this for Mavic pro or platinum?
Greetings from a brazilian Mavic pilot. Congrats, very didatical way to teach how to do time lapse. Too bad I can only hit the like button once.
BTW, which app do you use to speed up your movies?
Thank you Pericles for the thumbs up. I appreciate the feedback. Happy Flying all the way in Brazil !
Hey Jeff. I saw Winnipeg in your missions. I'm from Winnipeg. ;) Thanks for the vid.
Moved to LA in 2012.
Hi Sheldon, awesome. I've been there twice now. Nice place. Seems i can no longer fly there as a non-canadian.
How did you get your video to come out in Hyperlapse? I fly a Mavic Pro..
so if im speeding up the playback speed and saving that as a video what speed is ideal ?
1:57 When you stabilize a clip like this in post it works absolute perfect.
Thanks Peter for commenting. I tried this a couple more times after posting the video with the stabilization in post. Works like a charm!
Jeff Greene No problem :)
Great video. Why is the horizon so crooked at 2:35?
Yes indeed. Some days the mavic has a mind of its own and likes to think it is in fixed wing mode
😀
Thank you Jeff, the video is very informative. On the time-lapse, are you speeding it up in the post editing process?
Angi English yes, exactly, just a simple speed ramp in final cut pro or other editor.
Thank you. Really great tutorials you are doing.
Angi English thank you for the positive vibes. I've been having alot of fun putting these together.
i think it would be good to see these techniques with a strong nd filter and dragging the shutter as it just looks like sped up video. i really appreciate the techniques though.
Thanks for the thumbs up newie! I hear you. 9/10 times i shoot video and just speed up in post to get a time-lapse affect. I would rather not waste the short battery time just to get 1 time-lapse shot. I wonder if the dark ND filter might introduce too much blur/float for time-lapse photos. Have you tried this?
Hi Jeff have you found that 3 mph of movement gives the best speed up video? Just wondering as I did some tests this morning at 1 mph and it does not smooth out any minor wind disturbances. I am going to try other speeds as soon as the weather clears up. Just wondering if you tested various mph runs. I think I have to find the sweet spot for my drone to see what mph will smooth out any minor external disturbances. Thank you.
Hi Jack, good question. I have not specifically tested different speeds for timelapse, only found that slower is better. The reason i use Tripod mode for this purpose is 1-for the slow speed, but 2-because i can go full throttle in Tripod in any direction, and then just worry about the left stick. Any slight variation in speed(shaky fingers/hand/right stick) will mess up the timelapse. So if i just go full throttle (in Tripod mode), the result is much smoother in the end.
bro whats ur backround sound ?
This is not how to shoot time-lapse, but how to shoot in different capture modes. You NEVER talked about how to make it look like a true Time-lapse video by speeding up the frame rate or compressing time with video. But I understand it, your video doesn't explain that.
Bruce Christianson did he ever address how to make it time lapse? Do you have to do that in post? Or can it be done in cam
Best bet is to do the interval photo and then go to quicktime. Just make sure all images are jpeg or converts from DNG to jpeg. Once in quicktime go to File, Open Image Sequence, Select your 1st image and just play with the frame rate until you find something that's a relatively smooth video.
it's not software video, not about some sony vegas or premiere, so everything is good in video. Best time lapse goes from photos, not video, also all photos you should capture in raw.
I don’t understand how he sped up the footage. Can it be done in the DJI app?
@@rowanmoon7102 no mate. He is 'Speed ramping' in his post production software like Premier or Davinci Resolve.
Can you please tell me witch ND filters you are using? Thank you!
I am using the Polar Pro ND filters. There is a link in the description to the ones that i purchased. Happy Flying!
So are you having it take timed camera
shots during all those modes?
nope all of them are shot using video, except the one interval shot. I just speed up the video afterwards in the video editor. I get much better results with time-lapse using video instead of interval shots.
What do u prefer?Interval Photos or make movie for fastforwarding?
Hi Bezkresny, video always. I have found that there's just too much movement between photos.
What happened to how make these shots a time-lapse?
What program do you recomend for editing the timelapse?
Hi Charles, i have been using FCP x for several years now and have been very happy with it. Seems to be quite a few creative plugins that people come up with to keep things evolving as well.
Jeff knows why you are best to use speed up video when using a DJI drone. Try taking interval shots with your DJI drone just sitting on a table. You will look at the pictures taken when stitched an be amazed at how awful the gimbal works with Interval pictures. They jump around just sitting on a table, so you have to learn a new techniques perfected by Rufus Blackwell where he takes 4k video and breaks up the video into 2 second intervals and frame blends each one of those 2 second intervals to represent a single frame. This will produce the Blur every good time lapse creator searches for. Until DJI creates a gimbal that produces solid aligned pictures as a baseline when just sitting on a table, you are pretty much out of luck creating a time lapse with their drones. I have a P4P and Inspire 2 with X5S and they do the have the same problem when taking Interval pictures just sitting on a table. Jeff produced some pretty good time lapses here with speed up video. When you get a Chance lookup Rufus Blackwell and you will be amazed with the Time Warp Lapses he creates. Warp stabilizer has its limits when you are working with a terrible baseline when just sitting on a table. Give it a try and test it just sitting there on a table. Good luck with your time lapse pursuits.
Thanks for the detailed info Jack. Very helpful!
I think only technique 2 produce true time lapse movie, others are just fast forward mode, unless you speed up the movies more and painstakingly process the movies so that frame freezes between key frames.
Dictionary Definition of time-lapse : of, relating to, or constituting a motion picture made so that when projected a slow action (such as the opening of a flower bud) appears to be speeded up.🤔 hmmm, you may be right.....or it may be that the definition of what is a "slow action" is debatable?
in a sense, movie is also timelapse... only 25 or 30fps :) The biggest drawback of flying a drone for 'real' timelapse, is that it moves in the air, while most timelapses are shot on a tripod.
In a sense timelapse with drone, especially when moving, is called hyperlapse, where you get the same 'shakiness', so... if you want to remove that 'move' of the drone, look for techniques they use, like warp stabilisation.
Biggest reason for using 'photo' timelapse, is that your resolution is going to be much higher, and, if shooting RAW, you have way more control over the endresult (and you can zoom in if you want).
But Jeff knows why you are best to use speed up video when using a DJI drone. Try taking interval shots with your DJI drone just sitting on a table. Appreciate your video, but the thing I didn't understand in watching this is: You did time lapse in photo mode, I get that, but when shooting in video mode, it appears you simply shot a video, then sped it up in post. Am I right? If so it would be edited video, not time lapse. Or did you use an app to create time lapse from video? Am I missing something?
Ken Wade yep you are absolutely correct. I guess it just depends on the definition of timelapse. Speeding up a series if images, whether taken at 30fps, or 1/sec?
POI 👍🏽
All this modes on the phantom 4?
Yes sir, certainly on the P4.
