I have the K2 on my R1200GS and got knocked off from behind last year and the footage was invaluable as the Police used it as evidence to prosecute the driver and also for insurance. Nice detailed video, good production and detail, lots of time making this quality video, many thanks. I wonder if it's worth trying to mount the cameras with some minor shock mounting, ie rubber grommets of some kind, to help mitigate camera shake? Perhaps Innov will eventually upgrade the system with some form of image stabilisation in the future. However, I can see that being implemented only on the flagship K5 model, with added cost..but eventually might trickle down to the lower models. Also, a low-cost sacificial lens cover might be nice too, certainly for the front camera, as I imagine over time, scratched lenses are inevitable.

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 2 lety

      You make interesting points but I feel this is an evidential camera NOT really a vlogging one. I use GoPros for that. It does come with rubber pads but my experience is that allows ‘bounce’. See my K2 video. I would like to see better image quality before stabilisation for sure. 1080p is fine. I’ve had my K2 for 2 years with lots of wipes as in rain they’re quickly dirty but no deterioration so far👍🏻

      @@nickhodgeUK Hello Nick, thanks for your reply. I think you are right, the Innovv is not quite designed to replace a GoPro or two..sadly...but no doubt with some development, they might be in the future. For sure GoPros are better for that task. The issue with them is battery life, are they on?? Those sorts of things. Hi Stephen. It would ‘see’ the beak from the offside too. I felt mostly it’s people pulling out and they would generally come from near side. It’s the flip of a coin really. If I wasn’t so fussy I’d make a bracket for up near headlight so it’s front and centre 👍🏻

    Thanks for the video. I'm looking for an innov myself, either the K3 or K5. The K3 is definitely more in my price range for sure. I just want a fairly priced unit with front and rear cameras that is easy to use. If you have any insight it would be greatly appreciated. TIA

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Kevin. It really depends what you are doing with it. For evidence purposes the K3 is totally fine and most importantly over cheaper units, reliable. Fit and forget. I check it’s working before setting off on major rides and that’s it. I do use the footage in some videos and it’s perfectly adequate and offers the shot when the GoPro wasn’t in or a slightly different angle. I only use 1080p (even on my 4K GoPros) as few people view in 4K and it is much more intensive to edit and process. Also the K3 is much easier to site as the cameras and DVR unit are separate whereas the DVR incorporates the front camera in the K5 to allow for the throughput on signal so it’s a camera in a big box at the front. If you must have 4K then you must have the K5 but with more people watching videos on smaller devices you may be spending unnecessarily. Hope that helps? 👍🏻

    Great video, thank you! My only question is does the direct connection to the battery drain it? I've heard some comments in the past about other cameras that having that issue :(

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 2 lety +1

      No. The camera switches off completely as soon as the switch wire (yellow) gets a signal the ignition is off (in fact the power supply maintains a short period of power after this signal to ensure the last files are safely written). What DOES drain many batteries are trackers as they are powered 24/7 for obvious reasons and motorcycle batteries are small. My bike is connected at all times to a ‘smart’ charger

Another thing does the wi-fi will connect automatically when I turn in my motorcycle or I have to connect it manually? I have also noticed that part of my drive was not recorded is this normal? Thanks for your kind assistance

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety +1

      Edmund. I think you misunderstand the capabilities. The WiFi and video is not designed for ‘real time’ playing and indeed there is little need for it and it would just be.a distraction. The WiFi ‘output’ should connect automatically but you will normally need to connect your phone to the Innovv unless your phone is set to ‘always connect to known networks’ and it’s the only known network it can see but as I say, ‘streaming’ is not a recognised function so it is also not necessary to connect to WiFi continuously 🤞🏻

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Richard. It is over buying a K2 new v a K3 new but if you already have a K2 it’s a little more difficult to justify. Definite positives are the remote. The bitrate increase has improved the quality somewhat. The rubber door in the DVR is a big plus if like me your K2 has 3 tiny screws as if you want to use footage you’re taking that door off!! Mic is of no interest to me but may be to many??

    • @richardd9976
      @richardd9976 Před 3 lety

      @@nickhodgeUK My K2 must be a later iteration as it already has the rubber door over the SD card slot. The mic is of some interest to me - simply because the on board sound is so awful on my K2 - recording under the seat. (Here's an example - czcams.com/video/kcMVSGXjGCQ/video.html.
      Overall, I think it would not be worth the upgrade but I have considered fitting the K2 to my "second" bike and investing in a new K3 for my GS. What about the K5? 4K but a strange form factor for the main unit...

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety

      I think the K2 may still fetch £100+ is another consideration. The K5 has 4K and the faster WiFi but the 4K files will be huge and faster WiFi probably offsets that. I only use my Innovv for evidential and the many occasions the GoPro is either not on or the battery’s flat!! I only use 1080P on my GoPro so really not interested in 4K. The DVR being part of the front camera also makes it a much more difficult fit I would think. Over my K2 the new metal connectors and the rubber door made it for me 🤣👍🏻

      The Mac side will be fine. All you have to do with any motorcycle is connect a battery and find a switched wire to plumb into. As most stuff is under seats just head to the rear light is what I’d do and use a positap to ‘break’ into it without too much damage. Good luck

  • @Bazza47

    Some nice tips there Nick in a very comprehensive video👍. I had problems with the front gromet being pushed through on the side panels even after greasing them so now I rotate the panel up and forward so clockwise on the battery panel before trying to locate the lug, push the lug in then rotate the panel into position which seems to work better. I have a 2 channel set up on my GS which isn't an Innov but similar plus a hexezecan and found it easier when installing both to remove the seat brace entirely as it's only held in place by 8 Torx bolts. With that removed it's so much easier to route all the cables and make a neater job as you can hide a lot of them out of the way underneath leaving more space where the control unit has to go. I also mounted my rear camera on top of the rear light and routed the cable through where the rear light cables go which is a really nice neat fit. Cheers Ade

      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Dale. I was given the K3 by Innovv as they had had enough reviews on the K5 so I can’t honestly tell you. However here’s my ‘take at distance’. The K5 has the DVR built into the front camera which makes it difficult to site although the box is of course not under the seat or elsewhere. I think this means the front camera only is 4K although I can’t confirm that but expect the bit rate needed means the camera must be ‘close’ to the internal electronics to allow the higher bit rate. On 4K generally. I started using it but you need a high end machine to edit it in any reasonable time. I spent £3k on a machine suitable and even then I still record in 1080p and ‘upscale’ to 4K as I get 4K results without the editing overhead. I hate that job!! Also so very few viewers have equipment to play back 4K properly. It will come but maybe in 5+years??? That’s all I can give you but hope it helps? 👍🏻

      Stuart. Are you leaving it long enough?? The power supply has. 10-15 second delay in powering up and down. To test the DVR unit simply hold the yellow wire to the positive of the battery. Wait for it to power on and then remove the yellow and this way you’ll measure the period of power up and down. Next you will need to be sure you have the CanSmart circuit you are using as a ‘standard accessory’ circuit. (1A fuse should be enough) you do this through the CanSmart software. The GPS does not have to be upright. It just need to be as near clear sight to satellites as possible. That is not under a metal tank or buried deep in the bike somewhere. It is directional so should be mounted by the flat side not the curved one. Not sure what you mean by can’t access anything in iPhone but if you mean can’t connect the app you need first to go to your WiFi settings in the phone and connect to the INNOVV K3 xxxxx network. Then open app and you should be good (connecting to WiFi needs password which by default is 12345568). • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Martin. This is where it gets a little technical. If you have a multimeter you need to find a wire into something like the rear light that only has power when ignition on. Bit difficult to explain in a comment but you turn the multimeter to the 20v DC setting and then make sure the negative (black) wire from the multimeter is earthed. Then with the positive lead (red) from the multimeter, tough the cables in the rear light for example and with it held switch the ignition on and if you get a 13-14v reading that disappears when ignition is off then that’s the cable to ‘tap’ into. Sorry I can’t tell you more than that as I’ve never had to tap into the BMW loom so don’t know the colour. Maybe try googling as someone must have done it. Hope that helps some 👍🏻

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 8 měsíci

      @bramdrone the yellow wire is the switching wire. The power supply has power from the battery all the time but that only allows power to the DVR unit to switch everything on when the yellow wire receives a signal. This signal comes from the ignition. What you need to do is connect the yellow wire to something else that comes on with the ignition. E.g tail light, etc. likewise when the ignition goes off the yellow wire ceases to have a signal and the DVR switches off. Any lightweight electrical cable will do to connect to the motorcycle wiring and the yellow cable 👍🏻
