  • This is an abandoned water slide park and this was such an awesome explore! It was just one of those feel good explores. That is until I realized I wasn't alone in this park! Enjoy....Yes it is a lengthy explore but how else do you get to see everything?! So sit back, enjoy and maybe have a bowl of pop corn...

    Thanks Hunter, after doing some research, I found the history behind that park 120+ year old park to be really interesting yet really sad. You only explored a small part of the 700 acre mega park (the old SeaWorld side) The small water park that occupied a small portion of the mega park just closed recently - you can still see cars in the parking lots on Google Maps. The original park started on the other side of the lake where there may still be only an abandoned roller coaster left, if it hasn't been developed. If anyone's interested - you can lookup "5 Tragic Reasons Why the World's Largest Theme Park Stands Abandoned in Ohio". for it's history. Just think if SeaWorld bought the park, like it wanted too, it could have been still operating as Busch Gardens Ohio today instead of being Abandoned.

      Ive been researching the park in question for quite awhile... what ive come up with is that cedar fare purchased this park and its entities from six flags sometime in the early 2000s. Although ive been to the nearby park many times that is owned by the same said venue, what they did to this park was unethical and downright dirty. The ran the park for approximately 2 years until one day they just closed it for good. There was no warning, no monetary issues, it was just to much competition with its competitor across the lake. 100+ years of memories flushed down the toilet because of greed. I was never to this park, but while researching the parent park to this water park, I really wish I couldve experienced it. Probably better that I havent, I watched a very good video of it yesterday that probably would've made me cry if I were ever there. I will try and post a feed at the end of my comment.
      This was a great video hunter! Ive had it in my watch it later since you posted it, but havent had the time to watch it until now. Ironically, when I saved it, i was actually researching the parent park while i was camping at the campground of the competitors park! Anyway bro, where the HELL have you been?!? I miss your videos!!

    Sad to see the park that I worked at for 10 years of my life destroyed like that! Even though I don't condone the trespassing aspect, I still enjoyed your video very much. The portion of the park that you explored was known as Wildwater Kingdom previously SeaWorld Ohio. When you looked across the lake that was what was known as Geauga Lake later Six Flags Ohio and then Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. When Six Flags owned the property the park encompassed both sides of the lake as they bought out SeaWorld Ohio. Later when Cedar Fair purchased the property they shut down the animal side of the park and only operated as an amusement park. In 2005 Cedar Fair decided they would tear out or fence off all the old animal enclosures and make the park strictly a water park. The buildings you went into were the 4D theater where a pirate show was played through the SeaWorld days and then later a Lego 4D show was shown during Cedar Fair era. The other large building near that was the Shark Encounter building. It is very cool inside of there, but its pretty much an empty shell now as the owner of Schlitterban purchased all of the glass that held the water. The tall slide tower was called Thunder Falls(CedarFair era) and Hurricane Mountain(SixFlags era). The funnel slide was called Liquid Lightning. The area where the guy was skateboarding was where all those slides in the wave pool were located, it was known as Splash Landing. The octagon building was the old aquarium from SeaWorld. That rocky area was where you could touch the stingrays. Where Tidal Wave Bay (wave pool) was located that used to be a stadium where the sealion and otter show took place during SeaWorld days. The reason there were so many greenhouses was because of all the exotic flowers and plants that were spread out throughout the park from SeaWorld --> SixFlags --> Cear Fair. That building that had the animal cages at the end of the video was the pharmacy for the animals when it was SeaWorld/SixFlags. I was really sad watching the video because up until just last year the park was still operational. It's crazy to see how overgrown the park is from just a year of inactivity. Thanks for the video inside the park!!

      @ Ruth It's more complicated the park changed hands a lot in recent years and some of the theories involve the CEO of the last company buying it and then ultimately closing it to make less competition for another park despite this portion of the park being built after that company bought it.

    The building that said it was for Six Flags Zoological staff was SeaWorld's Shark Encounter. The movie theater was a 4D movie experience called "Pirates" that starred Eric Idle, Leslie Nielsen and Adam Wylie. The building where you walked around the deck outside was SeaWorld 's Aquarium. The rocky area outside was a Tide Pool exhibit. Finally, the rocky area near the end of the video was part of a seal and sea lion exhibit. Worked there for 8 summers and used to take my kids to the water park. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

    • @ExploringwithHunter
      @ExploringwithHunter  Před 7 lety

      +Kelly Rayle the shark encounter would have been awesome to see wht did it look like in there?!?!

    • @kellyrayle7392
      @kellyrayle7392 Před 7 lety

      It was a 315,000 gallon aquarium, basically. It was 100 feet long, 17 feet deep. The front part of the exhibit was a partial "tube" that had a moving sidewalk underneath so you could see the animals above you (it did not come all the way down on the other side). It housed 4 species of sharks, small toothed sawfish, eels and over 300 species of fish. It was pretty awesome.

    • @kellyrayle7392
      @kellyrayle7392 Před 7 lety

      The second set of doors you went to led into an area where a short movie about sharks was shown. When the movie ended, the doors would open for you to walk down to the moving sidewalk. You would ride that down the length of the exhibit and at the end of the walkway, you could step off to the left into a viewing area at the end of the exhibit. When done there, it was a short walk to get out of the building and you would actually exit through the first set of doors that you went to. When I went there with friends, we used to sneak in those exit doors to skip the line and the movie!

      Hi Corinne. In case you didn't see some of the previous comments, this waterpark is on property that actually used to be Sea World of Ohio. The area across the lake used to be an amusement park called Geauga Lake. Sadly, a lot of the area is probably going to become retail but they are hoping to have it be mixed use. Unfortunately, the company that owns the land are being difficult and parts of the land have sat abandoned for years already. Part of it is currently being cleared for a car dealership. :(

      Hi Kelly thanks for your input, but being a nosey brit I had to Google, I realise that Sea World had gone & the amusement park went decades before, but what you have told me saddens me even more - I bet it is the Waterpark that is first flattened - even though up to its closing date it was well loved!!! Apparently even the general manager did not know...there were several employees that have worked there since it was sea world nearly 40 years..and after the closing last year the one of those employees passed away...Cedar Point is a very uncaring corporation..this empty park is disgusting. if only a non sociopathic billionaire would come in and redo it all!!

    It is so sad that I was there last August and it looks kind of trashed already.😢. They (Cedar Fair) decided to close Wildwater Kingdom last Labor Day. I follow many groups that want to save that area because we also used to go to Geauga Lake Amusement park, across the way. Where you were exploring used to be SeaWorld of Ohio, believe it or not. That weird coral area in the back was where they had divers getting pearls. And closer to your way out on the front was a locker storage area and I see they already ripped them all out. ..heartbreaking. That area was forgotten by corporate greed. And, furthermore continues to be a political debate between two cities, rather than a preserved, important landmark, as it should be. The history is absolutely extraordinary.

      Actually carp is pretty good! You have to gut it carefully to not hit an oil gland, so the meat isn't oily .but it's not bad! Better than tilapia!

    say to yourself ok. The water slides totally empty and you,re alone. Than suddenly there,s a eerie feeling that you,re being watched. Than again. Who,s to say what really happened?

    I prefer getting a filmmaker's original vision, not a cut-down version. So I think you should continue to do your videos the way you are because they flow quite naturally.
    Not sure what everyone's complaining about, anyway. The video is only an hour long; that's the same length as a television show and people watch THOSE... 😜

    You need to go back! There is a lot more still back past where you stopped to go back to the gates. There are also trails that go up the hill behind the wave pool and back down the other side and there are bldgs there too, or at least there were. If you look closely you can see small bldg at the top of the wave pool behind the painted one, it was a bathroom. There was a whole stadium up in those woods and a trout fishing pond. And beyond the aquarium you went thru, a whole section of bldgs I'd LOVE to see from when it was Sea World. If I didn't live 1100 miles away I'd go with you ha!

      Exploring with Hunter I worked in the park when it was Sea World for over 10 yrs. and have friends who were there the last day the water park was there last summer who helped clear it out so I know what's still standing beyond the tree line by the wave pool and aquarium.

      Exploring with Hunter if you had kept walking down past the wave pool and aquarium you ended with there is a set of bldgs, a large bathroom and the seaport village area the pearl divers were in. I believe the penguin encounter was torn down when they destroyed shamu stadium however.

      You can find old Sea World Ohio park maps online. The wave pool was where the sea lion stadium was. If you had gone past there, you would have found the site of the old Shamu stadium.

      It's part of a larger parcel of land owned by Cedar Fair. The amusement portion of the park that used to be across the lake has been closed since 2007. One popular theory is that the former CEO of Cedar Fair wanted the park closed to have less competition for Cedar Point which is also owned by Cedar Fair. Others believe that when Six Flags owned the park they over developed it for the market and it was no longer profitable. The water park itself only closed last September when cedar Fair started splitting off parcels of land to sell to developers.

Well lets keep going with Olly Owl and Freddy Frog and see who else Hunter brings along , lol that's it unless you can find "Far Away" Joe @19:02 .
